In another statement, Lord Coe has said Russian athletes will remain barred from track and field “for the foreseeable future” because of the country’s invasion of Ukraine.

If it was for a state sponsored doping program, I'd agree. But that's probably for another thread

Triumph for bottoms-up common sense. Can't wait to see the reaction from those Media Studies students - funded by international money and aggressively supported by our govmt - explaining how this is a sad "backward step" LOL!!

If approved, teachers will be prohibited from "intentionally" teaching topics related to "sexual orientation or gender identity" to students from the fourth grade (fourth class) through to their final year of high school.

    Yeah, that's utterly dreadful.

There are those arguing in bad faith all over the shop on this issue, and this most definitely falls in that zone.

    Misinformation.

State Rep. Adam Anderson filed a measure last week that would expand the law by prohibiting classroom instruction on sexual orientation or gender identity in prekindergarten through eighth grade. And if such instruction is provided in grades nine through 12, it “must be age-appropriate or developmentally appropriate for students in accordance with state standards.”

Grade 8 is age 13 -14. RTE claim there is an outright ban all the way through to final year of high school. That's false. The bill is here , you can read it for yourself.

A very welcome decision, signs of a corner being turned. When this lunacy ends I wonder what will become of those who turned Vichy (so to speak) and denounced the likes of Coe and Davies out of fear?

Momentum and the wider narrative counts for a lot in this battle ground. Afterall it was the copious amounts of feelings and misguided kindness that drove the media and NGO types to bully us to where we are now.

Therefore it's heartening to note that this decision follows similar decisions from world rugby and world swimming recently.

On to the other sporting organisations now. Tbh it's an awful vista that little girls would be growing up and expected to participate in adult contact sports where there's essentially biological men, having benefitted from the physical advantages that that brings, togged out in the same gear, crashing into them. It's just not fair not to mind it's dangerous. This is not written as a slight against those trans people who want to participate in the sports, rather an opinion on the physical facts and reality of what young women would be exposed to at a time where we are trying our best to keep girls and women in sports

The hilarious exchange on the previous page where a poster thought they'd scored a slam dunk disproving any difference between men and women with the story about a 10 year old girls' basketball team just reinforces my belief that the most fervent advocates for trans women in sport have had little to no interaction with sport in their entire lives.

Secondly, where trans women are allowed compete in female categories, a common defence is "Well, those are the rules, so tough" or "The governing body knows better than you". It'll be interesting those same people now turn around and say the rules are wrong and that they know better than the governing body.

this is a good way to lean into stupid rules

I still think the title of this thread is misleading.

All the heated comments in this thread seemed to be about the participation of trans women in female sports.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,852 ✭✭✭✭BattleCorp

Are you more concerned with the thread title than you are with biological men identifying as women and entering women's sports?

The common view here is that transwomen shouldn't be allowed to enter women's sports due to the advantages male puberty gives them.

You are indeed correct that the title should say Transgender woman but on the scale of things, hardly worth getting worked up over.

The OP was about a trans man (biological woman) winning a woman's race, original poster knew what they were doing though, fair play to them...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 706 ✭✭✭mjsc1970

The original thread title was about a trans man winning a women's race. So what I'd say. What's news about that.

The thread went off piste and people got entrenched with transwomen in women's sports and that rabbit hole and all the heat around that. Which is the opposite of the thread title which is not even a talking point one way or the other.

And to answer your question. No, I don't think there's a place for transwomen in most women's sports, elite or otherwise, unless it's a sport where physicality is not a major factor.

What you might actually have to talk to trans people to understand them?

are you agreeing with the proposal? being "pistol whipped" by trans activists isnt talking to anybody

Pistol whipped in air quotes 🤣

Really watering down the argument there if you’re equating sensitivity training with violence

on a thread about children being shot up at a school. Wow.

sensitivity training is biased propaganda , why assume fair/good motives?. Im sure a lot of trans people think the trans athletes are being d1cks so I dont see why parents need to be "educated"

    Biased propaganda 🤣

    ”pistol whipped”

Youre doing more for the trans movement right now than the anti trans movement.

I dont get you , there are trans people with all kinds of opinions , there are trans activists with extreme opinions, the latter would find their way into anything involving "sensitivity training" why should parents think there is anything to discuss?. At the end of the day nobody wants their daughters to lose or be chinned by biological males

they are though, you’re peddling a conspiracy theory that violent radical transgender activists are secretly infiltrating sensitivity training classes to pistol whip people for the transgender movement. Utterly clowning.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,854 ✭✭✭✭silverharp

Its a working assumption given age we live in, if you were to look the these people are you suggesting there would be a mixture of conservatives, religious people, just a normal cross section of people? doubtful and regardless what is there to talk about about? the exercise would just be to bully the parents and if they dont accept trans athletes competing with their girls they are bigots and the parents are the problem. why arent trans athletes offered sensitivity training to desist from attempting to making girls uncomfortable?

thanks for giving me a laugh , I didnt think someone would try to sell me sensitivity training for biological males playing sports against my daughter as being something legitimate. I'd almost give it a go for the lols

I didn't think someone would tell me sensitivity training would be infiltrated by a clandestine group of violent trans persons with pistols.
