We all want a cathartic response to stranglehold City have had on the Premier League over the last decade but the likelihood is slim.

It should be relegation down several tiers and titles stripped plus fines and transfer bans but these people (City's owners) aren't messing around and have the financial clout to do anything they like.

The Premier League is a little late to the party with this, it began with Abramovich at Chelsea and has continued with City and now Newcastle.

Anyone can buy a Premier League club and do whatever they like and it's common knowledge.

If City get a way with this and they probably will, we can expect their behaviour to be the norm going forward which it kind of already is.

How will any city supporter look anyone straight in the face and boast or brag about the trophies they have won in the last 10 years?

The same way they did for the past 10 years I suspect.

It will drive Pep bananas. No matter what happens now his legacy is severely damaged. Reminds me of Michelle Smith and all those medals.

Didn't Pep go complaining last season how the media etc didn't give Man City enough credit for winning the trophies they did? I wonder why Pep, I wonder why?

he is on record saying if city have cheated he will be gone the next day because he has been assured they have not cheated and he will not accept such lies....

If they are guilty they should be stripped of the titles and the titles should be awarded to the sides that finished second in each of the seasons they cheated in. thye cannot be allowed to keep the titles in the seasons they cheated. and I don't get the idea of leaving those seasons without a winner - it makes no sense to me. If you are saying first place doesn't get the title cause they cheated, it should be handed to second place.

They should also receive a large points deduction in the season the punishment is handed out. And a large punishment impacting their FFP strength and ability to make sigings/a transfer ban.

100 charges - they should be hit HARD.

    Thats Pep.

He needs to head of too PSG and tack on some more one horse titles for his CV. The jig is up for him in England now and Italy is too unpredictable for his "talents"

Thinking about this more, if found guilty the premier league will have to come down hard on city. Furthermore the premier league have to win this, if they don't, the super league is back on the table like never before.

Stripping of titles and relegation is probably the biggest punishment and message to send out. Man city have completely distorted the financial competitiveness of the league by inflating transfer fees and salaries.

17/18 was about the biggest procession I've ever seen in a top league.

Klopp rescued the next few seasons from the league look equally unbalanced alright though.

His legacy post Barca is average anyway. Monkeys could have won the leagues he won.

Acting the ejit again this weekend dropping De Bruyne in another one of his too smart for his own good"tactical masterclasses"

The PL have to get this right, which makes me think there is a lot in this that is irrefutable.

If they're not sure, I assume there'll be a massive defamation case on the way from City.

The only comparison is dopers in athletics, and in those circumstances people get bumped up.

It should be the same for financial dopers.

    It's not difficult.

here is a list of the tour de france winners 99-05. although i think the reason everyone was not bumped up is cos everyone was doping. will be interesting to see how this pans out, certainly no points deduction this season, maybe even not next season as city will litigate this for as long as possible.

I don't really know if taking their past titles really does much to the club as it is now.

City will shrug their shoulders and move on the same way as they are. The brand, the club with its facilities and all that has gone with it, is now built.

They'll lose a few titles but they'll be back to winning them again soon. Rival fans won't really enjoy "winning" as the moment has long since past. It ruins the integrity of the competition.

The punishment has to be a complete deterrent. There can't be any Grey area where a club can be like "we'll break the rules and take the punishment and we'll still be better off long term than just following the rules from the start".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,320 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

The future is more important than the titles as a deterrent.

A nice few years out of Europe which has always been their true aim will get to them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,791 ✭✭✭✭LuckyLloyd

    Temper your expectations lads.

City will drag this through every appeal, injunction, extension and counter claim that their expansive legal team can dream up. They will drag this out for years and put incredible pressure on the Administrators involved.

A slap on the wrist is most likely outcome, because it will take serious balls to follow through here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,472 ✭✭✭theoneeyedman

No, the loss of the league titles and blackening of their reputation will mean they'll lose all of their major sponsors and go broke.

    Oh wait....... 😁

Juventas got relegated, rangers got relegated, city will be relegated. There isn’t really any other option.

If you win fairly you don’t need a team of lawyers to stop your trophy’s being confiscated.

Medals and trophy’s in the bin/confiscated. Will Pep walk now or at the end of the season.

No sponsors are going to touch a club that will be known as the biggest cheats in football.

    Relegation is inevitable.

Juve were relegated for bribing refs not financial problems. Rangers were not relegated the club folded although I could be wrong on the second one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 557 ✭✭✭Dont Be at It

I'd be shocked if it's anything more than a transfer ban of some kind. Hope I'm wrong but I just cannot see titles being stripped or them being relegated.

There's no way the PL will damage their brand by having an asterisks or No Winner allotted to the first row of the table for all the years City won it. They won't do it for the Aggguueeerrrrrooo goal footage alone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,869 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

That's giving free reign for someone else to do the same though.

Cheat for 10 years, win a few leagues, delay the investigation and then 'suffer' a transfer ban for a year while keeping your league titles. We saw how Chelsea exploited a loophole in the transfer ban nonsense before. That's not a punishment.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 557 ✭✭✭Dont Be at It

I agree 100% with you. I just don't think they'll follow through with punishment of that severity. Hope to God I'm wrong though.

Plus as someone else said there'll be endless court cases etc etc, dragging it out for years. They have an endless supply of money to throw at it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,320 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Anyone else expecting Gianni Infantino to come out and tell us that as a ginger he feels like a Man City fan 🤣

Either that or Man City to claim racism.

The FA will be well aware of public opinion and relegation talk is gathering a lot of momentum.

The Man City statement about they look forward to clearing their name like they did with uefa is taking the piss. They beat the uefa case on a technicality. The premier league is a members club, and lot of those members will be looking for blood.

I'm sure opposition fans are dreaming up interesting songs to sing at their next matches against City.

Sang To The Tune Of S-Club 7's Prodigious Masterpiece REACH FOR THE STARS:

    Breach For The Stars

    Fake Every Profit Higher

    Breach For The Stars

Oh Pep you're such a liar

    Breach For The Stars

And When That Sanction's Hanging Over You

That's When Your Dreams Crash Down On You.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,188 ✭✭✭✭rob316

If found guilty it can't be a slap on the wrist. Super league still looms large and if the premier league can't protect the financial integrity of the league then it will break away. You can be sure the larger clubs are going after this, with the rest backing them. The clubs who will never amount to much more than making up the numbers want the big commerical and broadcasting income to keep rolling and will do what's needed to keep the top clubs at the table.

The premier league is a company made up of the 20 clubs who are the shareholders, the other 19 clubs are driving this, there is no higher authority here. The board act on behalf of the clubs.

Stuff with city is hardly surprising. The crime is its taken this long for it to come up.
