I really hope that Liverpool are not bought up by another sportswashing owner. City, Newcastle and Chelsea (who would prob be in top 4 if they were still owned by Roman) show the impact, these slimy , grimy tyrants , whose values nobody shares, can have on the sport.

If the top teams of the league are all clubs whose owners want people supporting or enjoying , so people aren’t talking about their human rights abuses, then it doesn’t say a lot for that league. EPL is now the sportswash league of choice and nobody cares because it’s normalised. Why was Roman thrown out, he was in good company , it’s not like these Arab states are all of a sudden better, it’s just it doesn’t impact us like the Russian invasion of ukraine so nobody cares and as such the corrupt EPL doesn’t act. What the Chelsea situation showed was that they can make changes to who can own clubs when the will is there to do it.

Most neutral, remotely educated fans will now end up supporting or cheering on non sportswashed v sportswashed. I wanted Liverpool to win the league ahead of city, that’s a corruption of my United fan instinct and just doesn’t feel right.

Can’t be called sour grapes and even when people say “you are butt hurt” or some mind numbingly thick Sarah Palin supporteresque response to defend these clubs, the fact still stands, these clubs are being funded to deflect from human rights abuses. That’s next level abuse of clubs (using them for this purpose) and it’s allowed to be normalised as people glowingly talk about what these abominations bring to the sport.

Pep and those who facilitate , work and benefit from it are a disgrace. There’s no debate to be had, but them legitimatising these clubs is just one of many examples of how money can corrupt anything.

The gall of city to suggest Klopp was racist by what he said. Really is a wonderful time/age when Trump and Putin and sports-washing owners with deplorable Human rights CVS can throw any mud anybodys way with a straight face and worse still, the idiotic media laps it up and runs with it.

Sports fans and Boiling frog in a pot comes to mind. Unfortunately a lot of fans just don’t care or don’t understand why it’s a problem. You need only look at where the World Cup is happening and the damage it’s done to clubs/leagues and impact on players to see how ignoring these sportswashing people can have on the sport.

    Rant over.

Anyone want to try and make a stab at a midpoint team of the season?

With little thought, I'd go with something like this

    Alisson

    Trippier saliba

    Rodri

    Almiron KDB Odegaard Maddison

    Kane Haaland

I'm actually giving up there as I don't think there has been any stand out LBs.

This is the biggest abomination ever posted here.

Without giving it too much thought, I’d go for:

    Alisson

    Trippier—-Saliba—-Botman—-Antonee Robinson

    Rodri—-Guimaraes

    Almiron—-De Bruyne—-Foden

    Haaland

I’d nearly have Konate in there instead of Botman even though he’s only played a couple of games, he’s just that good.

    G - Pope

    RB - Trippier

    CB - Saliba

    CB - Martinez

LB - Burn? (As @Fitz* says pretty chronic lack of stand out LB injury issues have affected most LB's unless my brains fecked - Burn, Mykolenko and Struijk are the only LB's who've played regularly.)

    DM - Xhaka

    CM - KDB

    CM - Eriksen

    RM - Almiron

    LM - Trossard

    ST - Haaland.

Why so? I mean, I think the formation likely has 1 player too many - in that the listed team needs another CB and LB, which would put it at 12. But add those two positions, and cut Kane, and it feels like a reasonably decent representation of the season. Think I'd maybe add Schar for CB, and Cancelo for LB.

    ----------------Alisson

    Tripper -- Saliba -- Schar -- Cancelo

    ----------------Rodri

    ------------KDB---Odegaard

    -----Almiron---------Maddison

    --------------Haaland

When has a team of the year/season ever not been in some sort of formation? There's not even 2 centre backs like 😅

I was being facetious in a bit of football clichés style btw. Not really having a go.

What's the point of VAR if it's not going to give a penalty for that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,538 ✭✭✭Comic Book Guy

How is that not a penalty in the Brighton Villa game?! Digne misses the ball and kicks thru the back of March

How is Cancelo not the stand out left back of the season?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,952 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

And they gave Arsenal a penalty in the Liverpool game for a tip on the back of the leg. If you set the bar there then the one today is 100% a penalty.

    It's just the inconsistency again.

I still think of him as a right back. Always forget he plays left now.

Sky's fawning over influencers is embarrassing. I had no idea who I Show Speed was before these last few days.

No Idea who he is myself so I had a quick look at his Youtube page and he gets anywhere from 10 to 50 times more viewers per his videos than videos on Sky Sports Youtube page

Sky looking and hoping to get some of his viewers clicks on them.

Hasn’t been as effective this season, in my opinion.

im a city fan and cancelo been poor this season. Just reading a thread on him on city site were hes being abs slated. His ff points and the odd fancy assist mask his contribution and im sure hes being phoning it in last few weeks with wc on horizon.

He's having a really poor season to be fair,

Some of his defending has been horrible but his names not Trent so its not been mentioned much ,

I'd put Xhaka in any team of the season so far for sure. He's been absolutely outstanding so far for Arsenal.

World cup break an absolute godsend for Potter, Chelsea have been as bad as I've ever seen them recently, totally lost, no fight and they seem utterly directionless, if it weren't for the break I think Potter would be gone, I just can't see where the come back would come from and I could just see them snowballing further down the table.

Soundbites from the club suggest they're backing him but we've all heard that before and that would soon change if results keep going south, which they would do if not for the break imo.

Surely Garnacho will move to one of the bigger teams in January

Ronaldo is right about ETH’s lack of judgement..,,ETH made Ronaldo captain last weekend.

Ronaldo crying to the media - Piers Morgan - he should just man up, and leave the club with a little dignity - we alll get old and talent wanes. He should be gratefull for the career he had, and the millions made.

The greatest goalscorer that the game has ever seen, who carried Manchester United last season, is quite right to speak out against the disgraceful way he has been treated by the club. Terrible appointments, awful owners - who United fans are back to forgiving until the inevitable top 4 tilt goes pear-shaped and the green and gold scarves get dusted off - ungrateful teammates, and a fanbase with the shortest memories in football. It's all going to be tackled and it's going to be glorious.
