The issue with all this is - imagine how this all sounds like to a Claire Byrne listener who knows nothing about EVs.

    The listener is thinking

"god these EVs sound unworkable and totally 10 years time technology".

How do they choose who to talk to as an expert.

I mean there's an EV Owners association - would you not if RTE - talk to them for example.

Lol, just realised I've been blocked by our favourite spoofer on twitter for pointing out his dual phase electricity nonsense.

It seems like a load more shite is allowed to fly in the post Sean O'R days. She had another "expert" on recently spouting crap that science has debunked for 15-20 years.

100% he is a BS merchant. Blocked me when I pointed out to him about our night rate tariffs while he himself was slagging another poster that the costs he was stating were incorrect. He strikes me as an arrogant his way or no way type of fella. His following is a bunch of teenagers asking questions about theory tests, insurance for exhausts of IS200’s etc

Similar enough happened to me. I rarely comment on YouTube videos. And if I do, it's almost always heartfelt, honest & constructive, in an area that I am passionate about and dare I say, knowledgeable about and experienced in. And I am good at sums. So I would call out anyone doing blatantly incorrect maths. Not so much does Bob show any appreciation of that, to put it mildly...

You think he'd appreciate the comments for the algorithm. I hear "bad math" etc in YouTube videos can be a purposeful trigger to get more comments. You can certainly see how it'd work

He's on here and can't explain himself so what hope have you on any other form of social media.

Too ignorant and arrogant to explain himself or even admit he made a mistake.

For some reason the people who use liquid fuel have no problems understanding that you can't add 200 litres of petrol in a 50 litre tank. And that the number of litres added is directly proportional to the price of said fuel per litre.

So yes, you can't keep on charging 100's of kWh of electricity in a 50 kWh battery back. Or that if you add 30 kWh in that battery when it's partially used it costs approx. that number multiplied by the cost of the unit. So at home between €2.50 and €10 depending time of day and how bad you're electricity rates are, and on the road about €20.

Making sense doesn't always get clicks or followers though.

WTF has Bob Flavin done with his Youtube channel anyway?

    Tesla Inc?

    @ceo_tesala (sic)?

    All his other content removed?

I take it he's getting a long loaner of a Tesla?

@For Forks Sake - "Been hacked by some Elon fanboys and all his vids gone by the sounds of things"

Surely YouTube would have sorted it out promptly? Obviously only if they are aware of what happened and you'll have to prove who you are. Should be easy enough. Bob Flavin's "Anyone know what to do? Panicking here, 13 years of work!" seems naive at best. I hope this is not all some attention seeking stunt.

I don't think it's Tesla fanboys considering the "Elon Musk crypto giveaway" scam that's being posted in the chat of his live videos.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 401 ✭✭Mythago

Doubt Bob is faking it. He's not the first YouTuber to lose a channel to similar "Elon" scam channels. Even Jim Browning the man that shuts downs scammers got hacked and lost his channel for a period of time.

While I don’t normally laugh at this stuff, he should have the videos backed up. Karma kicks ass too.

Not a nice thing to happen

Well as much as we all criticise him here, I too hope that he gets sorted soon and gets all his stuff back and his channel back up and running. It's the man's living after all.

While people may have our differences with Bob as a journalist or even personally, on a human level this is someone's livelihood or at the very least a significant part of it. Hopefully YouTube will be able to assist with recovery of the account (although if the group that have taken control of his account delete everything, there may be no recovery option for the content without personal backups)

A similar thing happened recently to another channel I've seen (the corridor crew, a video effects group) and they documented all the loopholes and length of time it took them - with their team of techies - to recover the situation. As a one-man show, it may be a long road for Bob - hopefully has a positive outcome.

It's been happening a bit lately, same guys did a home automation channel I follow recently, renamed it to Tesla flogging crypto scams etc.

They send a sponsorship proposal and if you respond they send on some details and a briefing file which has a pdf icon. But it is actually an exe in the old screensaver .scr format. It doesn't trigger antivirus and contains a cookie stealer which nicks your youtube session auth cookies and then they can hijack the account even if it has 2FA.

The videos on the other channel were at least only delisted not deleted so it was all recovered.

Just noticed this now. This is terrible and a horrible thing to happen too. In fact something similar happened to my Dad when he was running his business they stopped him using his computer and it was one of the things that made him decide he had enough of this **** and he decided to retire.

I hope Bob gets his channel and all his videos back.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

Terrible thing to happen, but watch when he does get it back I'm guessing he will try blame Tesla fans. These scammers use Tesla/Musk just to get attention and views.

The youtube channel is back, and with a new video praising the new Renault Megane Electric version.

Praising electrics in general it seems. Certainly changed his tune

He has been praising EVs for many years now. His biggest gripe is with the infrastructure which we can all agree is not where it needs to be.

While he doesn't always get his facts right, there are plenty of other reviewers who are equally as guilty/bad and they don't get the abuse he gets.

For widescale adoption and acceptance of EVs, people like Bob are very important as they speak to the middle of the road (no pun intended) Toyota Corolla drivers.

Name another Irish reviewer who gets his or her facts as wrong as Bob?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 66,652 ✭✭✭✭unkel

@Killer K - "While he doesn't always get his facts right, there are plenty of other reviewers who are equally as guilty/bad and they don't get the abuse he gets."

His problem is that he removes / bans people who correct his mistakes. That doesn't earn you much respect in my book.

I agree with your point about his target audience being the middle of the road, not so well informed, not so clever, not very forward thinking part of the population. And that he'll have more influence there than the Fully Charged Show, Jonny Smith and Bjørn Nyland put together 😁

Nobby makes plenty of mistakes. Watch a few of his reviews. Also, Neil Briscoe doesn't cover himself in glory either and is guilty of a lack of research at very least. His recent review of the Model Y is an excellent example.
