Mild Hybrid wasn’t enough for customers. I’ve seen a decent share of their target owners move to the Yaris if the don’t want a crossover or over to Hyundai instead. People that want to stick with Ford went for the Puma instead.

Since you own one you may know. How can you tell what HP each one is like yours is the 125 while most are the 100.

I know the new 125hp models are mild hybrid but if looking for a older car how can you tell rather than listen to what the seller says.

You can see it on reg check sites like this one:

Don’t need to pay, it’ll say it at the top. Just checked mine to make sure it worked - 125PS.

As far as I am aware, it’s just the Black / Red editions that were 125PS.

Remapped mine to 158 (approx) from this site:

I’m just starting to look at cars, was going to be the new Civic but tempted by an ST now. Not sure if / when I’ll be selling but DM me and I can let you know.

More a nostalgic post. My first car was a Fiesta van. A 1990 model. Seven years old when I bought it at an auction. Spoilers etc. Looked great. I quickly graduated to a red version. Brand new in 1998. Loved them. I have driven rental saloon versions over the last few years. A great drive. Always felt good. The Fiesta will be missed.

Fiesta vans were a big thing back then. The tax was less on them so people bought them as a cheap car.

It's a shame, as they were great cars.

Ford are in an odd place right now. I'm not sure what they are thinking.

I hope this kills Ford - or at least comes close enough to killing them. It's unforgivable, abandoning decent, worthy cars like the Fiesta, Focus and Mondeo, in favour of pointless, ugly wastes of space like the Kuga and the Puma. The SUV/crossover craze can't go on forever. At some point, the fools who buy them will realise that they're being conned.

I remember being a front seat passenger in a 1979 Chevy Impala that T-Boned (as the yanks say) a canary yellow Mk 1 Fiesta in the states back in the 80s. It literally folded in half. How the driver came out of it with just a slightly split head I'll never know. My dad had an automatic Mk 3 about 30 years ago. It was one of the biggest heaps of shyte I ever travelled in. My gf had a Mk 5 up until about 8 years ago and funnily enough I thought it felt like a fairly solid car to drive. I love the old XR2s but I'd imagine they'll be skyrocketing in price even more now.

What'll @Henry Ford III buy next...

I hope you're right, but it's a long shot. The simple thing is, people buy those bloated monstrosities for their safety (pedestrians notwithstanding). God forbid you only bought a Focus, Golf or Megane and get T-boned by some tosser in a Karenpanzer. 😕

I think Ford in Europe is a complete mess now and it’s symptomatic of their problems when they are going to discard such a strong household name like this. Built up over decades.

Their range is awful, I like the Focus but looks like that’s going to be let wither on the vine too. The Kuga is uglier with the newest generated model. The Puma isn’t bad but it’s nothing special and certainly is nothing that Toyota or Hyundai are doing better. They still have a big dealer network in Ireland but that can’t last as it slips down the sales rankings.

Most of the “SUVs” are jacked up small hatches anyhow. Unless it’s something like a Land cruiser or Discovery the size differential isn’t a massive deal

I've one of those 125ps models as well (18), that remap is interesting. Is the whole process just a matter of plugging in the magic box & would you recommend it? Presume it can be reversed if needed also?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 458 ✭✭Tech_Head

There’s a few more steps to begin with. You use the device to pull the original map for the car and upload to their servers via PC. Once done, you download their version to the device and into the car. After this, you can swap back and forth in less than 5min so easy to restore to original if and when needed. Definitely worthwhile, was pleasantly surprised at the difference.

First car I drove, and later owned through inheritance, was a first gen 1983, 998cc or something. Brilliant car, light and quick. Not fast, though.

Second main car for me was a 00 Ghia. Bulletproof engine. Bugger all maintenance/repairs except standard wear stuff. But underbody rust did for it, and not even my previously trusted bodywork guy would do it. I had nursed it for 22 years, but too much hassle for him.

    I salute the Fiesta!

I agree that the Fiesta is a well performing and cheap to run car that’s more enjoyable to drive than a Yaris but could the problems not stem from it being a cheap to get 16 year old Yaris?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,911 ✭✭✭✭road_high

Rust is/was a major issue on older fiestas and fords in general.

Never thought I’d say this but Opels range is far more appealing now than Fords. Give me a Corsa any day over the fiesta

I'm sure if Ford got the investment and access to drivetrains from the Stellantis group then they would like Opel too.

Or an Insignia over a Mondeo because you can not get a Mondeo now lol. An Astra over a Focus. A real pity about the Focus as the original was so game changing. The brother had one a 5 door.

They lost there way do with the following generations. I really think once Ford started trying to be VW it all started to wrong for them. They should have stayed to being Ford, innovative and not afraid to rock the boat. They did come out with a few more gems like the S-Max and C-Max and the last two Mondeos but by then it was too little too late.

As for Vans anyone notice the latest VW Caddy is basically a Ford Transit Connect and looks so cheap. It does not look like a VW at all inside or outside. A pity as the Caddy used to be a great little van.

It's actually the Transit Connect that is based on the Caddy platform.

    My first car.

I'm sure many people can say that..

My work got one of those new Caddy’s and it feels very VW inside, its got the software glitches just like a Golf, infuriatingly counterintuitive touch controls for things like lighting and heating too, and in VW tradition it has a 5 speed box with the 2.0 TDI engine detuned to 75bhp. Couldn’t be more of a VW. They also have Berlingo/Partner/Connect and to be fair the Caddy is miles ahead of those.

That is good. It does shares parts with the Ford Connect though does it not? It looks very Ford from the rear not VW like at all.

Actually it's the other way around than I thought but I have go say it looks better as a Ford,

The third-generation Tourneo Connect for the European market was released in October 2021 as a rebadged and restyled fourth-generation Volkswagen Caddy.[32]

So what are Ford dealers going to be selling going forward? Puma, Kuga mustang E and a few commercials? I can understand them getting out of classes that are less popular but replacing them with nothing sounds like a road to oblivion. They really appear to be retracting to a North American only brand now.

Me too, inherited a Mk 2 1983 in 1989, had it until 1996. Learned a lot about car internals during its many trips to the local mechanic 🙂

They sell a lot of commercials.

I'm sure some new models will appear too.
