This increase of personnel is a myth the target will never be achieved. Too many retirements and way too many resignations. Resignations will absolutely sky rocket too if the proposed rosters are brought in.

Hey Eire392, do you mind sharing what the proposed rosters are? I know somebody commented above but what are the proposed rosters that a newly appointed Guard would be subject to? Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 65 ✭✭Eire392

Newly appointed would be on what core is now four shifts two earlies two nights and four days off, all core units country wide on it as well as ASU. Commissioner's new proposed ones for anyone else essentially is to shaft them, move from 12 hour tours 4 on 4 off to 8 hour shifts with up to 70 odd extra days per year, reduction of night allowances. At one point on the new roster these units would work 16 days out of 17, seven days on followed by three rest days and then six on and two rest days. Bearing in mind people are going to have to come in for court on some rest days they'd have minimal time off it would push anyone out the door who realistically could go if they wanted.

Have they given any justification for this (i.e who would it help etc)? Doesn't seem to be an upside to this for anyone involved. Also what are the GRA doing to stop it?

It's not sounding too promising. A lot of negative stuff about the job here and word of mouth.

There's always a minority of people who hate every job. Go into any workplace in the country and you'll have a few employees swear blind that its the worst job in the world. I wouldn't pay too much attention to it

They are always the the loudest too. Nothing against the lads/ladies above but if I was loving my job don’t think I’d be on boards telling everyone

@JohnSmith98 ya that's very true! Good information none the less.

Thank you for your reply, the 4 on 4 off seems like a much fairer pattern than what they are trying to bring in for other members!

Anyone from batch 3 get results? Heard from someone who got his today ? Haven’t got mine yet but only did mine last Friday ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 41 Cluedo93

@king999 Got them today :) best of luck 🤞

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 66 ✭✭king999

Ya got mine there all good 👍 see physical is down for 7-11 of November… not to much waiting thought would be longer 🙈

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 41 Cluedo93

@king999 Ya much much faster than expected! I'm also in a different country so makes it harder for me. Was expecting the PCT to be end of November. I hear it's extremely hard in Ireland to get an appointment with a GP now too in such short time!

I passed the interview today and am also living abroad. Are you anticipating any issues?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 101 ✭✭macmathuna1

Just get a go cert wherever ye are living?

Yer medical will be about a week after PCT

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 66 ✭✭king999

Is pct and medical done on sane day no ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 41 Cluedo93

@WallyBoy glad to hear someone is in the same boat as me!. I emailed to ask if it's an Irish doctor that has to provide the letter which would make things easier because if not I'll have to book an extremely expensive flight home in a few days and stay for weeks to do the fitness etc. How are you feeling about it? Where roughly are you currently?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 41 Cluedo93

    @king999 I believe it's a couple of days apart

Yeah fair point. I guess as Cluedo93 mentions below, I'm unsure if it has to be an Irish GP or if any doctor will do.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6 WallyBoy

Would you mind letting me know the answer to that?

I'm feeling the same as you. Just trying to work out the logistics of things.

I’m also just after passing stage 3 and I’m looking to join any WhatsApp groups going for this recruitment

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 101 ✭✭macmathuna1

I doubt it has to be Irish doctor. The pct supervisors barely looked at it. It's just something to say you're safe to do a pct. Insurance reasons I'd say.

Medical will have to be at one of their set locations.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 41 Cluedo93

    @WallyBoy absolutely, I'll.keep.you posted :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 41 Cluedo93

Hey does anyone know what exactly this doctors note needs to say? Just that you're healthy to participate or what? Thank you:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17 Mxrrk

If you tell the doc you need a certificate of fitness they’ll check your breathing, blood pressure and blood oxygen level. Maybe weight and height, and write you a letter saying you’re good to go.

I'm part of batch 3 too , received my results yesterday. Am currently in another country at the moment so will be doing the PCT layer than the 7th-11th of Nov. If someone sets up the WhatsApp group can you let us know here so we can get added to it please? Thanks 😊

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 41 Cluedo93

@sandybyrne7 did you email them about a later start date? :)
