Charts showed the uppers turning marginally colder again this afternoon. Enough to swing it back to sleet/snow. A fractional change really but when it's marginal it seems enough

Rain turned to ice pellets, then to rain/sleet in Galway city recently, still a nice chill in the air.

Sleet snow shower in hills of East Clare. All very marginal but a nice surprise as I wasn't expecting anything.

Driving around Sligo town some parts whiter than others. Even around the town outskirts. Some fields white others beside them green. Both in the sun. Strange.

Some places might get more snow today and tonight. It ain't over till tomorrow. This January has delivered snow for many counties. But just like kinda the cold snaps of years gone by but good considering its a sloppy northwesterly.

Aside from Donegal and inland/high ground Kerry, parts of West Cork and a few parts of south Dublin (last cold spell) I don't think many places have seen a decent covering of snow this winter other than a dusting or temporary accumulation. Most of Leinster and Munster is still waiting for the first flakes of the winter to settle. For 2 cold spells this is fairly poor and very disappointing overall. We are doing well on the frost end of things however.

Longford got a good dusting this morning

Kids in schools out building snowmen

I live on low ground and saw a bit more than a dusting(3cm), but compared to some past cold spells I have to agree this was a poor return in comparison for this region.

A prolonged shower of heavy snow at the moment. It eased off but has got heavy again. Its heavier than any shower we had yesterday. Met Éireann on their website forecast a period of Rain and Sleet in Munster and Connacht this evening.

I think you're underestimating lastnights coverage across a wide swathe of the midlands and North West.

Still an inch on the ground in Roscommon

Nice frosty evening. Snow has hardened from the small thaw earlier on the footpaths.

Weather forecast mentioned freezing rain a possibility in the SW tonight and sleet, maybe snow. Hoping to catch a shower or two later.

Dangerous paths in cork city tonight, especially in places that were shaded. About 3 degrees but there was a recent shower, and my house is shaded, paths are fully black ice. Take care!

When breaking into your house tonight i shall bring the golf shoes just to be safe. Thanks in advance.

    I sure do hope I'm not jinx-ing anything. :-(

    Snowed for 10 minutes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,867 ✭✭✭✭nacho libre

I think the showers are confined to the North of the country now. I was hoping the Met Eireann text forecast of Rain and Sleet in Connacht and Munster would happen, but with snow instead of sleet. Sleet gets a lot of mentions over the next day or two.

Power gone in Sligo and road like a bottle from rain and sleet. Is there no gritters?

Some of the driveways are like ice rinks

Snowing here again in Carrick, a nice Dusting too, - 1c

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,867 ✭✭✭✭nacho libre

Oh really. Hopefully we could get a bit here. There has been a good freeze for a couple of hours now. The snow has compacted and turned to ice.

Same here its awful, my 10 minute walk took 20 mins as i had to be careful, full of ice everywhere, even the flooded football pitch which is 2ft under water is parcially frozen (sorry that's not spelt correctly but even Google couldn't correct it)

My sister in Leitrim sent some fantastic snow pics today. You lucky ducks getting so much snow. A much bigger snow event than I expected.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,867 ✭✭✭✭nacho libre

Yeah it very dicey out there. I hope there is no freezing rain in the West and Southwest. That stuff is lethal.

Snowed here in Sligo too but can't see it as power still out.

We have power back this last 2 hours. :). South Sligo. The 4cm layer of snow is now freezing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,753 ✭✭✭Dazler97

I think it's just to be frosty for me tonight but yes hopefully it won't be snowy elsewhere

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,867 ✭✭✭✭nacho libre

Yeah, just looking at the Met Radar there, I don't think I will be seeing any showers tonight.
