By Sunday morn, it looks like the Mournes., Dublin/Wicklow mountains and a few other hills and mountains will have a covering. Sadly not a regular site as it once was in Januarys past, and this January also has been so mild up to now.

BBC weather had snow for Donegal and some showers of snow for the rest of Northwest. Also a band of snow on Sunday in Britain. Some of this could impact the South and East on Sunday evening. Details very uncertain he said on forecast. Still interesting nonetheless.

Looking at short range models this morning and a right mixed bag showing. UKV quite bullish on scattered showers in the west others show mostly rain. At least at the moment it is dry with blue sky which will hopefully give some local roads a chance to dry out.

A dry sunny day at last. Looks mostly dry till next Wednesday/Thursday away from Donegal we really need this. Make the most of it, we will be back to a mild and wet pattern by Thursday.

A real east/west split over the next week with regards to rainfall. Western areas still look fairly wet but much dryer to the east with not much measurable rainfall in the Dublin area over the following 7 days.

Surely you mean most of Ulster and Connaught and some Western parts of Leinster and Munster? That's just going by current weather conditions.

Most of the rainfall in the linked chart does not occur until next Wednesday/Thursday and into Friday, this would be the period where we are most likely to switch back to properly mild and unsettled.

By the end of next week parts of the Wesr will be near the dreaded 200mm of rain that we get about 2 months a year. At least January is now one of those months so it reduces the chances of 2 months in Summer being very wet.

Apart from the East most of the country will still have rain next week but things could dry out nationwide by the end of the week, however mild and wet equally as likely.

I expect the band of rain and sleet over Ulster to turn more readily to snow after darkness as it pushes east-northeast. It will produce flurries over parts of Louth and maybe Meath and parts of North and east Connacht as it swings back in the early hours tomorrow. If will dissipate as it pushes back south.

I think it arrived 3 or 4 hours quicker than forecast. Will probably be clearing from here just around darkness which is a pity but hopefully somewhere gets a covering before it’s done.

From an imby perspective I'm still quite interested in next Tuesday. MT this morning said

"TUESDAY little change, cold with some morning ice fog, mid-day sunshine in places, isolated outbreaks of sleet or snow elsewhere, more likely near south and west coasts, lows -4 to -1 C and highs 3-6 C..."

that's about as much chance of snow for these parts as there has been since NY day last year.

The ECM continues to be consistent for the next couple of days in showing cold enough airs over us with precipitation coming in from the Atlantic from small LP features and their associated occluded fronts and trough activity to produce wintry weather and snow a definite possiblity. Along the Atlantic seaboard should get a fair bit of snow over the next couple of days and I would be more confident of seeing it quite low down. Definitely on higher hilly terrain of 100m + but I have a feeling might even get a bit out here by the coast in Kerry if only for a short time.

Freezing conditions set in soon after dark for much of the country on Monday evening, very slow to rise above freezing on Tuesday, especially over the snow fields in Kerry and Limerick 😁. Still cold on Mon night /Tues morning but less cold owing to a stiff NW'ly wind. Breezy over parts of the country on Weds and feeling very cold with the wind chill. Quite a convective set up with isolated thunderstorm potential especially along Atlantic coasts for the next couple of days, maybe mostly over water but some thunderstorms might stray on to land also, definitely would expect some fine hail showers but hard to know how far inland they will go.

So should get a lot more wintry weather the next couple of days from late afternoon/ early evening tomorrow, this is where it should get interesting before the quick change on Thurs.

Going to include the ECMWF Swiss Hi Res to see how it does, showing snow penetrating inland to the midlands from the NW airflow, quite gusty along the W,NW, N ,I would think more so from Convective clouds containing plenty of hail with big downdraughts and perhaps thunderstorms, could be testing enough weather in coastal counties with sudden downpours of hail along with a wintry mix and snow very possible.
