A stone-grey colour can look well. If you do find out who did it, you could insist they repaint it grey and apply an anti-grafitti coating.

I think this is your only option.

    And to other posters

    • Taggers & Graffiti people LOVE blank white canvasses more than any other colour. It's the best colour substrate for impact and high contrast work.
    • I hate bare blocks, but I certainly wouldn't go painting peoples wall without permission. That's vandalism. Nice aesthetically pleasing vandalism, but vandalism.

Keep us updated Mondeo, mad story.

Worst part is, the OP is now on the hook for repainting the wall forever, because it'll look crap every 3-5 years if not done repeatedly.

If you want the painters to paint it a different colour OP, you could try adding graffiti yourself.

Draw a huge phallus on it with a can of spray paint and every time they repaint it white, draw another phallus until they agree to paint it a different colour to prevent graffiti 😉

Paint stripper does what it says, but it's very corrosive and you don't want it on your skin and in DIY quantities it's very expensive. That said paint stripper then pressure washing might get it off.

could it be a men shed group in the local area that painted it??

Have you tried a power washer on it may just wash it off

It sounds like you tacitly gave him permission to do the work by allowing him to finish it. You would probably have been better off stopping him from continuing and finding out who instructed him to do the job.

Given that, I'd say your legal situation regarding compensation/rectification is fairly tenuous now.

Weird idea, and possibly not what you want, but graffitiers are far less likely to graffiti stupid stuff over actual graffiti art. Could you find a local art college and offer them your wall for a mural? "Proper" graffiti artists will usually sketch out a design and plan before starting work, so you could ask to review to make sure you like it. It would stop local scrotes just scribbling on it.

Local tidy towns group, maybe? Check if they have a FB page as they may post photos of some of the jobs they have done in your area.

That is mad, you don't live in Sandford do you?

I would personally paint a load of phalluses and boobs on it when the judging was coming up.

I've made a few calls to find out costs to remove the paint OR to have it painted over with a grey paint. Amazingly how many professionals out there are not sure if they can remove wall paint or not from walls. Seems to be a "grey area" removing wall paint....

Expecting a few call backs tomorrow to inform me if paint removal is possible. Jesus.

It’s not dude tracking , you said it’s no bodies business only the OPs. When in fact it is. The OP left a nifty me looking wall that was in breach of planning regulations.

so somebody with a bit of pride in their community took an initiative to make it look better.

the OP is concerned about graffiti, yet has no issue leaving an eyesore. Pot kettle black

Check out the street view here and see which looks better. The white wall or bare block monstrosity

Bad example, on that road where there is only natural stone or grey blocks the white stands out badly. Much more uniformed look to the road left as block.

As I said bad example, normally block walls are better rendered, dashed or painted.

Back to the OP's issue, no one should have painted his wall without his permission, now that they have they should be responsible to return it to how they found it, which is unlikely to be practical and therefore should paint it the desired colour or whatever the OP wants.

  • Bizarre, surreal and must be total maddening for you. Don't get me wrong, I believe you, but I'd love to see a picture of it.

It sounds like something out of a Laurel and Hardy sketch.

It could actually be graffiti. The infamous Blanksy

Completely missing the point of the topic, but I agree with OP. Surprised some here would rather see the wall painted.

Natural brick is a good look when kept clean. Terrible mentality to slap cheap paint on everything.

The block wall looks perfectly fine. Calling it a "monstrosity" is way OTT. 🙄

It's a block wall not brick and block walls are lovely painted, not white as its impossible to keep it clean, i would go for darker colour.

Oh OP called it brick wall in the first post. I might have missed that being clarified further.

That would make it less of a crime to paint. just less.

I'd be thrilled if someone painted my block wall 😜😉

I quite like the optical illusion art in your picture but on google street view it's just white and looks terrible imo.

I'll let you in on a little secret OP but don't tell anyone ! The painter/artist may have looked like an old man, but it was a disguise, his true identity is BANKSY. Your wall will be worth millions & zillions 🤣

There is no plaster or render on the white part either, just painted blocks. You can see the lines between them.

Got a few quotes in around the €300 mark to paint the wall a grey colour.. Some are saying because the crappy white paint is on the wall only two days that a power washer with a rotating nozzle would remove the paint. I don't have a power washer unfortunately.

It'll make some mess too, if the paint's coming off the wall it has to go somewhere!

Another problem with painted walls is they need to repainted every few years. So they've created a ongoing maintenance job and cost for you.
