Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Super excited about this. DS2 is in my top 10 favorite games of all time. I actually played 2 before 1, and didn't have as good as an experience with 1 probably because of the unpolished controls and animations. The remake should take care of that hopefully!

Dead space was poundland resident evil 4 but entertaining. Don't mind a remake. There's potential for it to be something special if they really expand on the original.

Just hope they add more asteroid shooting levels. 😁 (Has the replacement for pacman been decided on yet from the new emojis?)

Slightly disappointed its a remake, I replayed it last year in the two weeks between selling my ps4 and getting my ps5 and I would have loved a new entry in the series.

With the quality of some remakes lately im sure it'll be a day one for me. The lure of the Ishimura realised on current gen hardware will be another great gaming experience.

Devs were talking about it, no microtransactions or loading screens! Plus they will take features from the whole series and story elements.

So I don't think it will be just a HD remaster. But rather the original with some gameplay from the series and it expanded sections.

I'd love a longer intro before we ever see a monster.

just don’t make it the 3rd game please

If they change some things up, I say go for it.

DS3 was a game focus-tested to oblivion. Co-op with the gruff army man with the most generic name "John Carver" and look ever, Isaac was a "badass", combat rolls, multiplayer, microtransactions.

I replayed this about 2 years ago on Xbox with backwards compatibility and I didn't feel it was dated at that time. I played it first on PC. I'm not sure I would like to replay it a third time. They should have just got stuck into a Dead Space 4 game and stuck with how the first game was as a guide line.

The one thing i am concerned about was i watched a DEV interview and they want to change Isaac's story a little bit.

Prefer to see a second Black

    Top 3 of all time

One of my all time favourite series, I still replay them all every few years.

I don't think it particularly needs a remake, just an upgrade to the controls and sort out the pc issues. But if it means they want a financial success so they can continue the main story I can get behind it.

And if it turns out to be a Dead Space 1.5 like the Resi 1 remake then that would be awesome

Wasn't expecting to see anything so early. I assume it'll be more behind-the-scenes or concept art type stuff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,000 ✭✭✭Mr Crispy

    Didn't watch it, but here's the stream;

Here's a look at the graphical improvements (on a very early build, obviously). The suit isn't final either.

Looks like an old school diving suit in its current unfinished iteration!

Just going through the video quickly.

Isaac will be voiced this time. Gunner Wright who voiced him for the sequels will be voicing him again.

So weird to see them show off a game in such an early state. It's basically an admission of 'we ain't got **** to show you right now'.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,283 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Remember the E3 where they showed Star Wars and Mass Effect and it was just showing the teams at work with the occasional piece of artwork?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,000 ✭✭✭Mr Crispy

I assumed this early look was to temper expectations and/or gauge feedback.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,000 ✭✭✭Mr Crispy

    We have a "release date" - January 27th, 2023.

They also added a few videos to their YT channel, including an hour long developer livestream, as well as looks at lighting, visual effects, character models etc.

Looks about as straightforward a ‘remake’ / remaster as you can get. I think they’ve said there’ll be additional stuff? But outside some nice environmental effects in the trailer, can’t say I’m too enthused about another version of an alright game, especially when the original hasn’t even aged much.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 23,213 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kiith

Its weird, as i wasn't 100% sure i was watching the new version when the trailer started. Was convinced thats what it originally looked like at first.

I played Dead Space and Dead Space 2 twice but Dead Space 3 only once. I should really play the third again as it's on Game Pass.

Im not a huge fan of Isaac talking, his silence ramped up the tension in the original

It’s reviewing better than I expected! And it’s nice that there’s some additional content in there, and those god awful cannon bits are gone.

I played the original at Halloween though, and I’m happy enough to wait for a sale and play the remake in October.

Less enthusiastic but not bad reviews from the more reliable reviewers. Sounds like the same 7/10 experience it's always been from the eurogamer review.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 51,825 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

More negative review from the usually excellent metro game central.

Delighted to see it getting such great reviews, you never know with remakes if they mess with it too much or not enough they can get it wrong. But for it to do better than the original which was already really high is very good.

Looking forward to playing this in the dark on my new OLED tonight 😨

Really odd that its releasing at 4PM, any idea why?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,283 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

    Maybe going by 8AM PST?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,403 ✭✭✭✭Vicxas

Odd they chose 8am PST. Normally midnight

4-6pm Irish time is pretty standard for Steam releases, although yeah console releases typically release at midnight local time.

Dead space remake is incredible on ps5 . played the original when i was about 19 . Can't remember any of it 😅but remember loving it back then too .3 hours in .

Already downloaded 2 onto my series x!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,496 ✭✭✭wayne040576

I've read reports of CPU overheating on the PC version. I'd be interested in seeing how bad this issue is before buying this. I tend to avoid any games that cause overheating of any sort. I recently had to uninstall weird west as it was frying my GPU and leaving me with a black screen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,917 ✭✭✭Grumpypants

Dead Space on an OLED when the lights go out is amazing. Pitch black with just the glows from the suit and a few distant lights glowing.

I know it's a small thing but the sparks 😍

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,186 ✭✭✭brady12

Ya it's class . Only negative so far not being skip cut scenes 🙈Died twice on one spot and had re watch long cut scene . Could be very frustrating later in game !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,001 ✭✭✭KilOit

Big fan of the series, rocking a Dead Space poster on my wall and using isaacs picture as an avatar on my login screen, sad case I know

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,917 ✭✭✭Grumpypants

The 3D audio is great....well in a scared the **** out of me way 🤣.

Constant sounds all around you, ship creaking, steam pipes, sparks, voices in your head, doors and monsters. Really messes with you.

    Would be horrific in VR.

I'm on chapter 4 atm and I have to say I'm so disappointed. The graphics on the PS5 version are horrendous. It's all pixelated to hell, this is with performance mode disabled. I'm hoping it gets sorted as I see that a lot of people are experiencing the same issue. For me so far The Calisto Protocol is a much better game in terms of atmosphere and visuals at least.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,207 ✭✭✭✭Penn

Played the first hour. Seems pretty good so far. Never played the originals so not much idea of what to expect.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,917 ✭✭✭Grumpypants

It seems to be a bug that came in the day one patch, was just reading an article about it right before coming here. Seems to be when it tries to rescale the resolution down to match the display.

If you have it on disk, delete the patch and it should be perfect.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 102 ✭✭Cold|Fusion

Thanks for that Grumpy. Alas I just deleted it there and cancelled the patches. It still doesn't look great to me. Maybe it's just me! But it just doesn't look like a finished product. It still looks like I'm playing a ps4 version!
