    Get Set Go - €422.53

    AIG - € 436.21

For my sins I changed from a 171 Leon Fr to an 10 BMW 520d in the past year (lordy insurers don't like older cars)

40 year old with full no claims.

All quotes fully comp with step back, driving of other cars, breakdown assist

    Renewal AIG- 680

    AIG Website - 734

    Aviva - 1050

    FBD - 900

    123 - 775

    Supervalu - 837

    Campion - 673 (via Zurich)

    Zurich - 669

    Bank of Ireland - 1375

    Liberty - 680

    GetSetGo - 811

Quote Devil 665 via Zurich - dropped to €650 after "talking to his supervisor" - so just went with that.

The 171 Seat was under 400 last year 😫

Always ring a real person and haggle, make up imaginary quotes for them to match.

Last year chill broker/Allianz 360 after haggle

Renewal 410 then down to 360 after haggle. Said quote was today only!

Not getting better online after a couple of hours but some insurers to ring back.

Typically I add additional driver to try reduce quote.

I may try get them to "match" 340, but cover is not great comprehensive but breakdown is a max of 30km towing!.

In terms of changing address I moved home twice more than a year ago and both times cost for new address was excessive so I moved insurer. Lucky I was with a broker who handled all the move. New address was say 100 euro more but moving was only 50 so I saved 50 each time with a 15 minute phone call. I believe some insurers assume/know when you move address you probably won't switch insurer and the new quote is given based on zero discounts and basically ripoff. I was not going to pay 30% extra annual insurance for a new address for 3 months. Totally crazy quote and new address is not in a bad area. It's just arm chancing by insurer. So put some value in being with a broker who can handle switching but still shop around and haggle with broker and insurers. Brokers can also rip you off when they say they have your best interests at heart.

    Age: 41

    Years driving: 16

Car: '07 Honda Civic 1.8 SES

    NCB: 15 years

    Claims: 0

    Points: 0

    Cover: Fully comp

    Provider: 123

That's the missus, and I'm named driver on full license

    Previous years cost/best prices:

    2016 Axa €520

    2017 Allianz €522

    2018 axa €547

    2019 its4women €413

    2020 123.ie €414

    2021 123.ie €384

    This years quotes:

    123 renewal €428

    Axa €792

    Aviva wouldn't quote me

    Chill €490 via ivernia

An post €355 Fully comp. with noclaim protection. So went with that

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,286 ✭✭✭DaveyDave

So I couldn't seem to find my quote for the Born in my emails and the lowest new quote I got the week of renewal was €530 with AXA but it didn't recognize my reg and selecting the car manually I couldn't purchase it without the reg being recognised. Called them up and it was €420.

Funny they always push you to call and offer big online discounts, I only called due to the reg not being recognised and suddenly there's €110 off the price...

It's always worth calling whatever you are negotiating. Whether it be BB provider, energy provider or insurances of any type.

House insurance is due next month. Will be calling round for a few quotes, then calling existing insurer and asking them to match lowest quite got minus 50 euro and see what they do.

I am expecting higher quotes as have reviewed the rebuild costs and we are defo under insured as are most of the country I'd say!

How long were you waiting for the car? They're full EV aren't they?

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,286 ✭✭✭DaveyDave

6 month wait, yeah it's a full EV, same platform as the ID.3. As it's a 'new' car under the Cupra brand they were building the first 100 or so units to be delivered this year so didn't have to wait as long as the ID.3, similar with the new ID.5.

Nice, maybe something worth looking at when the PCP is finishing.

Indeed, and my young lad just passed his test AND changed to 9 yr newer car:

    Age: 19

    Licence: Full

    NCB: 1 year

Car : 2017 Focus 1.5 Tdci ST Line (valued at €17,500)

    Cost: € 1,580 Full Compl

(2021 insurance was €2450 for TPO on a 2008 1.4 Astra valued at € 2,200. Renewal notice on it was €1,880)

So newer, more expensive car, higher value: cheaper insurance.

Is it policy for 123.ie to not engage with any further discounts than what they list on the renewal?

They specifically say do not ring ie. Via Phone it's this price, online its XXX price.

I rang anyways and they didnt budge. It ended up being the cheapest unfortunately but always looked for forward to them knocking a few quid off the renewal.

Something must have changed with 123

Yea, it's winter flood time, time for the motorist to refill the coffers of the household claims.

    Hi.

An Post can not give me even ballpark charged for adding L drivers for a day or longer.

123 have changed rules and are now charging a minimum of 27 per shot.

Has anyone experience of charges for adding L drivers for 1 day periods with an post?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,964 ✭✭✭Andrea B.

Would not budge for me + told me the "reduced" quote was for online renewal, so I would have to go that route.

Fairly sickened by the lot of them being given the public to milk.

