With respect the claim that every politician is a disgrace is untrue.

And it has been pointed out that three of the events were not held in millionaire's venues.

Furthermore there is nothing wrong with being successful in business and providing employment.

I think the whole election expenses "scandal" is a big pile of nothing. The sum total of all this amounts to a couple of grand at most, nothing nearly worthy of the amount of time it's been receiving - especially when the country is in the midst of a number of serious crises.

I found it disgusting that the news reporting a man had been charged with murdering Matthew Healy whilst he was in a hospital ward was pushed down to the 3rd slot. And the main news story was about a mate of a politician using his van, ladders and staff to put up election banners years ago.

A MAN WAS MURDERED ON A HOSPITAL WARD! But Sinn Fein with their whiney voices didn’t deem that more important. So **** them.

They didn’t pay their invoices which is the make and break of any business, small and large. I hope their behaviour sinks them now.

however both of them are non-stories unless theres more to come - less than 10k in unregistered electoral expenses is not a huge scandal, even if it should still be punishable by a fine or something from SIPO for incorrect reporting.

They have been clever in making this a party thing rather than individual.

More invoices and expenses being declared. Fourth time updating their 2020 return now. As I said on the other thread the penalty should be something more than making an amended declaration

Wait until SIPO asks about all the volunteers from another jurisdiction, paid by a political party in another jurisdiction, who came in to work for Sinn Fein during the last election.

Sinn Fein maintain that they are two separate parties, North and South, for political expenses and electoral purposes. Therefore, when officials come South and lend a hand to Sinn Fein South, they are not a member of Sinn Fein South, but a member of Sinn Fein North. Therefore, they are giving assistance in kind and should be reported as part of the SIPO returns and a value put on their time. Exactly the same situation as a man giving a van.

There isn't a chance that Sinn Fein included this in their returns.

Doubt the outrage merchants will be on this thread to condemn them though.

When you look at the first three or four pages of the Paschal thread and the posters who were foaming at the mouth, you have to wonder why they aren't over here calling for MLMD's head!!!! Comedy gold isn't the half of it.

My point is that those "volunteers" fall into the same category as the man with the van in Paschal's situation when it comes to the regulations. Don't think anyone has picked up on this yet. SF didn't include anything on this in their electoral returns. No wonder they are running away from the debate.
