All this talk of retaking Kherson but there's never any analysis on the possibility of retaking Donetsk. Ukraine have a bit of land to retake before they can even think of taking the city yet they're right on the outskirts of Donetsk.

Is the reason being Russian are throwing huge numbers on the attack here so Ukraine have no choice but to focus on defense rather then attack?

I'm on the verge of a site ban. Please don't rage bait me, I'm easily triggered especially late at night!

Nonsense...at the very least once the Russians are fucked off back over the border the natural resources Ukraine has will be exploited by the USA and EU for billions of dollars and Ukraine will be just fine.

Their people will take longer to recover but they will and future generations will take pride in the fact that their parents and grandparents fought off the Russians to keep their country free.

So sad to hear we're missing out on the true reality.

A $60bn per-year army struggling to make in-roads against a $2bn a year army after the guts of a year? All well and good to cry "But NATO", "But the US", but all the aid in the world can't make up for a) decades of military expenditure gulf and b) will to fight.

So, as it turns out, Russia's 60bn a year is probably 60% lost to corruption, and an even further amount lost to sheer ineptitude. At the end of the day, they're trying to spend what actually filters down to the military on a colossal armed forces, like trying to make a single butter packet spread across 10 slices of toast.

Meanwhile, Ukraine was focusing on a core professional military, investing in training, and making the most of what it has, western style. They understand the days of brute force WW2 style are decades gone, and it shows.

The Russian economy in tatters, their international standing reduced to pariah status, their future utterly destroyed.

The entire world laughing in amazement at how the Russian army is basically a rotten, decrepit structure riddled with corruption and ineptitude, the whole world now knowing that if NATO ever got involved, the Russian army would be pulverized and destroyed in about 2 hours with the wave of a finger.

The USA cannot believe it's fortune - Russia is being destroyed on the ground, in conventional warfare, by a Ukrainian army dwarfed by Russia. All they have to do is provide limited equipment, and watch the worlds "second army" be annihilated by a second world country.

What an investment. They throw the equivalent of pocket change at Ukraine, and watch as Russia is embarrassed, defeated, out-smarted, and shown up for the absolute joke that they are, a medieval society of peasants and lords.

It shouldn't come as any great shock - Russia performed absolutely embarrasingly poorly against the Georgian military a decade ago, which was even radically more minuscule than Ukraine's armed forces are. Couldn't even establish air dominance in a battle of a hammer and a glass nail.

If Russia wasn't able to rattle the nuclear sabre, it would have been ground into dust on day one.

If that's your definition of Ukraine losing, I'd absolutely love to hear the criteria for how Russia is winning.

I said African nations that support Russia like South Africa

Lavrof just been to Uganda Ethiopia and Republic of the Congo

There support needs to be sanctioned

This is not the whole of africa

It's amazing that these African countries are so comfortable cosying up to Russia, a country which is so openly racist as to regularly throw out the n word on prime time TV and clearly views anyone not white as even less subhuman than they do Ukrainians.

I don't want to put words in the above posters mouth but I took his post to mean that even if Ukraine pushes Russia out and wins the fighting war , they still lose. I strongly believe that Ukraine will win the war in the traditional sense bar some major escalation by Russia. Thousands of their young men and women dead, country incredibly damaged and even with Western help and money will take a long time to rebuild. While lots of Russian money has been frozen or seized, I'm not sure if the majority of that money will be made available to rebuild the country. I think it's naive to think that it will all just be handed over and even if some of it it is, there will be people in the West possibly skimming some off the top as well as corruption in Ukraine afterwards. I know a lot of money has been promised to help rebuild regions etc by the EU and other countries but it's just a drop in the ocean of what they need without the frozen assets.

I really hope I'm wrong and it's a problem for the day in the future once Rusisa has been expelled. In the meantime there are more immediate problems.

EDIT: After rereading again I am wrong in understanding what they meant. Will leave the above as is though :)

Naivety or just trolling by some posters but Russia won't stop at Ukraine

Any country who support this brutal destruction of a sovereign state is been threatened or has potential to do the same

zelensky publicly goading Wagner PMC. Obviously he's saying this for a reason. What's the psyop here?

The general goal of Ukraine is to prevent a stalemate which would give Russia time to build up forces. If Wagner group attacks, they would potentially lose more than if they are defending.

Here is the analysis of the winter goals for Ukraine and Russia which I found informative:

I'm sure that was the original plan, had the "Three Day Event" worked out, but since then I imagine that there has been a major rethink, which is not to say that it has been abandoned, just shelved for a while. One thing is for sure though, Putin is not finished making trouble in the world, and never will be while he lives.

Briefly negative spot gas prices are far more to do with demand destruction and industries shutting down, than it is to do with more supply.

Negative prices for any commodity are never a good thing - its almost always a symptom of something very bad in the economy. We briefly saw negative oil on markets during covid lockdowns for a similar reason - demand annihilation.

Exactly, the point is that Russia isn't only losing its "stealing of Ukrainian territory" special sightseeing trip.

They are also losing the other "stealing of X territory" special sightseeing trips that they would have conducted but now can't.

Now, do people still think that Ukraine will be allowed fall ??

The invasion of Ukraine can be seen as a Western "red line" but it may be more accurate to see it as a trip wire connected to the real Western "red line".

You do know that article was written in 2016 and since then Zelensky was elected in 2019? Thats Zelensky's party was atually formed after 2016 with the aim of turning away from the politics of the past? That Poreschnko's party only received 8% of the vote in the latest parliamentary elections? That in the presidential elections Zelensky got a higher vte in Russian speaking areas than Ukrainian speaking areas? And that the stated position of the main Russian speaking party in Ukraine is that it "demands from the leadership of the Russian Federation to stop the aggression against Ukraine and calls on the participants of the negotiation process to immediately decide on a ceasefire and withdrawal of all Russian troops from Ukraine."?

He read every article on Ukraine on the internet and this was the best he could offer, so he's obviously not very good at this 'online debate' thing. Go easy on him.
