I applaud Senator Craughwell for dragging this issue into the light of day and insisting that the people and the Oireachtas are fully informed of and must give their approval to any such deals. We must face reality and either accept our position as a UK protectorate or take urgent steps to be otherwise.

Been who really cares,it's hardly a big secret some of us have been taking about it for years,

It won't change anything.

Unless we pony up for the 12 fighter jets not trainer aircraft we've flown since the 70s ,

We need a proper Navy , Airforce and Army , properly equipped, with modern equipment, training and pay increase.

Expect 50 whingers to come in and tell us how were neutral,we don't want involvement in invasion or having our soldiers being sent to a war zone ,

Leaving aside the Defence aspects there is a hugely important point to be seen: who decides on the direction of the country? Is it unelected officials or the Oireachtas? Has an illegal and unconstitutional agreement been reached by civil servants?

This next one won’t happen but if the answer to the last question is yes then someone should be out the door with no pension.

That seems to be the argument: that if such agreement has been made it needed Oireachtas approval and not having that it is unconstitutional and illegal.

I'm sure it's easy to find that they are then right ? I assume they just take the hit with the large defence budget. I mean if they had a mind to they could fly around all day no one is going to stop them. Or do we call the British to get the British out of Irish airspace ?

What influance. They would do it anyway. You think the cute hoor politicians will pay when they can get it for free. It's probably something like this. Ireland will not complain about them in the Airspace on condition they also come when called in certain situations.

True but I don't know what the persons angle is. All laws have been passed so a deal is nothing to do with them. Senators can't barge into the Revenue and demand to be shown everything. It's not a constitutional issue. It would be easier to actually just ask the British.

I'm not sure.I'm happy to have the Brits keeping an eye on the Russians around our seas and skys .We cannot do it ourselves and no matter what to think about the British they are a friendly nation to us now.
