There’s not a chance my Aussie friend that that happens. Continental Europe has no interest in a frayed relationship with a Central Europe country that has among other things important transport axes. A chip on the shoulder tends to be the Irish way but continental countries are generally more pragmatic. There’s a lot of win-win for France and Germany with large expat communities in Switzerland they weren’t be upsetting the cart to please an island off the coast of Britain. Switzerland if anything has lost its neutral status by fully backing EU sanctions against Russia. Swiss law prevents Switzerland exporting arms to countries at war however worthy the cause. Would probably need a referendum to change it and the Swiss are very wary of making rash populist decisions.

No, the main advantage of gas turbines over diesels is they have a better power to weight ratio, allowing for a lighter tank.

Anyone coming up with excuses Scholz will try so as not to allow Leopards be sent to Ukraine?

The information you're running on is old, though. We're not talking about hybrid power plants here, just regular AGT-1500s with latest design turbine blades, filters and ECU programming. They still do take more fuel (esp at idle) than diesels, but the difference is sufficiently small as to be insignificant in the large scale. There's a reason why a full decade after demonstration of the MTU engine in M1 (actually, the exact same hull that they have turned into the AbramsX demonstrator last year) no customer has asked for it.

If the US were to deliver M1s to Ukraine, I would assume they would be AIMS SAs or FEPs recently withdrawn from US service. Not the absolute latest, but still with a number of improvements in the power train (amongst other vehicles) over the A1s I went to war with in 2004.

Ukraine we're happy keeping them at arm's length especially when Soledar was securing Bakhmut from any northern threat. This situation was forced upon them buy a rare Russian breakthrough and they resorted to plan B. Hopefully it works. If it holds they might never take Bakhmut if it falls Bakhmut may follow in weeks or months.

As for the Swiss I looked into their "neutrality" a few years ago and discovered it's all a load of selfish bollox but it's probably the reason why they still exist as a nation considering they're close to many previous empires or powerful nations. When Spain, Germany, Italy, France, Austria, Hungary, Vatican etc were all having different wars over the years Switzerland would hire out their well trained mercenary army to whoever they thought would win.

Some of the Russian propaganda at the moment is just outrageously false.

The claim that there are 1,000 Ukrainians encircled in the middle of Soledar is a complete fabrication, like the supposed 10k Russians at Izyium from the Kharkiv offensive last year.

There are some more nasty looking Russian videos doing the round of Ukrainian casualties that are staged. I have no doubt Ukraine lost people, but it's clear that the Ukrainian bodies were brought from all over Soledar and placed in a pile for maximum propaganda effect.

The most insidious claim I've seen is the video where Wagner claimed the Ukrainians jumped from a several storey building to avoid capture. A video shows twisted corpses, but it's obvious the Ukrainians were thrown from the windows above after they had been killed.

German Landesbanks are just as closed as Swiss banks and Austrian ones are at another level.

Nothing will be said to Switzerland from most European countries

Switzerland exists because it is a mountainous country where even the dog and his mother have an Army rifle and Training near by.

    Untitled Image

100 Ukraine soldiers captured out of the 500 who have withdrawn and still under pressure

This has been a Hugh blow, Ukraine will have the same tactics throw at them again it overwhelming numbers thrown at a battle

Russia will use anybody even those in it captured territory to do this suicidal advance its brutal but it has worked here

I think the reluctant or slow western support may wane if there are further setbacks Ukraine needs boots on the ground to stop this Poland will probably break rank first if Belarus make a move

fcku Germany they want a Russian victory

Must say the Chinese assessment also sounds accurate. Russia is pretty much a busted flush on the global stage, finished as a player. You don't get to take on the US, the EU and the other G7 nations, make yourself an enemy and total pariah with all of them and come out unscathed on the other side.

Even if true 100 lost is nothing. The win loss ratio is terrible for russia even if this is true its their only win we have seen since the starting of the war. I would hold off buying stock in russian products just yet.

Geo location of Russians next to a wrecked Ukrainian vehicle well to the rear of Soledar.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,356 ✭✭✭✭Say my name

It's a Russian thread but obviously it's tied with Ukraine which Mr.Putin decidedly to bomb the crap out of and kill everything.

But here's a farmer in ukraine who still has his day to day chores to do in spite of Satan.

    Phuck Putin.

Troops complaining that they are being blackmailed by their own Commanders?

They must be the lucky ones, cos the story is also circulating that Officers are shooting conscripts in both feet, so that they are physically unable to abandon their posts.

    Classy.

    Soledar latest news.

*Looks like this may not be accurate, and they have actually retreated from Soledar!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,291 ✭✭✭✭Gatling

I've seen various claims of soledar been completely surrounded, and mass surrenders of Ukrainan forces, and the claims come from Russian sources.

Pinch of salt or whenever quoting Russian sources,a whole shipping container of salt

I see a video of a burned out wreck but I see no Russians just a video labeled by Russian soldiers....

Next ~24 hours could be the most hellish in Soledar - CNN.

A Ukrainian soldier, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that the Russians are jamming communications and this makes coordination extremely difficult: "It's hard here, but we are more alive than anyone else." There are no signs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces retreating from the city.

Reports of the death of Soledar may be exagerated.

The disinformation effort seems particularly intense.

The disinformation has definitely gone up a notch, especially from pro russian accounts everywhere,

And the fact it's being shared across multiple platforms despite people damn well knowing its utter shite .

But according to their sources Russian is winning as they predicted....

Can I ask, since you know your tanks. Are the Western Tanks that much better than the standard fare offered by the Russians?

For example, if the Ukrainians manage to get their hands on 100 donated Leopard 2 tanks and use them in the Spring/Summer for an offensive, would it be a game changer?

We all saw how HIMARS was a bit of a game changer when it came to disrupting Russian Operations and Supply. Are we getting ahead of ourselves thinking that Western Tanks would cut through Russian lines like butter or is it a lot more complicated than that.

Optics, Guidance, Computing systems, Active armour, Reactive armour. Suspensions, Command and Control linked systems. The list goes on of how far ahead the west is.

For example. And that was just challenger 1.

A car used to transport troops, returning from Bakhmut. The video was posted by people trying to raise funds to buy 10 cars for the troops, for obvious reasons.

Someone should send Scholz that video and ask could Germany spare a few cars.

CNN journalists are now near Soledar, Donetsk region, where the fiercest fighting is taking place.

They report that Ukrainian troops feel confident and are not going to leave the city.

Members of the CNN team also noticed how important the help of the West is in this war - the Ukrainian military in Soledar use many combat and medical vehicles from Poland, France, the United States, Britain and other countries

Even more to cast doubt on supposed pockets full of surrender.

It's classic russia winning when they are loosing. Ukraine loosing when they are wining. We were told Ukraine would be hammered by well defended russian positions to just walk in pretty much. Even If any of this is true its 1 guy not the russian army he's trying to make a name in russia.
