This is not good at all. Competing with the likes of Limerick and Dublin, requires serious financial resources being put towards the preparation of our intercounty teams. However that's going to continue to be challenging, when we still aren't in anyway close to paying off the debt for the Stade De Frank.

    That's a disgrace.

I thought the FAI were the real masters of incompetency in sports in this country

GAA are actually worse when you think of support it has.

I fear for Cork GAA going forward.

Big loss to the hurlers as Mark Coleman looks very likely to miss out on the entire season. Getting a knee op apparently.

Can any of you Cork lads explain how Ballygiblin are in an All Ireland Junior hurling final 2 years in a row?

They heat Horsewood of Wexford yesterday and face Easkey/StFarnans of Sligo in the final in January. They lost last years AI Jnr final to Mooncoin.

How were they not promoted to Intermediate this year?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,106 ✭✭✭✭callaway92

Not a Cork man - but I know they won Junior County in 2021 and then Premier Junior became a thing in Cork (which they’ve now won in 2022)

Premier Junior winners now go on to Provincial ‘Junior’

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,420 ✭✭✭Cork2021

Cork GAA regraded our county championship. So our Premier Juniors will compete the junior Munster championship etc. Ballygiblin won the old junior A championship last year but lost and got promoted to premier so are representing cork. All in all Ballygiblin are the Kerry football equivalent of intermediate. They should win the All Ireland now

Thanks. All sounds very fair 😏

The way Kerry Club Football is designed, they are more like Junior B in fairness.

Yes a bit strange I'll admit but they still won the 5th grade of Cork Hurling... So by ranking the 49th best team in Cork this year.

    1. Premier Senior
    2. Senior A
    3. Premier Intermediate
    4. Intermediate A
    5. Premier Junior

Cork beat Kerry 5-11 v 0-14 in the football tonight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,750 ✭✭✭✭ACitizenErased

Went into the football tonight. Cork were outstanding, albeit against a poor Kerry team. Serious speed that we haven't seen from a Cork team for a long while.

In hurling news, the Canon O'Brien Cup is on in the Mardyke on 10th Jan at 6pm. €5 entry with all proceeds going to the Dillon Quirke foundation.

I would not be getting too carried away with win last night.

Cork are miles off where need to be.

Sad to hear of Paudie Palmer passing. He was a distinct voice on 103FM for years and loved Cork as much as us natives.

His distinctive voice will be sorely missed. I had heard that he was knocked down a week ago but didn't realise how bad the injuries were.

I'm very sad to hear about Paudies passing. I'll miss listening to him on the radio, and i used to enjoy reading his articles in the Echo as well. May he RIP.
