He was not blocked by western governments. He had no mandate to trade territory for peace and strongly doubted that Russia would abide by any agreement. Western governments such as UK likewise strongly doubted Russia would abide by any treaty given how many times they broke previous treaties.

It does matter. It's being blocked in the EU because it is Russian media and it says exactly what the Russian govt. want it to say. Nazism in Ukraine is a reaction to Russian aggression. Some of them took sides with the nazis simply because the nazis were against Russia - my enemy's enemy is my friend. Thereafter an element of nazism took root in Ukraine. The Russians are true nazis and facists because they behave like them. They are the most mendacious nation on earth and have been for a long time. So there is no equivalence between Ukr. nazism and Russian nazism (Wagner) and the spirit of nazism in Russia which is endemic and widespread. So no, you can't have whataboutery when there is such an obvious difference.