Renewal time ...161 auto Skoda Superb 2.0 D

AIG renewal 353.10, which is up from 345.10 last yr, with limited work driving covered, fully comp, no points, penalties, Full no claims 10+ yrs.

Called them to ask for reason for increase and was told insurance is dearer this yr, that despite all the work in bringing claims down.

priced one other firm but they were considerably dearer, will probably stick with AIG, as it includes golf cover for clubs etc

Anyone know is a 14 day cooling off period mandatory across all insurers? And if you cancel can they only charge you for X days of insurance or do they lump on a hefty admin fee for doing so as well?

My renewal off is 506 euro with Chill. So far the closest Ive found is Axa at 550, might be able to get that down further with the 10% discount Credit Union offer, will ring them to find out. All the others I have tried are an absolute joke

-Its4Women 768 and it doesnt include road assist

    -Alliianz 934

    -123ie 958

    -Bank of Ireland 1,235

    -An Post 1,173

Any suggestions of who else I could try? Im been driven around the bend spending time filling out online forms then for it to come back with a quote of over a grand.

Sending details of my premiums with RSA through Bank of Ireland over the past four years.

    2019                      €398.01

    2020                      €425.47

    2021                      €468.02

    2022                      €468.01

    2023                      €751.07 (Renewal Notice)

I haven't been given any logical explanation for the 61% increase this year.

NB. I am driving the same vehicle since 2018 with the same level of cover and have full no claims bonus.

This is worrying , i am with RSA Bank of Ireland, similar to yours gone up abit the last 4 years but €468 to €751!, my insurance is up 17th January so waiting for renewal quote.

My problem will be to get quotes on my car being a 1998 that's why I've stayed with Bank of Ireland for years.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,618 ✭✭✭ILikeBoats

123.ie just sent me 50 euro All4One card because I went with them this year.

Fúckers, I'm with them years and they never sent me anything ever except a renewal each year.

    aviva 478 renewal

called them & got it to 436

is there any chance of another reduction with a second call?

I've quotes of 373 with allianz, 355 with fbd, 292 with its4w. Want to stay with aviva really to get the young fella going next year... will i have to suck it up?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,315 ✭✭✭CoBo55

With a 292 figure in your hand I'd be ringing them back, that's a great price.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,299 ✭✭✭SCOOP 64

Renewed my one last week with Aviva, €430 down to €380, told them i got quote with Axe , they matched it .

But that quote for €292, doubt they will match that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,060 ✭✭✭Sexual Chocolate

With Bank of Ireland about 4 years. This year quote is about 500 more from 650 last year. And is the only company who has quoted me over 1000 so far. Will be shopping around properly next week but so far is seems Axa and 123.ie are front runners.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,299 ✭✭✭SCOOP 64

Our second car is with Bank of Ireland (RSA) a old 98 Astra G, been with them a while as its hard to get quotes on old cars, just renewed yesterday , €490 renewal quote ,after telephone conversation down to €430, thought it might be more this year as others also have received hikes with RSA.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,687 ✭✭✭Signore Fancy Pants

This years renewal, no vehicle change, no accidents etc.

Renewal with Allianz is up €5.68 LOL

The way it was put to me regarding my increase was supposedly something to do with a law that came in last July about insurance companies not rewarding customers already with them when it comes to renewal time so as to give other companies an equal opportunity. Biggest load of bollocks I've ever heard.

It also annoys me as well that nobody is willing to take into account that I have a Ghost fitted to the car 🤷‍♂️

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,060 ✭✭✭Sexual Chocolate

    2017 Focus ST TDCi

Fully comp Bank of Ireland prestige policy.

    With them since 2019

20,21 & 22 prices have all ranged between 615 - 653 with the latter being the most recent figure. BOI actually tells you on renewal the previous prices.

    This year's renewal......€1039. Yep a 60% increase.

Was adviced to get a quote via the sales team and that was €1004.

After some shopping around I've got the following :

All quotes at the very minimum require full NCB protection.

FBD €920 (Sales person was adament I wouldn't do better 😂)

    Chill €773 (Axa)

    123.ie €770

    AA €845

    GoSetGo €795

    Aviva €845

    An Post €864

Liberty €579 and €735 with customized options

GMIB €715 (axa) was higher before phone call

Axa €780 then €685 after phone call

Cover in a click €615 (Axa)

Going to see if Axa are willing to match the cover in a click quote considering it's their own as well. Only difference seems to be driving of other cars is fully comp with Axa themselves. See what happens but either way my middle finger goes to Bank of Ireland. 🖕🏼

There's a few more to contact but First Ireland will be avoided altogether regardless of price.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 728 ✭✭✭JIdontknow

My BOI Car Insurance Renewal also gone up approx. 55-60%. New customer quote gets it down (There doesn't seem to be a problem with this, I did it last year or the year before and they transferred the documents across) but still a little higher than last years premium. So far Allianz seems to be the cheapest but still shopping around.

