There were a lot of little clips and "funny" bits that we probably all see through other media now. Stuff like some ref in the Brazilian 7th tier give a guy an uppercut or something.

Other better sources of humour came along too like Guardian Football Weekly or Crouch's podcast and probably a million others I don't know about. Matt Lucas & Ellis James have a similar "lads on a couch show" now but it's a bit too "bantz" for me and the forced bantz bits were never funny on Soccer AM either.

Nagelsmann to be Spurs manager next season......

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,248 ✭✭✭mobydopy

Would love to see him in the Prem one day but I don't know if Spurs is the right fit for him. In fact I don't see why any top level manager would want that Spurs job under their current owners.

I've never been able to warm to Nagelsmann... fella seems to absolutely love himself. He's obviously talented, but he really seems to see himself as the star, rather than the team. That sort of attitude will be tolerated at smaller clubs, but a bigger club with a big history (like Bayern), it's always gonna grate.

The banter on it used to be unreal, I watched it all the time when Lovejoy was on it. None of it would fly today.

He is actually quite sound. We ran a campaign on social media during covid about what value sports brought to that person and how they live through sport and he gave us his time.

Ironically, it went downhill AFTER the soccerettes and dance-off segments were binned.

Loved Soccer AM back in the early 2000's. Was playing football back then of a Saturday and the whole team would have tuned into it before we met for the match and talked about that mornings episode.

Hopefully. Their Covid related loss claims were ridiculous.

At least Everton were honest in their dealings unlike another team that plays in blue.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,155 ✭✭✭✭eh i dunno

Chelsea spend 600m in 6 months and it's Everton in trouble. Won't even mention Man city. Gotta protect the big 6

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,689 ✭✭✭giveitholly

If Everton did wrong then they did wrong. No point looking over the garden fence complaining about your neighbours.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,308 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

    Well there is.

We would all be pssed about hypocrisy if they were after our team.

    I've certainly been there.

I mean, we know exactly how Chelsea managed that. Like, we know the route they've taken, which puts hefty limitations on their spending in the medium-to-longer term. Their move is a huge gamble, rather than anything particularly clever.

And Man City are currently further down the path to sanctions than Everton are - we can only hope City actually have to deal with the repercussions of their own shenanigans.

For one thing, we don't know for sure how Chelsea did it, we know what they are saying they did, but I for one would suspect there is more to the movement of money through CFC than meets the eye. Secondly, isn't the whole idea behind FFP supposed to be about preventing clubs from gambling and betting away their future, to be more sustainable in the financial sense? One could hardly describe Chelsea's actions as anything but reckless and risky in the long term.

I'm not familiar with Everton and what they are accused of, but the defence of 'oh but look at them over there' shouldn't wash really.

I see Sheikh Jassim has now submitted a second bid for Man United. Considering the resources he has it’s hard to see how he doesn’t end up with the winning bid for United. Even as a non United supporter, it’ll be such a shame to see this huge club become nothing more than a billionaire’s play thing, with him most likely throwing hundreds of million into transfers every year. Every success United have while under the the Sheikh’s ownership will be as hollow and as tainted as the successes we’ve seen Man City have.

Regardless of what these Billionaires put in to buy the clubs and the ever increasing transfer fees they sanction for players, it only makes things more expensive for fans. It's getting harder to justify the outlay for the relatively poor competition on show. Once it's City, Newcastle, Utd and then a long way back to the rest, who is going to justify €150-200 a month for Sky sports + BT sports +whatever other platform the games are split across or worse still £150+ for a single match day ticket.

    Mutual consent apparently

nice bag of cash for himself I’d say

    The internet isn’t for everyone

Won't have gotten too much i'd imagine (comparatively). The fact that Stellini (Conte's right hand man) is staying till the end of the season would suggest Conte was quite happy to just remain in Italy, while leaving the existing coaching staff there.

Gives Levy some time to think about the replacement, find the right candidate, then **** it up and hire someone totally unsuitable 🤣

They'll probably get nagelsmann, and completely destroy him.

Not surprised. He doesn't stay in jobs for long, and has seemed very unhappy at Spurs recently.

Spurs get some decent managers but yeah, it doesn't work.

One solitary league cup in the past 21 years speaks volumes.

Also, why would he go to Spurs. Massive step down and surely better jobs for him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,308 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

He just seems unhappy in general and I'm talking long before the horrible personal year he just had.

These hissy fits have always been part of his managerial career.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 23,562 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kiith

He would be perfect for us. Young manager that plays exciting football, bring him in for a rebuild, give him time and money (come on Levy...open that chequebook!). So we'll likely **** it up and sign another defensive manager past him prime.

His stock will have fallen a bit after Bayern, but it would still be a bit of a step down. Not many other jobs that are bigger available though, bar if Real get rid of Ancellotti at the end of the season. Chelsea will likely sack Potter and try to sign him as well though.

He's also got some links with Spurs from Poch's time apparently.

"His stock will have fallen a bit after Bayern".

He left them 2nd in the league, through to the last 8 in both their domestic and European cup competitions. I'd say Spurs biggest issue would be stumping up €8m a year, because he's getting paid that until he finds a new club. Me, I'd retire!

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 23,562 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kiith

2nd in Germany isn't exactly an achievement for Bayern. Not saying he did a bad job, they've been excellent in the CL, but he won't have come out of that role any higher in manager standings i'd imagine. And we paid Conte £15 million a year, so that shouldn't be an issue.

Imagine 8m a year to sit on your hole...glorious.

I'd imagine he'd have come back and kept calling out the players/boardroom to his hearts content UNLESS he got a very decent chunk of what was due to him.
