Hey Mike. Welcome aboard. Long time user but only very occasional poster here nowadays (unfortunately). Tech issues aside, I dissgree with the free hand some non-staff seem to have on this site nowadays.

It's ironic though that customisation under Vanila is being given as a cause of the ongoing performance issues on desktop in particular when a long-standing complaint from the (former) staff and justification for the move to Vanila in the first place was the customisation and maintainance requirements of the old vbulletin site. I'm not blaming you for it - you can only provide the feedback and updates which is appreciated - but it seems that we're back where we started, but on a far inferior platform with (from what I can see) very limited support from and influence over the vendor.

For what it's worth, the site itself seems to be working albeit very slowly on Windows/Chrome anytime I've been on lately. As Emmet above says though, this isn't reflected on mobile (Android) which is interesting as I thought it was the same core just formatted differently?

In any case, you have your work cut out but welcome again and happy new year to you and all!

I'm still collecting unneeded drafts the whole time - mostly of posts that have already uploaded to the thread, but a draft is still saved.

It's only 4 showing now - some have disappeared as I have since posted again in the thread, so I've "used" the draft.

I thought all this auto draft saving stuff was to be switched off?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,752 ✭✭✭The Continental Op

An interesting feature when it comes to deleting drafts is that the site is so slow that if you start at the bottom of the list and hit the crosses one after another you can delete about 10 before the page to refreshes.

Wake me up when it's all over.

On desktop, there is a button (very well hidden, which is another gripe) to view posters' comments.

This works on mobile, but on desktop it just refreshes the page showing threads (discussions) started by that person.

It works on desktop for my own profile, and displays a list of my comments) but not for viewing other posters' comments.

Is there any plan to make this button actually work?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,692 ✭✭✭DeepBlue

On desktop you have to click on the user's avatar and then there is a link to their comments. Is that what you mean by the hidden button?

Unless they put up a pic it's going to be more or less impossible to figure out what they're talking about...

The Comments button here doesn't work anymore, just brings you back to the same page.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 41,032 ✭✭✭✭ohnonotgmail

is there a page that shows you all the comments for a user? I dont think there is which may be the problem. there is nowhere for that link to go to.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 3,072 ✭✭✭Glaceon

There is, it used to link to https://www.boards.ie/profile/comments/<username> and that still works if you enter it manually.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,692 ✭✭✭DeepBlue

On desktop if you click a user's avatar (not their name) you get this popup where you can then click on the comments link to get their comments.

should be straightforward to fix. the link behind that dropdown menu is wrong

    Screenshot 2023-01-17 152915.png

If you go to https://www.boards.ie/profile/comments/Micky%2032 and click on the same menu it correctly takes you to the Comments page

    Screenshot 2023-01-17 153035.png

looking at it again that Comments menu item just bring you back to the same page.

Can you get the devs to look at this @Boards.ie: Mike ?

If you install Boards Enhancement Suite, when you hover over a user's name you get this

And now I have a saved draft on a thread that I opened and read, but never attempted nor wanted to comment on - I didn't press the quote button (I am 100% sure of that), but yet there's a draft saved????

    🙄

Very bad loading times this morning. Between 9-14 seconds. Makes it pretty unusable to be honest

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 29,459 ✭✭✭✭_Kaiser_

Why? Serious question. What do you want to see someone's previous posts for?

I'm not a fan of this trawling a user's posting history idea that's become a thing here nowadays (and the only reason I can see behind this for non-Mod users). Just deal with the point they are making in whatever thread you're engaging with them in, no?

well don't do it then. what features other posters use is none of your business.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 29,459 ✭✭✭✭_Kaiser_

It is when/if said posters start digging up irrelevant or completely different context posts from other threads/ages back to try and derail or point score in the current conversation.

It's very much my business in such a case, but thanks for your contribution.

Nowadays? That's been a thing since long before I joined, and I'm around a long time. And you might have a point about engaging solely with a user's point, but only if all users posted in good faith. There are many examples of users taking completely contradictory standpoints from discussion to discussion, either for trolling purposes, just to be a contrarian, or because they're simply being hypocritical.

Bringing in irrelevant posts from a user's history is "being a dick", and there already is a mechanism for dealing with that

Boardsie Enhancement Suite - a browser extension to make using Boards on desktop a better experience (includes full-width display, keyboard shortcuts, dark mode, and more). Now available through your browser's extension store.

    Exactly this.

I would often glance at other users post to see if they are someone I should seriously engage with, or if they're just a WUM or ****-stirring (very frequently if a post gives me pause, they turn out to be exactly that, and duly get reported).

I agree that digging up old posts to throw at posters (also a form of ****-stirring) should not be tolerated.

Did a search for The Blacklist TV show thread and page not found when I try to open ( it showed up in search for Spader )

I note this thread is titled "Welcome to the new boards.ie platform - Version 1.0". I haven't noticed any significant changes since it was first launched. There were some bugs fixed, but little or nothing else done.

My single biggest gripe with the new site is the inability to partially quote someone easily. If you do intend any updates, please address this!

Also, thanked posts, particularly posts with many thanks, no longer stand out. This is a big loss to the reader experience IMO.

Thank you for your suggestions Scotty #. I have kept a note of them for future updates.

This habit on the desktop site of the page randomly jumping around is getting worse for me. It's really annoying when you're half way through reading a post and it jumps jumps to the top of the page. This has been mentioned several times now and nothing done.

Rich Text Editor. To edit a paragraph's style, hit tab to get to the paragraph menu. From there you will be able to pick one style. Nothing defaults to paragraph. An inline formatting menu will show up when you select text. Hit tab to get into that menu. Some elements, such as rich link embeds, images, loading indicators, and error messages may get inserted into the editor. You may navigate to these using the arrow keys inside of the editor and delete them with the delete or backspace key.