Changed from a 2012 VW Golf to a 181 Toyota Auris and Champion charged me E169 because its a more expensive car (E570 for the year so almost 1/4)

Checked BOI just too see and a year with them is E584, wheres Champion is now E740

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,847 ✭✭✭jeffk

Phonecall today to say because from 1.2 to 1.8 as well

Funny enough the 1.2 was a turbo and like a rocket compared too the 1.8 with all the safety etc stuff

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 241 ✭✭easyvision

2022 Golf GTD, 4 years no claims discount, 1 claim in 2019 (added partner reduces prices a bit)

Cheapest so far is Aviva 426, next is 490 (with AXA - renewal is 570 with same details, thought this was outlawed?) Rang up AXA, they will not budge on the 490 price inc breakdown. I said I got cheaper with Aviva by 70, didnt want to know me, goodbye! Yet I hear of insurance companies manually adjusting prices for people, in all my years that Ive asked no insurance company will ever match a quote i get even by 50, dunno what Im doing wrong.....

Id like to stick with AXA for the 4c off a litre in Circle K

Everyone else is 200-800 dearer. Tried most of them, Liberty, Zurich, AIG, Allianz, FBD (wont quote online - I know it will be dearer, same for An post), Its 4women, Kennco, AIB insurance

If anyone has a Aviva discount code for online let me know ;)

Does anyone know if accepting a larger excess ( say 600 instead of 300 ) would reduce the premium by much -if at all ?

Footnote- Last year got insurance with RSA for 415 .This year I got a spread of quotes through Chill -RSA were the dearest at 1548 ..same everything.

How can this make any sense ?

I have the privilege of my renewal this month and my quote for renewing is €200 more than last year, I’m baffled 😮 I’ve gotten a few quotes and there are all similar quotes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,060 ✭✭✭Sexual Chocolate

Axa reduced their quote to €680 and after asking me if anyone I live with is with Axa it was dropped a further €70 so went ahead with that. Happy out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,580 ✭✭✭jmreire

Seems to be heading back to horror story days of 2015 /16 /17 when motor insurance costs went through the roof. This despite all the supposed court claims and costs reduction changes. My insurance is not due until May, but what I'm reading here is not encouraging. Neither was the experience of a friend of mine whose cover is up this month. The quote was pretty much the same as last year, but when he went into the details, he discovered that a lot of what was covered as standard in last years insurance, was not standard any longer. All the "Extras" were available, but at a price. Driving other cars? Yes €€€. Key replacement? Yes €€€. Breakdown cover? Yes €€€ and so on and so on. Anyone else experienced this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,009 ✭✭✭Gen.Zhukov

For anyone checking online quotes, I can highly recommend AIG. They wouldn't have been on my radar before and I stumbled across them just as I was getting a pain in my hoop filling in the online quotes. Got a great price and changed over to them

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,315 ✭✭✭CoBo55

How much? Age, car etc would help, looks like we have to start shopping around again.

Second the AIG recommendation. My renewal quote (Liberty via Chill) was €520, I paid 4-something last year. Got a quote from AIG for €377.

Male 41; Full Irish; 20 years NCB; No penalty points, claims or convictions; 2011 Toyota Avensis 2.0 D4D

Renewal for comprehensive cover with Zurich: €467. Last years premium for like for like cover with Zurich was €390.

Went online and got a like for like quote of Zurich of €404. Only thing is that it will not allow me to proceed and take that cover as its copping that I am a customer with them already by the license number I provide. I am directed to call them which I did this evening.

Told her that I was getting an online quote of €404 as a new customer and she said that would be a new customer only discount. Told her I was aggrieved that they could not honour the same price for me being a loyal customer and I was getting a quote of €416 from Aviva (which I am). She said best she could do was €420. I said I won't go with that out of principle. She asked if she would lapse my policy. I said not to just yet.

Was wondering after if I called them back and asked them to lapse my policy would it allow me to proceed with the quote for €404 online as a new customer? Anybody ever come across this? Otherwise I'll likely go with Allianz.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,309 ✭✭✭✭wotzgoingon

Yes you can do that. Sign up as a new customer after your old policy ends but it is more difficult as you have to give them your NCB proof and what ever else they ask for as a new customer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,097 ✭✭✭johndaman66

I was sort of gathering that I'd need to send them on their own NCB proof, copy of drivers license etc either way. Mores to the point I do not want to go without cover as using my car everyday. Your saying I would I need to wait until after my current policy ends with them on the 1st of March (not desirable to me for the afore mentioned reason)? The whole thing is a bit silly really.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,315 ✭✭✭CoBo55

I wouldn't go lapsing your policy as it could be construed as a policy being cancelled which is a disaster. I'd go with Aviva effective from the 2nd.
