AIB Banking: Adding new payee for n26 IBAN?

I'm new to AIB's online banking service, I want to add an n26 account, Irish based with DE IBAN, but it won't accept it as an Irish payee.

Also it seems you can't save non Irish payees ? Is this IBAN discrimination?

If it has a DE IBAN, then it is German based, select Germany as beneficary country

I'll be trying this myself once I receive my bank card. Seems I need it to use the card reader. I have an old Ulster Bank one that I'll just use. But can payees not be added by using your phone to confirm?

I have to confirm on my phone when I log in, so do I need my phone and a card reader to add a payee?

Yes, but it's an irish based account, its ridiculous that you cant save "international" payees and have to do the whole rigmarole with the card reader every time you want to do a transfer....

What makes you think it's an Irish based account? The money is held by a German company, it's subject to German laws. If N26 went under, you'd be recovering your money via the German banking guarantee, not the Irish one

Well that sounds a bit silly. My wife and I have a joint account with a standing order to each of our own N26 accounts every week.

I'm not going to do it manually every week. I might do a standing order to our own CU accounts and then from there a standing order to N26 as they don't have an issue with it.

I've a weekly standing order set up from PTSB to N26 no problem. So it's possible from an Irish bank. I'd be surprised if AIB don't give the option.

I've a standing order from my AIB account to my N26 account. All set up via Internet banking quite easily.

OP, it is a German Bank account. Unfortunately, AIB forces you to always use the card reader for international accounts.

Grand. That's what I want. Don't mind using card reader to set it up initially.

Just an update on this. I received my bank card today and was able to set up a standing order to my N26 no problem, using the card reader.

That's just going straight to add a new standing order. I could not add the IBAN as a payee. So if I was doing one off payments, I'd still need the card reader.
