Up in the air at the minute, alot of stuff has to fall in line but I will give it a shot.

    It's a fantastic watch.

Worked myself into a state over the Polar scouring the web and looking at every review, video and picture and in the end I just had to have it. So yay, I have an 'incoming'. 2003 w full kit in lovely condition and I'm a bit giddy now and delighted I didnt talk myself out of it.

Will probably move the AT on over time just to keep things small & tidy.

    Well wear.

Did you manage to negotiate anything off the “asking” price?

Sweet, well wear, it's a super watch. Have a look at Oisin's video about it there, he sings its praises. And rightly so.

Give us more details, where bought, full set, what price landed if you don't mind me asking?

I tried but wouldn't budge. On the upside it was the cheapest full kit and age & condition was in a way that I couldn't explain why it was the cheapest. With the sources I have access to I don't think I would have gotten it any cheaper. I could have gotten one probably 1k cheaper with no kit but for me this is the biggest/maddest purchase ever and considering that I wanted to play it as safe as it gets if that makes any sense.

A bit enigmatic that. Couple hundred more than my rule of "cheapest in EU on C24 minus a few hundred", or are you comparing to what I was asking for my "SWISS" only?

Sorry, don't mean to be rude and ask personal questions, but this sort of stuff can be really helpful for people buying their first Rolex.

When are you expecting the watch? Have you tried one on before? Or any steel sport Rolex? And out of interest, what is your wrist size?

No offence taken in any case. I know I'm being irrational but for a couple of reasons I don't like posting hard numbers on a public board; There are people on boards who know me IRL. But you mentioned a number not so long ago for your SWISS only and I paid a couple of hundred more than that.

I'd say it will be here within the week and I have never tried a Rolex on in my life. But I've had and still have an Omega steel watch (AT) and I think (hope) I have an idea. If it came to the worst which I hope not I have a money back/return period with chrono.

I have a 7" inch wrist when I measure tightly, maybe 7 and a quarter after Christmas and I really don't like > 40mm watches and couldn't imagine wearing anything bigger. While it's at my upper limit at 40 in pics and videos this watch doesn't seem to wear big and looks very sleek and refined and I just fell in love with the look of it. I guess I'm taking a chance but like I said if it came to the worst I'll loose two shopping fees which isn't great but not the end of the world.

Thinking of going for a diver around 1k or below.

Already have a steinhart so looking now at a s/h longines hydroconquest in black.

Its got the brand heritage and seems to be regarded as the best diver at that price point?

    Any others worth considering?

Seiko spb14x range worth looking at in that price range as well

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 2,957 ✭✭✭scwazrh

I would choose Oris over longines all day .Much nicer on the wrist and the integrated rubber or bracelet is miles ahead of the longines comparison .

Better brand imo as well ,Longines are put in their price point and have to work within its restrictions by Swatch group where as Oris are still independent and growing strongly.

I order a SRPE37K1 yesterday for exactly half your budget. I like the Prospex shape.

So, tried on the longines but it's not for me.

Didn't like the polished links and a couple of other details on the watch.

Looking towards a Willard SPB151 now.

Nice, but grossly overpriced at 1300 euro?

Longines looks great in pics but I didn’t like it on wrist.

Agree the Willard seems overpriced. It’s not worth twice the price of a king turtle .

If your looking for a Willard have a look at some of the German or Spanish sites. You'll easily save yourself €300.

Although I personally reckon the Seiko SPB143 is a much higher quality finish, it might be worth a look too.

Any link to a german site for the willard?

I've found a couple, but all prices are the same as here (1300/1400)

I'll be in Berlin in June if there's any bricks and mortar dealers there.

€1,033 from here with DU-2023 for 10%off. Sign up to their newsletter, their codes only last a few days and are usually only 5% off though they do seem to be offering 10% more often at the moment. I'm with Cassius though and think the Willard is poor value, I'm looking around that price point at the moment and have tried on most Seiko's around that mark recently. To be honest despite the better movement and slightly better bracelet I'd prefer a Turtle for less than half the price.

Did try this one and prefer it to the Willard.

If I can find a good deal I'll be very tempted by a 1965 SPB297J1. I've seen it and the 68MAS Glacier Save the Ocean. Preferred the 68 in the pics but in the flesh the 65 is better. Feel like I'm taking the thread off topic, it's for buying and selling between forum users really.

I'll be putting my Solas Starlight up on Adverts at some stage as I have to make room for another watch. I'll be asking €450 for watch and extra horween strap but obviously better deal for someone from around here if there's any interest.

So, you're selling your AP Royal Oak chrono for a mere snip at €75k and the first offer you get in a week or more on 10/03/2023 is from...

    nM4v0J[1].jpg

    Ahahahahahahhahahahaha... etc.

    F*ck no.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 6,542 ✭✭✭CalamariFritti

Fk. How do you even pay for that?

Can one do an IBAN payment for 75k just like that? My bank gets palpations (and I get a phone call) every time I spend more than 2k on something. Which isnt' very often and maybe thats why, but still.
