I find the show unsatisfactory for several reasons like the following

--Introductory sequence is a jumble of topic headings and soundbites delivered at breakneck speed -what's the rush ?

-Too many topics ..many quite trivial. Cut show by an hour and dig deeper into fewer topics.

-lack of order in topics ..something is announced as 'coming up ' --could be an hour + before it does

-Insertions of film and song slots are utterly random distractions. Sports slots , as said , pointless froth ..add nothing to anything.

-Now the cursed cash machine crap on top of it all

    -ad breaks too long

Essentially Pat's talents are mostly wasted dealing with fluff when he is a top class well informed sociopolitical interviewer who can tease out issues that really matter . Show gone predictable , comfortable and 'samey'. Needs a good shake up.

Pat's show is progressively dumbing down. It's not quite at Claire Byrne level yet but definitely heading that way. Influencers, bullsh1tters and charlatans regularly appear. He was discussing nail care with some woman the other day FFS! One can sense Pat's irritation when selling for the Cash Machine with some scripted drivel

Please don’t cut the show by an hour. Could we not take an hour from the, dreadful, lunchtime liveline instead?

You can bet your life Jennifer wouldn't be mixing with the unwashed, hubby Hugo well set up after his stint at Goldman sachs, he even tried but failed to get on the old political gravy train, brother Paul a multi millionaire mover and shaker, likewise her moneybags sister-in-law Ann Heraty who's now on the board of Kingspan and ibec.. It gets quite incestuous when you get into the higher echelons of Irish society

That slot was everything thats wrong with mainstream radio.

Panel discussion, all shouting over each other.

Pat would be so much better in Podcast format. One on one, dig into a topic and have a grown up conversation.

Pat Kenny being targeted by the far left (see two can play that game) on Twitter

Many parroting the same line that people fleeing a war zone (France,Germany,England, Albania, Georgia etc) would have to run without documents avoiding the uncomfortable fact that they couldn't fly to Ireland without a passport.

It’s sad that a journalist like Pat Kenny who has enjoyed so much privilege in his life in Ireland is punching down on refugees. The definition of a refugee is someone who has to flee and isn’t able to get visas and ‘travel documents’.

Yeah the friday panel bit is a waste of time mostly.

Just politicos jostling for position spouting the PC party line.

"punching down" that's another one I'm hearing a lot lately, must be some madrasa somewhere schooling them in catchphrases

I think the point that Pat is making is how do these people get on planes to fly to Ireland without passports or travel documents.

They can't - which makes one wonder how they arrive in Dublin Airport without proof of who they are

Either they're all collectively very careless or they believe that it's in their interest not to have such documents when they get here.

It's a perfectly reasonable question, surely

No it's not a reasonable question. You're not allowed ask that.

Even thinking it is not allowed.

Pat mentioned Agent Provocateur’s a couple of times re the protests………keep thinking about Kylie all those years ago on the mechanical horse……good memories

Yeah it’s a well used dopey soundbite on page one of the WOKE phrasebook for dummies

    here’s a few others

    “ not a good look “

    ” problematic “

all the younger new breed of journalists trot them out like a wind up doll

Was just about to post this on the Brendan O'Connor show thread!

She's awful - same the other night on Upfront on RTE1

Well off and well out of touch, hubby ex goldman sachs, brother multi millionaire, sister-in-law another multi millionaire on all the right boards, lives in Nice leafy neighbourhood, far removed from the repercussions of government policy

Progressive....after all who can be against progress?

Bit like the term credit card when in fact it should be a "debt card"

Fair play to Barry White and Pat Kenny for having the balls to dig into the immigration issue over the last week.

They have managed to put in black and white the number of people getting into Ireland from safe countries and/or with no documentation.

Take out all this far right nonsense by getting a proper working Visa system in place and stop giving everyone (except Ukrainians) that turns up free bed and board.

It was also telling that Roderick or Harris wouldn't be available to be interviewed, they are spineless the both of them.

That was an excellent report. Good on ya Pat..seems PK and Michael Mc Dowell are the only people with the balls to call it out

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,483 ✭✭✭✭BPKS

Last Saturday week in the Irish Times radio review, Mick Heaney called out PK for saying that there wasn't room to house immigrants during a debate on the show. Heaney said that Pat might as well have said "Ireland is full".

That debate was a couple of days after the Minister explicitly said that the country could not accommodate migrants as there was no more room in city west.

It was also the day of Kitty Hollands infamous report in the same publication.

His report openly confirming that huge amounts of asylum seekers are bogus and they are here for economic reasons.

Does anyone now believe anything different at this stage other than hard core do gooders.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,209 ✭✭✭hamburgham

Yes, was an excellent report. Would RTE dare to do it? Can’t believe I even wrote that, it’s now ‘daring’ to even mention it. How did that happen? Pat has been testing the water for weeks. Initially saying nothing other than a ‘ hrumph’ or a one word reply in a tone which you knew meant he was dying to get stuck in but restraining himself. Couldn’t argue with that report today.

Yes, many of us were economic migrants in our day but didn’t show up expecting to be provided with accommodation etc.

Hilarious that Simon Harris wouldn’t comment, him of all people. Obviously indefensible. And the joke that the Garda ‘ border control’ or whatever they’re called will now check passports on passengers disembarking from TWO flights a week. What a xxxxing joke.

Woke play thwarted by dead man.

I'm with Beckett on this one, it's his work after all.

Great to be able to control events from beyond the grave.

I knew a man who planted loads of trees.

When he passed the family sold up and the new owner cut most of the trees.

I'm sure Mr B is as pleased today as my friend was sad.

The Beckett thing came up before when someone wanted to alter the location of a play.
