He'd have been due around £4 million is straight up sacked, so i guess he got a bit less then that for the mutual termination thing.

At least that's how Football Manager works 🤣

Reports suggest Conte had a year extension available to him, so he would've had to have been bought out of that too I'd imagine.

Ever since the Qatari group submitted the first bid for United, we've been hearing things like the future success will be tainted, the club will be no different to City/Chelsea buying success though a "Sugar Daddy" owner, etc. But for everyone who is already writing off and diminishing any future success MUFC have (if they get taken over by the Sheikh), lets say the Sheikh just clears the current United debt meaning no yearly loan repayments, reduces the yearly dividend payouts and just uses the revenue generated by the club to fund transfers, will people still claim United's possible success is "hollow and tainted", akin to Man City's success?

We've seen in the past 10 years that United were able to spend more than most clubs on transfers (they just spent it badly), and that was with massive loans repayments and paying out more dividends than any other club. Remove those 2 barriers and you'd have to imagine MUFC would have even bigger transfer budgets to spend, that could rival the spending of any other club in the world.

They stlll have to buy the right players though.

I think, if City are found guilty of and punished for financial misdeeds, then probably not. It could even be that those two factors - a takeover and City being hauled over the coals - could see the club return to power. As long as the FA stay on top of 'sugar Daddy' spending rules and take a zero-tolerance stance over transgressors.

If they don't, then Premier League football will be tainted, full stop.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

You are correct, funny thing is that United succeeded with money it made in the 90s and 00s and people just amended the argument to “United bought succeed”. That was the big sin back then, just being a big club that made money and spent that money on your squad was thrown at you.

United were still able to compete and succeed (under SAF) with the awful glazers tieing one hand behind our backs. Saddling the club with debt, taking out dividends, spending poorly and allowing the stadium to fall apart. You think of spurs debt, they got a world class stadium for their money, imagine they got a new owner who didn’t build a stadium but saddled the same debt on the club! I really don’t think people realise what those yanks did when they leveraged the club.

Now that you literally have these billionaires coming in and buying instant success People can see that United built success and spent well building up the club’s infrastructure. They earned that success. City and Chelsea are completely different ways of getting success , even if they result in the same outcome. For such a simple concept I find it funny that some people can’t understand it.

So yeh, you are right, it’s not completely the same because uniteds success story won’t start as soon as these billionaires take over. But it will leave a bitter taste. F**k the EPL for allowing it, they’ve destroyed the soul of the game for money regardless of what happens to United.

I think the biggest shift is just in everyone's perception of what the club is, and will exist to be. It'll go from being a football club first and foremost, to being a cynical propaganda tool first, and football club distant second.

I still really hope it doesn't happen though - Man Utd are one of the pillars of European football, so would be such a huge blow to the 'idea' of what football is, and is for. As the first big club to make this shift, I think it'd be a landmark moment on footballs path to seemingly inevitable implosion.

I'll repeat here what I said in the United thread a week or 2 back. Regardless of whether the Qataris were to put in 0, £1, or £100,000,000,000, their stink will be attached to any and all achievements from that date.

It's as clear as day a well run United does not need a sugar daddy. Look how different the team looks with a competent manager in charge for less than a year. The bulk of the players were there before ETH was. We don't even need to have the debt cleared. Get it restructured and use the dividends the Glazers were taking and add them to the already existing servicing payments. It could be cleared off in 10 to 15 years while still being able to spend when needed.

A Qatar funded take over will lead to United becoming an opportunity to promote things Qatar and the source of the clubs income will change.

If Man City have income that is not viewed as credible by many then just look at PSG, who show commercial income above all Premier League teams - including City.

PSG current sponsors include Qatar Airways, Ooredoo and used to include the not fishy at all Qatar Tourism Authority sponsorship.

“Roman Abramovich secretly bankrolled Dutch football club, leaked documents suggest”.

Those loan deals including Matic, Solanke, Mount, Broja, and 25 others, moving to Vitesse makes sense now.

Just because they are not owned by Arab princes does not mean Real and Barca don't have serious question marks too. Were they not supposed to be bankrupt ?

I thought this was well known already ? Wasn't there a season where it looked like Vitesse were going to make CL thus shining a light on this dual ownership and by some strange coincidence they lost their last few games and just missed out?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,307 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

I thought that was a Russian club.

Chelsea definitely had some sort of arrangements with Vitesse.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,869 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

I just thought that it was an official partnership tbh, with players going on loan to Vitesse with Chelsea having first option on Vitesse players. I didn't realise Roman was actually funding the club too. Perhaps hiding some wages on the accounts too, possibly. Vitesse eating up some wages for Chelsea players but effectively coming from the same pockets but showing on a different club accounts.

The Brighton Irish connection might keep on continuing.

They're taking a young lad from Galway over on trial for the week, continuing in the same path as Aaron Connolly, in terms of clubs at least.

Big game coming up at 12.30 can Liverpool do themselves and Arsenal a huge favour?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 258 ✭✭It is a Dunne Deal

Haaland out with a groin injury

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,674 ✭✭✭doc_17

No Haaland for City. Alvarez is too good be just Haaland’s stand in. The wealth of the top cubs allows them to stockpile players like this, not great for the game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 258 ✭✭It is a Dunne Deal

It has always been thus Man Utd used to have Yorke Cole Sheringham and Solskjaer in the same squad. Liverpool currently have Diaz Firmino Salah Gakpo Jota Nunez competing for 3 spots etc.

Stop talking sense, this is a new thing that only city and those awful people who own them do…..

Yeah its not like city sold Sterling and Jesus in the summer for a combined 100mil or so and replaced them with a 15mil(not sure) gamble on Alvarez.
