No. Dias was signed as Kompanys belated replacement. Im talking about being displaced this season, before this season he has been a pivotal part of the team. He was injured at start of season, apparently wanted to leave and has been replaced short term by akanji who has earned his place.

I was talking about the 19/20 season, you corrected me. I said City had an injury and went out the following summer, spent big to get top quality backup and you said I was wrong - you said they signed Akanji, they signed Dias.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,350 ✭✭✭POKERKING

Why you talking about 4 years ago? U made it sound like city went out this year when laporte was injured and just replaced him with a mega money signing. His place in the team currently is been taken by akjanji and at a push ake given the new system there playing.

And for the record, kompany retired unexpectedly and city werent prepared to go to market that summer so chanced going with three centre backs + fernandinho. It back fired because laporte missed the majority of the season with injury and city were left short. They then replaced kompany finally the following summer with Dias to bring them back up to 4 centre backs pushing fernandinho into midfield again.

trossard was some pickup for arsenal. 20m + 7 in addons, presumably if they win the league. 11 league games (including today), 1 goal and 7 assists

Ah lads Michael Oliver fails to see the Brentford defender doing a Superman save with his hand. Absolutely appalling referee.

VAR does his job for him.

Simon Harris is monitoring the situation...

I know exactly what happened, now you do.

I was making the point about how City refreshed when they had an issue - more able to do it than anyone else. Liverpool needed to do that over the last 2 years with their team but didn’t do it successfully. Not competing on the same financial level as City.

It would be crazy to get rid of Klopp after all he has done BUT there may be a bit of merit to the idea.

The fact that issues that had already been noted and were being exploited by teams in October are STILL the same issues present and exploited in April is insane.

His stubborness has probably been one of their biggest issues this year.

I remember a fair few United fans wanted rid of SAF in mid 00s when we were struggling. I’m just an old fart, I find the “get rid of manager” bandwagons quite shallow and a really pathetic, now cultural, part of the sport.

Somebody mentioned Ranieri being sacked a few months after winning the league. That shouldn’t be an example of what should happen, it’s just an example of how ludicrous the sport is. Happened multiple Chelsea mangers aswell.

I think part of the issue is player power, it’s just swung too much in their favour and unless you have a Ferguson in charge or the moneybags clubs that Pep manages (who will just discard expensive signings not working out), it’s always the manager who will be taking the fall. It’s not that managers weren’t sacked in the past it’s that the length of time managers get has shortened significantly.

I know people will say the money side and pressure clubs are under is also a factor but there’s really no meaningful consequence for players for under performing. I wish there was salary caps at the top level and everything else had to be player performance level bonuses. That might encourage some of the softer lads who “need to be happy and feel wanted” to do their f**king job, show the fans some respect and work hard to play well regardless.

Palace with 31 shots and 9 on target.

That's surely more that January to March combined 🤣

has potter started the same 11 yet? if todays score remains he'll be under fierce pressure.

and with conte (a master of the back 5) and nagelsman recently on the market they might move him on.

but its the owners who landed him with a squad of like 35 players. cant believe they didn't sign the contract to sell ziyech to PSG while he was over there.

Was just going to post about this. Was he trying to goad the opposition players into a reaction or was he mocking them after their team just conceded? Only he will know.

For all the money Man City have spent, they haven't bought any class. It starts with their manager and carried through the club. Pep even doubled down on his antics after the game with very sarcastic replies to the questions.

Off the pitch, Man City fans yet again had very audible chants mocking a stadium disaster. After the club had previously asked them to stop chanting about it.

At least this time, the club actually acknowledged that it happened and issued an apology hidden away somewhere but it's not available on twitter feed for the masses to see.

When the same chants happened in the return fixture, Man City as a club refused to issue a public apology.

A week later, Pep did come out with an uber-sarcastic reply of apology like the one above, saying he was "so sorry" that it happened. He claimed he never heard them, even though he was in the stadium and it was clearly audible for everyone else. No apology of any sort from the club themselves in the public domain. It's like they want their fans to continue to mock stadium disaster where fans lost their lives.

Pep also had to apologise to Steven Gerrard for trying to belittle him in response to the charges of financial cheating by Man City.

Man City have apologised for their fans throwing a brick at the Liverpool team bus. They've put in a bit of an apology for the chanting now too.

Pep is clearly under a lot of pressure. He cannot handle pressure and we will continue to see ridiculous behaviour from him, this season in particular as coming second and not winning the CL is a distinct possibility.

As for the chants and the managers/ clubs response, well, I'm not surprised.

If Jose Mourihno did that , there would be riots and the FA would probably react by giving him a 10 game touchline ban. Teflon media Darling pep as always can do no wrong.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,306 ✭✭✭✭Drumpot

Arteta literally encroaching on the pitch and putting off opposing players is really annoying but I really hope arsenal win.

The majority of folk want Arsenal to win.

    Equally Napoli I would say.

Ah poor old Liverpool just the 120 odd million spent on 2 attacking players this season

Pep was out of order today no question.

However, Klopp is no paragon of virtue when it comes to touchline antics either.

There is bad blood between the fans of both clubs and they are as bad as each other.

He'll never get sacked from that job, he might jack it in but he's as bullet proof as any manager in the world has ever been.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 258 ✭✭It is a Dunne Deal

Chelsea all over Villa but somehow are 2 down at home surely patience with Potter is wearing thin?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,142 ✭✭✭tombliboo83

Dire stuff again today. A lot of square pegs in round holes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 715 ✭✭✭Mac_Lad71

Super stuff from Villa again under Umai Emery.

Potter under massive pressure ahead of Liverpool on Tuesday night.

Chelsea are a mess from top to bottom.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,676 ✭✭✭doc_17

Mudryk looks a waste of money.

Liverpool bus hit by a brick? Silly behaviour and should be called out when it happens, that Liverpool idiot who threw the brick at the City bus - wonder what he’s thinking now. Some morons going to these games in fairness.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,328 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

We are all so so lucky that he chooses to share his immense genius with us. Let's not do anything to upset him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,753 ✭✭✭✭castletownman

I've said it before, but amid all of Chelsea's newcomers, I find it strange that Loftus Cheek seems to be a regular. Total meh player. And what has happened to Mount that he isn't even among the first five subs? At least you know he'll press all day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,952 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

Mount is refusing to sign the 7 year contract they've offered him so you'd imagine it's something to do with that.

Let's hope so. Being compared to the greatest manager in the league of the last decade or so is a massive compliment.
