Varying degrees of length between end of kerb and side streets. Seems like it'll encourage left hooks to me.

They're very low. Cars will definitely park across them. Similar to mounting a footpath.

They do also have small bollards in between, but not enough to stop parking, as you say.

But they can always go back to the wands if they are forced too. I don't think the Gardai will do any enforcing anyway.

The wands were ugly, but the sausage kerbs are useless. They’ll give almost no resistance to drivers driving over them, particularly bigger cars.

It’s funny, I seen an article the other day where DCC were trying to engage with schools to stop kids from cycling on the footpath on Griffith Avenue and use the lanes instead, but then they go and downgrade the lanes to a mere bump to protect kids.

they must be some of the widest footpaths in Dublin, was kids cycling on them that much of an issue, you'd wonder.

On the junction of Ballygall Road East and Griffith Avenue looking east. On road concrete kerb extended up to this junction. I'm interested to see will it progress on down Griffith Avenue extension.

They have those all over the place here (in the Netherlands).

Into buildings like stations, short cut steps up to a bridge, anywhere a footpad goes up (or down). Obviously directly linked with cycle paths, but they work well.

Here (qualified above) when I used them, you walk up the steps and the bike tilts over, it's not vertical like you would cycle.

People here of all ages and bike types (stadsfiets to bakfiets to MTB to tri) use them.

There had been talk of a proper cycle route through phibsboro, though via Eglinton terrace and royal canal bank, where that ramp is. I just hope that's not the final design for those steps...

saw these first on the entrance to Grand Canal dock Dart station. A steel C section on it's back with toes facing up. You could wheel bike down the track, very simple & useful. Can see the track in the google earth link below if you zoom into the base of the middle handrail

I presume that is just an interim measure, the BusConnects proposal was to have the walking/cycle path go under the road there.

are there any plans for bike lanes from swords to the airport? i had to cycle from swords to santry direction sometimes and it's a nightmare on that dual carriageway. when you get to the turn off for the M1 coming towards the airport you either keep going onto the M1 or you have to cross crazy busy traffic then cycle in the middle of the road to get into a bus lane. it's not fit for cycling at all and there's not really any other way into town from swords by bike. This section here.

I think you are meant to cross the road at the pedestrian crossing at the coachman's before you get to the M1 turn off pictured above. Then continue against the traffic on the shared foot/bike path and navigate the roundabout using the pedestrian lights and cross back over the road at the pedestrian lights at Kealy's.

Not ideal obviously.

Edit: I'm not aware of any plans to improve the bikes lanes from swords to the airport, not sure if it's covered by bus connects? Personally I would love if there was high quality, segregated bike lanes/infrastructure on all the main arterial routes in to the city centre and I think the Swords-Airport-Whitehall-City centre route has the space/potential to be done really well.

Fingal Co Co have the nerve to post a "progress" photo on Facebook of a temporary access route being laid for the Broadmeadow Way Greenway with the following caption: Advance works commenced earlier this week on the Broadmeadow Way greenway scheme. These early-stage works will facilitate ground investigation works taking place in the coming months with construction of the greenway expected to follow in 2024/2025.

How pathetic is that given that planning permission was granted years ago and it's been in their Development Plans for even longer.

just cycled home from dropping the car off to the garage, very pleased to see that the council have painted a 150m long bike lane on the uphill at the western end of old finglas road (i.e. as you climb up away from the finglas road). it made that climb feel a lot safer.

Not specific cycle infrastructure but it does help make this area a *little safer, currently it's a high speed Death circle over the M1 for anyone cycling:

But that flyover is lethal, not to mention the O.T. Road and the usage of the bus lane for high speed vans and trucks skipping past traffic to get into Clonshaugh ind. estate, and on the other side people who use the bus lane to practice motorway speeds driving too...
