I am only buying games I am really looking forward to at full price these days, which is maybe 3 or 4 a year. Everything else I can wait a few months for. Since I got a steam deck and absolutely loaded it with emulated games and 10 year old PC games, I have more than enough to keep me going.

FIRST Interview with former Limited Run Games employee, Kara Lynne | 'Cancelled' over NONSENSE

Limited Run Games still have their comments switched off on their social media platforms over 2 weeks later after the backlash.

Age of empires 2 coming to xbox and cloud Jan 31st. Optimised for controller - should be interesting. I'm ambidextrous when it comes to kbm/controller, but never played an rts on controller before. First time for everything I suppose and no doubt they'll nail the controls.

Can't wait to see The Quartering's 57 videos discussing his outage about this story.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,639 ✭✭✭✭Jordan 199

The Quartering 😄 Didn't hear that name in a while.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,083 ✭✭✭The Raging Bile Duct

He's still out there, seeing wokeness everywhere and making multiple daily videos about it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,750 ✭✭✭Grumpypants

He is stuck in a quandary. On one hand it's a woke witch hunt getting someone fired. On the other hand she's a woman.

There was a great TheQuartering incident just before Christmas. Elon Musk put up his Twitter poll asking if he should step down as Twitter CEO. When it become clear the Twitter poll wasn’t going the way he hoped, TheQuartering ‘got out of bed in the middle of the night’ to make an ‘emergency video’ and then started publicly begging Musk to personally call him on the phone and to let him run Twitter 😂😂😂😂

A truly legendary level of self-humiliation. “If you are a content creator who cares about the culture war…” - mortifying stuff.

I bet his basement smelled really pissy while frantically making that video.

What’s a bit of piss on the floor when making a video about a Twitter poll that is “more important than 9/11”?

I heard the Walmart he visits is pretty **** as well.

You don't hear much about all those YouTube gaming outrage merchants these days. The neckbeard above, Jim Sterling, Yongyea etc.

I presume Twitch has stole all the audience.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 35,941 CMod ✭✭✭✭pixelburp

Ye gods TheQuartering. That shíte still making videos? Seemed like he was unavoidable for what felt like an age, his rubbish shared here over whatever-thr-fúck latest "culture war" incident had transpired.

Thanks guys for reminding me of him lol 🙄🤦😂

    Don't you mean a quarterandary?

    I'll get my coat.

Speaking of Jim Sterling, I politely asked them if they would be covering the controversy regarding Limited Run Games. They're always making videos about workers rights and those at the top in the gaming industry being ########. I got no reply, except...

    What an absolute hypocrite!

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,991 ✭✭✭Stone Deaf 4evr

Now that you mention it, I havent seen him pop up in ages either, there must have been some sort of correction to the youtube algorithm, or perhaps its the fact that I gave up twitter a year and a half ago (which incidentally, has been positively wonderful)

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 35,941 CMod ✭✭✭✭pixelburp

Could be: perhaps also, there's a new YouTube'r de jour who specialises in histrionic tirades about the latest affront to western civilisation?

In any case, I am curious: what are the objective bullet points to this Limited Run Games "controversy" anyway? I've no idea what it refers to.

The algorithm on social media sites gives you what you look at. Unfortunately, people find anger a more powerful emotion so tend to linger on those areas.

But if you search for "cute puppies" for a week your feed is fixed. Unless you hate puppies. 🤨

From a quick google yesterday, it seems like the woman had posted some low-key anti-trans stuff on Twitter about women's safety in private spaces. A trans-activist found them, then also went back years through their twitter and found some more, and pushed for the company to fire her, which they did. Seems like an over-reaction from all involved.

That said, sligeach, considering Jim Stephanie Sterling identifies as non-binary and a member of the trans community, I can't really blame them for blocking you. You knew what type of reaction you were looking for by purposefully targetting them for comment on it, regardless of how "politely" you may have worded your tweet.

I'm not saying they're not a hypocrite, but I can't blame them for blocking you rather than replying.

