    No this is simply untrue.

He was not blocked by western governments. He had no mandate to trade territory for peace and strongly doubted that Russia would abide by any agreement. Western governments such as UK likewise strongly doubted Russia would abide by any treaty given how many times they broke previous treaties.

Isn't your post the definition of "whataboutery".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,777 ✭✭✭✭odyssey06

Not if Russia cite it as a reason for invasion. It is hypocrisy and lies.

I actually DID miss the part where Putin threatened Europe over and over with nuclear obliteration. What did he say? When and how often? If you could show me then I'd appreciate it.

As for your question......I don't answer "have you stopped beating your wife?" questions.

Why are the west drip feeding weapons to Ukraine? Why not give them everything they need at once to win?

Oh we'll give them tanks this month. Next month we'll give them missile defence systems, the month after we'll give them fighter jet training. Oh there's a 10th round of sanctions too!

I heard them say on sky news yesterday that the fighter jet training that the UK announced yesterday for Ukraine takes 5 years!

Any actual evidence of Russian involvement = 0

Meanwhile US official states and i quote

“Like you, I am, and I think the administration is, very gratified to know that Nord Stream 2 is now, as you like to say, a hunk of metal at the bottom of the sea,”

    With Blinken adding

And ultimately this is also a tremendous opportunity. It’s a tremendous opportunity to once and for all remove the dependence on Russian energy and thus to take away from Vladimir Putin the weaponization of energy as a means of advancing his imperial designs. That’s very significant and that offers tremendous strategic opportunity for the years to come.

    Just saying

Do you have any evidence to share to make your belief any way believable?

It doesn't matter a fig who's funding anything. The issue is about blocking content that is deemed propaganda, lies and hate.

Can you access rt.com and can you access stormfront.org. If you're going to block one for the reasons given then you should block the other. That is of course if the reasons for blocking are actually those stated.

But it's not just a blog post. It's a blog post that gets reactions from many major news outlets like The Times, Der Spiegel or Reuters. All busy spending more words on how he is controversial and how Washington denies than on the actual story. Funny that, but not surprising.

However, I actually agree insofar as unless you got a story you can prove all you've got is a story.

But its a plausible story and it fits what we learned so far and with Biden's remarks and with the remarkable publicly displayed disinterest from Germany and other EU/NATO countries to get to the bottom of and comment on the actual sabotage act. Parliamentary question stonewalled because national security etc blabla. That certainly wouldn't happen if it was clear it was Russia.

Who knows, maybe the proof is yet to come, he does claim his source was directly involved. But how do you prove it. The source cannot reveal themselves, Assange can testify to that.

Do you know why the Sun rag isn't sold in any shops in Liverpool? Because they spread the sickening lies that Liverpool supporters as young as 10 were all drunk and rifling through the pockets of dead supporters lying on the pitch.

Wouldnt be the first time Russia cut off its nose to spite their face eg see what they did to billions worth of passenger planes.

The US can be gratified at Russia scoring an own goal without them having a hand in it.

So your saying the russian TV channel that has been blocked is also a sewer of propaganda, hate, racism, antisemitism, homophobia and transphobia so should be allowed free broadcasting just like a website I have never heard of?

On first reading I thought you were talking about the Stormont assembly up north and was very surprised to see the politicians there were like that. Don't really think the argument that something else that is evil is not banned is a good enough reason for nothing to be done about something that is clearly spreading missinformation and all those negative things you list.

Don’t worry, at least one of your other previous accounts saw the threats linked in this thread.

You seem afraid of the answer you’d arrive at.

The russian psyche thinks it's clever. The initiated observer however is able to conclude the truth by using the projection rule.

In this part of the world we may say who smelt it, dealt it. In the russian mind however the rule is if we say they dealt it, then those those stupid foreigners will never suspect that we dealt it. Thus back to this part of the world one can figure out the truth by the projection rule. 😁😎

Fcuk if that's your response to an INTERNATIONAL NEWS STORY straight from Russia.....I will not waste any time or energy on an obvious putinbot.

It does matter. It's being blocked in the EU because it is Russian media and it says exactly what the Russian govt. want it to say. Certain events post end Feb. last year warrant a reconsideration, it is now not just spreading some disinfo + propaganda that might rot away the brains of those who listen/watch too much of it with an open mind, it is a weapon of a hostile state...

I know you may have dozed off (!) but Russia has pretty much started a war of sorts on the EU as of end Feb. last year. It seems to be tough for some people to accept this, but that is life.

    It really isn't, but whatever..

