Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Sticking with the unchristmassy theme, the pictures below all show christmas scenes from films which aren't specifically christmas films

Question 5: name one of the films from the stills below

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,380 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

    Today's answers:

Edward Scissorhands, LA Confidential, Little Women, Trading Places

Die Hard, You've Got Mail, Batman Returns, Gremlins

An incredibly even spread of answers today, with a low triple sheep. Unfortunately Butty didn't get an answer in and Mam picked the wrong Batman film. Not too painful a mistake though

Sorry, I can't work out tables on boards so this looks a mess. I hate vanilla!

I should have guessed you would have picked trading places as well @Posy

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 27,641 Mod ✭✭✭✭Posy

Love Trading Places so much. 😁

I couldn't, on principle, pick Die Hard, on account of it being a 100% completely Christmas film and therefore not a valid answer. 😆

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,424 ✭✭✭Aisling(",)

Whoop. I took a risk with gremlins but I thought everyone would think it too obvious and it paid off.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,380 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

    Simple one today...

Question 6: name one of Santa's original reindeer (excluding Rudolph)

just to clarify, that's the eight reindeer mentioned in A Visit from St. Nicholas. You know, 'Twas the Night Before Christmas...

Great game @Electric Nitwit really enjoying it.

Same as me, despite having seen most of them - films are so not my thing!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,380 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

I think everyone in the Christmas forum knew them all :P

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,380 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

Geography today, and a bit of a trickier one...

Question 7: name a country that contains the letters SANTA (yes, two As)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,380 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

    Reminder for @Aisling(",)

Still time, if you're quick 🙂

Feck I'll throw a guess in but ended up losing my plans today

So I believe there are 12 possible answers to this question...

...and all of them were given!

Quite extraordinary work, some very obscure answers, some very low scores...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,380 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

USA is the sheep, but only 6. Barna and Edser pick up some great aces, while our leader Aisling slips up by misspelling Tanzania

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,380 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

Which means we have a new leader in guiri. It's all very close at the top though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,230 ✭✭✭StrawbsM

Don’t forget I’ll be missing the last few days of this so I shouldn’t be classed as a contender for the wooden spoon.

Those 40+ scorers can fight for that title 😂

I freeze at anything geography related. I just can't think 😁

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,380 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

Back to pictures today, and best selling toys

Question 8: the toys below were each the top sellers one Christmas. Name one

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,380 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

Going to be early today as everyone's in and my dinner is in the oven! So, today's answers...

Stretch Armstrong (1976), Optimus Prime (1989, I did accept Transformers), Buzz Lightyear (1996), Tamagotchi (1997)

Furby (2000), Beyblades (2003), Iggle Piggle, from In The Night Garden (2008), Hatchimals (2016)

No one got Hatchimals, but all the others were given. By how many though...?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,380 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

OK, this is getting silly. Great spread again, triple sheep. Good news for aaron and Heidi

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,380 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

So still minor shuffling, and very close at the top

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 27,641 Mod ✭✭✭✭Posy

I was toying (!) with saying tamagochi and beating myself up for not, but then I realised it would have made no difference to my score anyway! 😂

I never heard of Beyblades before.

Me neither. They look like a type of fidget spinner! 🤨

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,528 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

That's what I was going to go for! I only recognised three of them, and it turns out one of those was wrong...... I think I dodged a bullet there!!

    Morning all

Today, I'm thinking about food. Neven Maguire (Irish Celebrity Chef, according to Wikipedia!) has a book in which he gives a christmas pudding recipe that was handed down to him. "In my opinion, no one makes Christmas pudding as good as my Auntie Maureen"

Question 9: Give one ingredient in the Christmas pudding recipe in Neven Maguire's Perfect Irish Christmas

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,424 ✭✭✭Aisling(",)

I've never seen a pudding being made, made a pudding or eaten a pudding so this is going to be a pure guess!

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 27,641 Mod ✭✭✭✭Posy

I've never eaten one (yuk) but I have made them, and Christmas cakes, back when I could be bothered. 😂

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 7,357 Mod ✭✭✭✭HildaOgdenx

I only eat the pudding my mammy makes, so will have to guess as regards Neven's auntie's version 😁