My (limited) understanding is that a community manager was fired, allegedly after it emerged she was following a bunch of right-wing and transphobic accounts. Limited Run vaguely announced that a staff member had been terminated following a 'review'. In the absence of much other information about the situation, various 'culture war' content creators have made Limited Run a target. Now the fired community manager has done her first interview, seemingly with an 'anti-SJW' type YouTuber (and I say that 'objectively' - that's what almost all the chap's videos seem to be about).

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 50,807 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

So basically Limited Run did nothing wrong. Outside work you are allowed do whatever you want but if it impacts your employer they are perfectly within their rights to terminate your employment. Having a right wing nutcase as a community manager is one of those things.

Basically if you are going to be an evil disgusting human don't cry foul or the first amendment when you get treated like a disgusting human. You're allowed say what you want but also have to own the consequences of what you say.

Thanks guys; funny it's about what I would have guessed happened, given the headline was "...cancelled over nonsense".

It's hard to piece together fully but from what I see, it seems to have started when she said she was looking forward to the Hogwarts game.

Someone called "Purple Tinker Hates Elon" (who seems to be the founder of Bronycon??) got upset about this due to the JK Rowling getting paid from the Harry Potter licence for that game.

Then went through 6 or so years of twitter posts to find one tweet from 2016 that said "If you think the number of trans crying about using a bathroom is higher than the perves using the excuse, you are what is wrong with the world".

Then they trawled through the 1600+ accounts they follow. Which if you are a community manager you will follow loads of twitter accounts without actually doing a forensic deep dive into them. They picked out 3, Ian Miles Chong, and Blair White and I think libsoftiktok.

It kind of went nowhere, until it was posted in Resetera and then it picked up traction.

    And then LRG fired her.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 50,807 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

Was this her personal account or the LRG community manager account? Because if it was anyway associated with LRG she should not have been following back anyone that wasn't directly related to work and definitely not neo nazi pond scum.

It's just as bad either way. Having a community manager that follows them is not a good look for the company.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,967 ✭✭✭McFly85

It seems pretty harsh to sack someone over some tweets from years ago and what their perceived views on a certain topic are through who they follow.

Was she even given a chance to apologise or clarify, or was she just shown the door because the company didn’t want the bad press?

It’s one of those situations where I think nobody comes out of it looking well - a community manager who’s following politically questionable accounts, a witch hunt led with seemingly little actual recent evidence, and an employer who will quickly react to internet pressure.

Regardless, I’d say for her it’s lesson learned. If a lot of your job is being on Twitter, then expect people to size you up based on everything in that profile.

What you've posted in your opening paragraph is wrong. Kara Lynne posted that she was looking forward to the Hogwarts Legacy game. Pink Tinker took exception to this, went digging back 6 or 7 years into Kara's Twitter history and found one post, that wasn't even anti trans. They also used the people that Kara followed on Twitter as proof that she's a transphobe. Kara's offending Twitter post from 2016.

"If you think the # of trans crying about using a bathroom is higher than the perves using the excuse, you are what is wrong with this world."

Pink Tinker went on a tirade threatening to boycott Limited Run Games unless they fired Kara. Within the same day Kara was terminated. Limited Run Games did the shoddiest of an investigation. The person with the dodgy past is Pink Tinker. Pink Tinker took delight in her unfair dismissal.

I've watched all of Jim Sterling's videos on YouTube for years. I think they're great. So because the person who made the accusations is a fellow member of the trans community, nope, they get a free pass? This story is as much, in fact, more about Limited Run Games. This is the sort of story that Jim is usually all over. This is literally my Tweet.

"@JimSterling Congratulations. Are you going to cover the 💩storm that @LimitedRunGames have created for themselves by unjustly firing their Community Manager, Kara Lynne? I thought this would be a news story you would be all over.

    https://youtube.com/watch?v=172fJew0Ft4 "

I was congratulating them on a recent wrestling event they took part in. I'll probably keep watching their videos, but they went down a bit in my estimation. This situation is exactly what they've made their success on YouTube. You can be sure if roles were reversed they'd have been all over it.
