I'm surprised they lasted this long. Long before Brexit we started having problems with stock in the Irish stores.

They should have made a fortune during COVID-19. But just abandoned ship.

Kilkenny store made a similar announcement couple of weeks ago

Jervis one closed last year so that leaves only one in town, in the ilac

Did you see the documentary about Argos the other night? Apparenty they're closing branches all over the UK and moving into Sainsburys. As that option isn't open in the Republic and their online presence is pretty ****, I'd say Argos will not remain in Ireland

Arklow closed a couple of months ago. I was in the one in Omni last week for the first time in years and it looks like it is running down too, only two staff that I could see, no tills operating, no stock on display. Sad to see but I think the growth of online shopping, particularly Amazon, in Ireland, has sounded the death knell for Argos, their shipping is too dear.

The ones in Blanchardstown and Dunshaughlin both close at 6/7pm on "late nights" which makes it next to impossible to get to after work so I've stopped thinking of it as an option if I need random stuff during the week

Didn't even know there was an Argos in Dunshaughlin?

I was a frequent customer but it's rare now that I can't get an item cheaper or quicker than Argos. I can't remember the last time I've used them to be honest.

It's circling the drain. They were bought by a company who didn't know what to do with it. They've never recovered from that.

Seems like they are big trouble in the UK as well.

    I'm guessing they mean Ashbourne.

I still use them quite a bit. Easily the fastest way for me to get something (reserve and collect 5 mins later, pulling up right by the door on my motorbike). It's fairly rare that I find the same item for cheaper in a bricks and mortar store.

Yep when I used to go to the office every day I would regularly visit Argos for the odd bargain. Working from home, I could do without the drive into town...

When are people expecting Argos (and others) to start with their Black Friday offers? Need a new TV as soon as possible but hoping to hold off and see what offers come out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,694 ✭✭✭✭Flinty997

I wouldn't expect them to have any stock of anything they put on sale.

The Argos in Kilkenny is also closing.

Wonder if they are closing them as leases come up for renewal. Given they can't integrate them into Sainsbury stores it seems its only a matter of time before they exit the market.

The business here could have been viable. It's an easy way to get your hands on branded goods quickly. Amazon is not cheap and is slowly turning into an Aliexpress. Also nobody has time to trudge around bricks and mortar stores looking for something specific.

However, the Argos management team (or lack of) have run the Irish business into the ground.

They've abandoned it, closing stores, starving Irish stores of stock, zero investment in technology, no proper oversight of the items listed - and worst of all, completely ignoring their customers and the many complaints.

I feel sorry for the staff, looks like a depressing place to work these days.

Yup the ones I've been into of late have nobody in them and very sparse with the display stock in store.

Argos will always be held dearly in my heart, bought my wife's engagement ring there (a temporary one/placeholder anyway from what was then the Elizabeth Duke counter) lol. She still has it somewhere, was €20 from memory.

At the time was very suprised how much money you could spend on a ring there.

Dont even think they have jewellery on display anymore there.

Is it possible to cancel a reservation? I reserved two of the same item. Want to cancel and reserve only one. Don't want to reduce steck availability of the item by three

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,282 ✭✭✭TheRona

I'd say you could probably go in and get the person at the counter to only put through one for you with your existing reservation.

Does anyone know if Argos honour the price of an item when you reserved it. Something I had to order in has now gone up in price and I'm wondering will I bother going to collect it if they won't give it to me at the lower price.
