    #MEGA MAKE EUROPE GREAT AGAIN

So far you’ve accused me of being paranoid, having a self loathing Irish psyche, and “being a certain demographic” - can’t wait what you’ll do next.

Is it possible to think the Biden visit to Ireland also has another agenda? ( Other than strengthening the ties between the US in Ireland, possible economic investment in Ireland as well as a personal reason, his ancestry )

Around 40 million citizens in the US have Irish ancestry.

He might consider his visit to Ireland to show that he cares for Ireland, and hope he gets more votes for the next election in the US?

40 million is quite a lot, to turn the presidential election in his favour.

Not that I am against Biden, but just curious if I am the only one thinking about this possibility.

Of course it's probably part of the reason why he is here, it's the same for all previous visits by sitting presidents. All the same it's far from being the only reason he is here.

    That's all true.

May the Irish - US friendship last a long time.

You're right. I'll stick to what you called yourself, a cynic.

Of course theres multiple angles to his visit. You dont need to be Nostradamus to come to that conclusion.

But very high on the list is his genuine love of Ireland and his irish ancestry.

In fairness, he has maxed out his Irish pull either way in America, the only "Irish" not voting for Biden are hardcore republicans I would imagine and even if God descended from heaven and anointed Biden his second son, they still wouldn't vote for him.

I think it's safe to say his love of Ireland is genuine.

It’s 19 months or so until the next election. A lot will happen between now and then. I don’t really see how this visit will have much bearing on the election amongst Irish Americans come then especially with how polarised politics is there, vast majority already have their minds made up. It might help a bit but if he really wanted to maximise any effect he’d visit a lot sooner to the election than now.

There is a genuine attachment to Ireland with Biden. If he was just here for the election photo-op, it would have been a flying visit on the way back from somewhere more important. Instead he's been here for almost 4 days, and ones filled with engagements.

While of course there is election strategization going on along with alliance building for a likely second run, that appears to be one aspect of the visit and not a major one at that. It's likely he'd have visited sooner but for covid, where the election really wouldn't come into it at all.

You make some good points which modern Ireland hasn't really thought through. We could be actually witnessing one of the final episodes of what we've grown to take for granted, Irish America.

RTE still playing out the line that Ireland is so important re global politics because Secretary of State Blinken has turned up as well. Come on. This is an elderly man on a retirement trip. Yes, he may stand again, but let's not get ahead of ourselves.

That said, Biden's folksy charm and Ireland lapping it up, go hand in hand. We always give great welcomes, whether its POTUS, Queen or Pope. While it may look tacky, the visitors go home loving it, and tourism will always be one of our selling points

Yeah anyone thinking it's the yanks taking advantage of us Mick's is completely wrong imo.

We may play up like we're the fan boys but the reality is we're a bunch of cute hoors looking to turn the Yankee tourist upside down and shake out all their mighty dollars

Here’s the moment “clearly not there” trapped 265+ congressional Republicans into giving ‘President Clearly Not There’ a complete political victory even when ‘President CNT’ was caught off guard by their interruption and rancor to a prepared ceremonial speech

They’re clearly not there to let Joe Biden pwn them like that.

But then again their party is a big ballsack of cnts

Meanwhile Trump still brags about how well he did on his dementia test. Near as I can tell still fully believing that doing "well" on a diagnostic test for cognitive impairment means that he has "proof" that he is a genius. Of course all a "perfect" score on the test means is that he probably doesn't have the type of cognitive impairment that the exam tests for. The fact that he considers being able to remember 5 words in the order they were told to him for several minutes to be an amazing feat says a lot about his mental state.

Once again, people come in here and play the same stupid cards that Biden isn't all there.

Republicans haven't a breeze how to handle him, because they're too busy tying themselves in knots trying to one-up him that it backfires spectacularly all the time.

Remember when we were told that he wouldn't be able to handle Trump in the debates? Biden is the most politely vicious attack dog in US politics by a country mile. Many Republicans have come at him and they've all spectacularly failed every time.

Then when Trump hinted he was going to run again coming up to the mid-terms, Biden hammered that home, and the GOP had absolutely nothing in response.

The result? Democrats extending their Senate majority and Republicans eating themselves alive trying to nominate a Speaker.

All because they can't lay a glove on Biden. That's why they're going towards this culture war bollocks even though American's couldn't give a rats about it.

i thought the plane that carries the president automatically gets named air force one for identity purposes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 86,683 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

Or Marine one etc it depends on the branch operating the vehicle.

He may have passed his dementia test but how did he do when he was tested for the crabs! Remember this is the genuis who had to pay 130k hush money to a porn stars for the ride and still ended up in court because of it!

Air Force One is used to refer to any US Air Force plane that the President is currently on. If the President is on a US Marine aircraft (generally a helicopter) that craft is designated Marine One while the President is on board. Colloquially Air Force One is used to describe the Air Force aircraft that have been specially equipped for transporting the President. I have no idea what FarmerBrowne is on about.

I don't even want to speculate about his sexual health. A number of people have noted that a lot of his behavior could easily be explained by neurosyphilis.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,327 ✭✭✭realdanbreen

Would that also explain his juvenile "grab em by the pussy " remarks?

I see that the dreadful Paul Murphy TD is nauseated by the Biden visit.

Predictably, RTE give loads of space to an extreme leftist. Murphy joins Moscow Mick and Commie Clare in the grotesque clown show that is the far left in Ireland.

Looking forward to the knuckle-draggers trying to say that this makes him weak or whatever.

I'd be steadfast in my opposition to Paul Murphy TD, but I don't see any problem with RTE giving him a platform to air his views on the matter. He has, after all been elected by the people in his constituency. It seems a reasonable balance that he is given some air-time as there are doubtless some people opposed to the visit (split somewhat between our pro-Trump supporters on this thread, and those left-wingers opposed to American imperialism).

It seems a perfect case of 'dont agree with your views but defend your right to air them'. (I'm just glad he boycotted yesterday, rather than staging an interruption).

Biden must be only one of a few heads of state who doesn't do press conferences. Everything is pre planned, pre approved and rehearsed.

He is kept on a short leash lest he go and say the wrong thing or ramble on with no point or end.

He's had his day. No good
