The 2020-21 McCorry final being played this weekend.

    Belvo playing Lansdowne.

It was split into two groups. Group A was Lansdowne, Clontarf, Belvo and Barnhall

Group B was Terenure, Old Wesley, Trinity and UCD

Now we ended up conceding all our games sadly, think for one of them most of the side was away and then an ex classmate of the team sadly took his own life. I think Wesley ended up conceding v Trinity after taking a big beating v UCD in Round 1. Clonarf's results are very surprising

    Group 1

    Clontarf 10 - Belvo 44

    Barnhall 15 - Lansdowne 42

    Lansdowne 36 Clontarf 0

    Belvo 24 Barnhall 3

    Barnhall 43 Clontarf 12

    Belvo 28 Lansdowne 24

    Group 2

    UCD 48 Wesley 0

    Trinity 27 UCD 24

    Final in Lakelands this Sunday

Academy places being confirmed at the moment

Oisin Michel is joining Connacht https://twitter.com/leinsleadernews/status/1525904117977124864

Good announcement, thought he looked good in the bits I saw of him for the 20s.

Any more word on Connacht Academy places?

I presume Matthew Devine is in (doesn't seem to be atm), and had read elsewhere they'd also signed Shane Mallon.

Don't think Connacht had any 20s reps apart from Devine, but could be wrong.

Interesting stats to note on the Academies this year:

Leinster and Munster have given a good amount of game time to some academy players, but Ulster & Connacht haven't given a minute of game time to any of their academy players thus far.

Leinster have used 7 separate academy players, for a combined 17 appearances, 8 starts. It's a total of 715 minutes of game time.

Munster have used 6 separate academy players for a combined 16 appearances, 7 starts. Combined total of 689 minutes of game time.

Rob Russell has picked up the most minutes (434), starts (5) and appearances (6) for Leinster, and has also chipped in with 6 tries. After that a handful of guys have picked up decent minutes - Chris Cosgrave (90 mins, 2 appearances, 1 start & 1 try) and John McKee (95 mins, 5 apps, 1 start & two tries).

On the Munster side - minutes are more evenly spread. Edwin Edogbo has the most appearances (6), but Patrick Campbell the most starts (3) and minutes (248).

Edogbo has 219 minutes and 2 starts, Campbell 248 minutes, 4 appearances and 3 starts and Conor Philips has 160 minutes from 2 starts. Campbell also picked up a try.

Other academy players who've gotten some minutes this year are: Leinster: Charlie Tector (1 app, 19 mins), Ben Brownlee (1 app, 19 mins), Max O'Reilly (1 start, 53 mins) & Alex Soroka (1 app, 5 mins). Munster: Cian Hurley (1 app, 30 mins), Ruadhan Quinn (2 apps, 19 mins), Fionn Gibbons (1 app, 13 mins).

Leinster have also used the most players so far this season in the URC, with 47 players appearing this year, which is one more than both Ulster & Munster who have each used 46 players. Connacht have only used 38 players so far.

I think it's 47 Munster have used as well. Should rise over next few months, 7 Senior + 8 Academy players have not played in URC this season yet.

Rowntree in his post match interview on Saturday evening said we've used 56, could have been a slip of the tongue or maybe he's including players that were involved v SA but that still wouldn't bring it up from 46/47

  • Registered Users Posts: 23,779 ✭✭✭✭phog

Didn't think of those but he might well have included them in his count

No, it's 46. I'm only counting competitive games (so just URC so far), no pre-season friendlies or the SA A game (I imagine you're including Kiran McDonald from that).

I've seen this number bandied around multiple times this year, and I genuinely don't know where he got to that number - even if you include the SA A game and the pre season friendlies against Gloucester and London Irish, the number is still just 51 (the 46 who've played in the URC plus Chris Moore, Paddy Kelly, Daniel Okeke, Tony Butler & Kiran McDonald).

It's possible he's including James French and Evan O'Connell in his numbers who were both named in match squads but didn't play, but even if he is (and including all the friendlies) it would be 53.

There are only 62 players in the full extended squad (incl academy), and indisputably all of RG Snyman, Andrew Conway, Jack Daly, Oli Morris, James French, Mark Donnelly, Darragh McSweeney, Kieran Ryan, Evan O'Connell, Ethan Coughlan and Jack Oliver haven't played.

If I count the additional squad players Leinster used in the friendly against Chile, then their players used this season climbs to 57.