What is part and parcel of Russian culture is many centuries of imperialism, an imperialism that dropped dead among the ex European empires about the time hitler did, but revitalised Russian imperialism as the wall subsequently went up and Russian imperialism, unbounded by any reformation or enlightenment revved up. Again. It was also invaded more than once and is very twitchy about that. When you view their reasons and motives through this lens it helps you get a better picture of both their ruler's and their subject's general attitudes and indeed where lies and mistruths to us stem from. This is an war of imperialism more than anything and a fight to save the empire as they see it. Russia like China is not a country like Ireland, or Italy, it's an empire and this is an important distinction IMHO.

Pro Russian commentators aimed at Western minds come out with things like "what is a Ukrainian/does Ukraine exist?", a question that doesn't compute for most Western minds anymore and Russian spin types know it so try to address it, though an answer would already be clear in most Russian minds and that answer would be "part of the Russian Mir/Not really no". Even the Russian language and it's an imperial one reflects this. There are basically two Russias/Russians(apologies for spelling). Rooski; what we would see as "Russian", pale, western ethnic Russian background. Rossianin; a citizen of the empire, what we would see as the various ethnic groups within the Russian federation/empire. Part of this Russian Mir they go on about. Ours. There's also an element of if you support Russia you're part of this Russian Mir to some degree, but an actual ethnic Russian who doesn't well that's the Russian version of "Unamerican", minus any leeway to criticise the motherland.

Last year a Russian I know came out with the whole "Ukraine doesn't exist, it's only around since the 20's", I pointed out that so was Ireland. Does Ireland exist? Does Finland? Hell, Germany and Italy only got together in today's form in the 1800's. Does Italy exist? It didn't compute so well for them. And his further automatic response? "Clearly you hate Russia", even though he knows that's bollocks. Even reasoned debate(and this guy's no idiot by any stretch)that goes nowhere near outright criticism is suspected as antagonism and "hate". It is of zero surprise to me that many Russians in Russia are either automatically behind this war and the ones who aren't, well their get out clause is they're "not political"(I've found that works funny enough).

All their ex vassal Soviet Bloc states who legged it as quickly as possible from the Russian Mir were a loss, but meh, they weren't true Rossianin anyway, but Belarus, Ukraine, Georgia are. When Ukraine, or enough of them wanted that to be past tense that was the step too far. Bugger all to do with NATO/EU/Weaponised insects at their borders. To the "Russian mind" Ukraine is and always has been theirs and (was) their people, just like Tibet is and was to China. Their talk about going all the way to Paris and Lisbon etc is just that, talk.

Many worry about Artificial Intelligence. I worry far more about Organic Idiocy.

You should have ABSOLUTLY no problem in being presented with ‘The NATIONAL DEFLECTOR AWARD ‘ for 2023 - even at this early stage and we have another 10 months to go

For all we or he knows, the source could be Russian. As he didn't require or need any actual evidence to post the story on a blog (at least if he was a reporter he would need higher standards) he just went with it. I mean he could have checked the ships were actually where they were supposed to be, ya know what any investigator reporter would do. Then go back to the source and question it. Doesn't look like he done that. Just got an alleged source and ran with it.

Nazism in Ukraine is a reaction to Russian aggression. Some of them took sides with the nazis simply because the nazis were against Russia - my enemy's enemy is my friend. Thereafter an element of nazism took root in Ukraine. The Russians are true nazis and facists because they behave like them. They are the most mendacious nation on earth and have been for a long time. So there is no equivalence between Ukr. nazism and Russian nazism (Wagner) and the spirit of nazism in Russia which is endemic and widespread. So no, you can't have whataboutery when there is such an obvious difference.

It looks like history is starting up again.

Russian bot logic, Rule number one. Opinions = facts and “exhaust anyone who tries to engage in good faith conversation with a combination of unverified points/counterpoints, random subject changes, non-topical whataboutisms, and alternative-opinions-as-facts” and that’s how you win a debate!

Ìndeed. And after the war there will have to be some serious attitude adjustment or they'll find public opinion turning the other way very quickly. I very much doubt that Ukraine's need to be in the west's good books will stop with the shooting.

The claim is that the explosives were planted In June during the BALTOPS22 exercise which apparently happened in the exact area and allegedly included mine diving exercises conducted by a US specialty diving unit. And that they were detonated 3 month later via radio emitters on buoys dropped from a Norwegian surveillance plane. My understanding is that those details check out insofar as they can be checked out. As in there was such an exercise and there was such a plane in those places at those times.

But of course thats 2nd hand information. It is beyond my personal means to verify the location of certain US Marine ships and diving units in June 2022 and of a Norwegian surveillance plane 3 months later. Are you saying you know they weren't there? I mean I know you don't know yourself but have you credible claims these infos are incorrect?
