Trading 5 picks and 3 players for Russell Wilson then giving him a $250m contract only to take the ball out of his hands on 4th and 5 in favour of kicking a 64 yard field goal might just be the worst decision I've seen a coach make.

I suggest you watch the Seahawks last offensive play of Superbowl 49.................

  • Registered Users Posts: 15,180 ✭✭✭✭Oat23

There's a lot more to what happened at the goal line back then though. It wasn't a simple as Carroll making an awful decision. For starters, their clock management was dreadful and time was ticking down, so in a panic they ran one of their staple plays and the Patriots were expecting it. It was an all round coaching shitshow and a calamity of errors that led to it.

Hackett had all the time in the world to decide what he wanted to do last night and he asked an altitude kicker who is a coin flip over 50 and 1-8 beyond 60 to kick a 64 yarder at sea level when he had Russell Wilson at QB.

This is a very amateurish comment in hindsight.

If the Seahawks converted there Caroll automatically becomes a genius, if it's incomplete there is nothing about it but because Butler made a brilliant play it's a dreadful decision. Let's not remember that the Seahawks had only one timeout left, what happens if Lynch gets stopped? Then you have to use that last timeout. The whole world was waiting for Lynch to run with the ball, the Patriots were showing that they were selling out to stop the run.

What happens if they give the ball to Lynch twice and he fails to score. Well I'll tell you what would've happened, the press would say that Carroll should have went to the air on second down against a defensive genius like Belichick to spread out the defense on third down and save the timeout.

Pete Carroll won a Superbowl the year before. Pete Carroll won two college football national championships. Pete Carroll is one of the greatest coaches in the modern era. He's always been aggressive on offense and went for it on fourth downs inside the opponent's half long before it became a popular thing to do.

Pete Carroll took over a Seattle team which had went 4-12 and 5-11 the two seasons before he took over and built a Superbowl winning team in four years.

The stupidity is those calling that one play a horrendous decision. It's stupid people calling a coaching master stupid.

What an extraordinary over reaction. Criticising a single decision is not the same thing as calling someone stupid. I think Pete Carroll is a great coach and a great man. Great coaches make bad calls too. You're a Pats fan, I'm sure you can agree Bellicheck has made some poor decisions over the years without thinking he's stupid or somehow a bad coach?

You may not think the decision to not use Lynch from the 1 yard line was a bad call. That's fine. But many other experienced journalists and former players widely agreed it was one of if not the worst call of all time. I just happen to agree with them.

  • Registered Users Posts: 37,616 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Reporters need to write, get reaction etc. A lot of them are just about that.

Fact of the matter is it was a good call because the Patriots were expecting the run and they only had one timeout left. Butler made a great play and that gets lost in all the crap talked by those looking for clicks.

Part of the reason the best coaches are the best is they rarely if ever make mistakes. Pete Carroll didn't make a mistake calling that play on second down, it made perfect sense for multiple reasons. As I said, if the pass is caught you have a competely different narrative where Carroll is a genius for going exactly where the Patriots weren't expecting. That's from the same reporters who called it a horrendous decision.

Great game between the Chiefs and Chargers. Currently 24-17 Chiefs and Herbert got a hit and is down but looks like he was okay as he left the field. Chargers on the move right now but they've struggled since halftime. And they have to punt this time with four minutes left in the game.

  • Registered Users Posts: 37,616 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

Chiefs off to the races immediately with a big one to Edwards-Hilaire on the first play and a facemask on top of it. Just outside the 20 now and in great shape to finish it off.

2-0 and a big division win, great second half performance against a good team.

I don’t think I’ve ever posted here but Iam a big nfl fan, I’ve lived in the bay for 20 years now, big niners fan, should be another fun/frustrating season, Jimmy G will probably be in by week 4…lol Not sure how the whole thing will play out, so many caveats to the situation, it’s not easy having a good team with a rookie QB that hasn’t shown a whole lot but it’s early but people are also not very patient.

I really like KC so far, I think Mahomes has a chip on his shoulder, they are by no means perfect but I bet them for Super Bowl winners a few weeks ago and I think they will be in good shape, they are in control of the division now.

I also backed the niners a few months ago so Iam obviously an idiot, I thought they were going to snatch Brady
