Of course there's "Zero objectivity on display here from the majority of posters". We are not mere observers of this war, we are involved in it. Russia is the enemy and we, as part of the EU, are engaged in an economic war with them. And yes, Putin and Russia are to blame, they started this war.

In case there was any doubt about contact behind the scenes between US and Russia ahead of this visit

Though Western surface-to-air missile systems have bolstered Ukraine’s defensives, the visit marked the rare occasion when a U.S. president has traveled to a conflict zone where the U.S. or its allies did not have control over the airspace. The White House would not go into specifics but said that “basic communication with the Russians occurred to ensure deconfliction” shortly before Biden’s visit in an effort to avoid any miscalculation that could bring the two nuclear-armed nations into direct conflict.

With that in mind, the air raid sirens going off over Kiev were likely theatre as no missiles were launched

@21 chromosomes : you say: The GDP of Russia is smaller than the western countries as when calculating GDP debt is counted as an asset, who here would not like a "reduction " of Irelands GDP by defaulting on all the bank debt the country picked up?

What a garbled, mixed up statement. For a start debt is a liability, not an asset. And the stock of debt has no direct relation to GDP: interest payments may affect things if they are made to foreigners.

I hope for your sake your politics is not as cr*p as you economics.

In the event of tensions between US and China, there will be a flight of capital towards the US and demand for their debt as a safe-haven would dramatically increase.

Is that crappy building the best they have for acting as a backdrop? I'd bet they don't even have a golden toilet in it. It's no Mar-a-Largo. Sad.

Was it not yourself a few pages back posting about how you didn't understand how holding debt was an asset.

Yet you are convinced that China holding a bit of US debt gives them enormous power to wreck the US.

Accusing others of your own wrong doing. That's on page one of the manual.

Former first deputy head of Russian Presidential Administration admits he did not plan for Minsk agreements to be fulfilled

Vladislav Surkov, former First Deputy Head of the Russian Presidential Administration, has said that he worked on the Minsk agreements based on the idea that they should not be fulfilled.

That phrase does seem to be a bit of a red flag, like rabbiting on about gold ("gold bugs" is the term I think) + Russias "resources" (I believe the US alone has almost as much of these "resources" as Russia of every type, I wonder the US+EU might have comparable (or more)? Presence of abundant hard "Resources" like iron and coal vs the resource poor south did not help NK get anywhere in the end).

At the same time alot of these kind of vaguely pro Russia/China conspiracy theory types who post and shriek at us all the end is nigh were big crypto bros as well (cannot get more virtual than that) but the shine seems to have gone off that.

Nato humiliated as a paper tiger. Another classic, not as good as the guy who said we have to look back to the 11th century religious landscape to truly understand this conflict, but a solid cope.

As opposed to Russia, struggling from the start to make inroads against a second-rate military with an annual arms budget a tiny fraction the size of Russias.

All their antiquated gear, crap air force and stunning lack of combined arms capability exposed in front of the entire world. About half of their operational tank fleet lost.

The war couldn't possibly have gone any worse for Russia but it's NATO that's been humiliated.

Anyway, in a conventional confrontation with NATO, munitions wouldn't be as big as factor as NATO air-power capability would gut the Russian military on day one.

Russia couldn't even establish air-superiority over Georgia in 2008. As evident from the Ukraine war, nothing has changed. Even the most hardened Kremlin stooge would be hard pressed to come up with a rebuttal to NATO air-power .

It's likely the conversation went something like this ,The President of the United States is currently in Ukraine we have F22s over head and other aircraft on standby if you threaten the security of the president of the united states it will be considered an act of war ,

    Heed this warning ⚠️

Nah the fiat currency bit is of long standing RD. It plugs into the narrative spin Russia fires at the WEF/Vaxx/Big Government/Pharma/NWO/Globalist conspiracy types in the West to sucker them in. Even the now largely defunct Red Pill PUA types were in on the game. Indeed a few of their previous "gurus" went pro Russia when that jig was up. Though when they were plying the Red Pill stuff Russia and indeed Ukraine were one of their big destinations to look to pick up women/wives. The conspiracy types have been going on about fiat currency for well over a decade as part of their narratives. It's been actually quite clever for Russian propaganda to aim at these groups, along with ardent right wingers and indeed ardent left wingers. The average "Westerner" is less easily swayed, or just doesn't care. They conspiracy groups were poised for exploitation, ever ready to buy into the conspiracy. Russia just tweaked it so they'd be the Good Guys(tm). Like I said I knew and know a few of these kinda folks in Real Life, conspiracy/Right/Left and have watched them go through the usual stuff and it really ramped up during covid, so I wasn't one bit surprised to find them supporting Russia. It was very easy to join the dots.

Can you imagine the Orange Oligarch going to a war zone where the US army doesn't have full control, he'd be running so fast in the other direction he'd be tripping over his bone spurs.

    Well done Joe.

Again not a shock. Again Russia cleverly played the conspiracy nuts in the West and they do it for free with it. Russia and America have co-opted fringe groups throughout the Cold War, but Russia was generally far better at it. There was barely any "left" group in the West that wasn't geting Soviet support, sometimes directly. Even peace movements like CND and the Greenham Common Peace Camp women weren't immune.

Do you know what I found to be the single most consistent thing trotted out by Western Russian supporters including those I actually know since this war kicked off? "Just you wait and see..."

I first heard it when they claimed Russia had no intention of invading(to be fair many thought that). "Just you wait and see..."

Then they invaded and it was all over bar the shouting. "Just you wait and see..."

Then there was some quiet and I heard it again just after they had to "feint" from Kiev and the north of Ukraine, but it comes along every single time Mother Russia's quite clearly and demonstrably not doing so great. Their "tactical withdrawals" from Kharkiv and Kherson(though the latter showed good tactical sense from Russia for once). "Just you wait and see..."

The arrival of HIMARS and other weapons systems that they weren't worried about. "Just you wait and see..."

The sanctions that they never stop wittering on about because they're not having any effect. "Just you wait and see..."

The Chinese not exactly supporting them. The "world" who supports them. "Just you wait and see..."

Damned near every single day of Bahkmut. "Just you wait and see..."

Their talk of wonderwaffen, million man mobilisations and Russia not really trying so far. "Just you wait and see..."

Their talk of the fall of "US hegemony", the NWO/WEF/Elites. Now Fiat currency/gold reserves is being dragged into it. "Just you wait and see..."

Talk of biolabs and weaponised mosquitos and pigeons may come and go and be magically forgotten a week later, but "Just you wait and see..." is forever

A coping mechanism and a way to head off debate and reality to be rolled out again next week.

Many worry about Artificial Intelligence. I worry far more about Organic Idiocy.
