Me and missus watched and we enjoyed it. We did enjoy the Japan one as well.

I watched Absentia and really enjoyed it, I find I get really into the characters and almost feel a bit lost when the series is over, Emily Byrne, Stana Katic is so pretty and lovely smile and I really liked her colleague, cal Isaac. Same thing happened me with Homeland, was devastated when is was over as I really loved the character of Peter Quinn. Thought there was something very kind about him. Watching Terminal List now. very good. Funny how you can become so attached to people who are not real.

Watched House of Gucci, great cast and a fascinating story loosely based on the truth

Haven’t seen his new one yet but the Japan one was very enjoyable, James May is a very likeable person and funny i could watch him in anything.

Extremely late to this but I watched Palm Springs tonight and really enjoyed it. It's really funny, and sweet, and is only 91 minutes long!

Everything Must Go with Will Ferrell is a dose of black humour.

Loosely based on a Raymond Carver short story, a man’s life falls apart and he is reduced to sleeping on his front lawn surrounded by his stuff. Not fully realised and Hollywood always pulls its punches but an engaging story with some effective moments.

apple tv, not prime, but this is one of my favourite ever shows. Worth a month or two of apple tv to binge it. And there is a series 4 coming. Loved it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,427 ✭✭✭dublin49

Watching Mr Robot,Im sure it was covered way back on the thread but in case anyone is looking for an engrossing series I would give it a thumbs up,complicated enough ,genius coder with mental health issues is involved in conspiracy to destroy capitalism.Great characters led by Rami Malek who recently played Freddie Mercury.Lots of plot twists and kids tell me it only gets better as we are on series 2 and 3&4 to go.

The three Hobbit movies are now on Prime and I ploughed through them without much pleasure. Although technically impressive, these movies are not a patch on LOTR because the central quest lacks a compelling purpose to drive the narrative over eight hours of chasing and fighting. LOTR was driven by a compelling theme - to destroy the One Ring forever in the fires of Mordor which was the only sure way to prevent Sauron from dominating Middle Earth.

Why is Bilbo Baggins helping the Dwarves? They never did anything for the Hobbits and only concerned themselves with accumumlating more gold. In the novel, Bilbo is motivated by the promise of a share in the dragon's treasure but Bilbo hardly mentions this in the movies.

By disturbing the sleeping dragon, they unleash his fire and fury on the unfortunate inhabitants of Lake Town. All this mayhem just for greed? Killing the invincible dragon with a magic arrow seems a contrived McGuffin. The movies make much of the Dwarves desire to return to their native home but generations have passed an the whole venture seems misconceived especially because Thorin's role is totally confusing (rightful heir? future King? would-be tyrant? unreliable gangster?). The motives of the Elves are also ambiguous and confusing - Legolas turns into Badass and the love story between Tauriel and Kíli is never convincing.

The Hobbit could have been a fun prequel to LOTR if they treated it as a heist movie, mixing thrills with humour (Ocean's 11 in Middle Earth!). A two hour movie could focus on Bilbo's development, under Gandalf's tutelage, from a timid homebody to a resourceful, courageous and enterprising player in a daring escapade to steal the Dragon's gold. Instead, Bilbo reverts to timid homebody at the start of each movie so we watch him make this transition repeatedly.

Also irritating that these movies are said to be in UHD but I can only get HD. Why aren't all movies streamed in 4K or UHD nowadays and why is Ireland almost always limited to HD movies (except for the streamers' own productions)?

I seem to get 4K on any movie it’s available on although technically I’m signed up to prime video through Turkey so not sure if that makes any difference. Agree on the actual movies themselves, an absolute waste of time and money

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,386 ✭✭✭Wrongway1985

If you search for the movies duplicates appear on all titles, sometimes when this happens indicates one option is slightly improved quality.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,483 ✭✭✭Caquas

I think this confirms my point re. 4K in Ireland - you are getting 4k because you have VPN through Turkey. I think this has something to do with film rights in Ireland but I'm only guessing because no one seems to know (or care?).

There are duplicates of the Hobbit movies on Prime and those marked "MGM" show subtitles when the characters speak Elvish etc. . The picture quality may be somewhat better but it is not UHD / 4K.

Just watched the first episode of Mr Robot. How in earth had I never head of this before! One of the best shows I think I’ve ever seen. Intelligent, with good cast, soundtrack and production values.

And good length episodes. Looking forward to getting stuck into it.

    thanks for the recommendation

Everything Everywhere All at Once just popped up on my UK prime today. What a pleasant surprise.

Such a great little movie. Loved it.

Can't seem to see it on my own, are the Irish and UK offerings the same that's what I thought?

No, they’re not. UK has a much more extensive library. They base your region on your phone number though, so if you can get a UK number you should call them and say you’ve moved to UK. I was living in London for a long time, but couldn’t get my prime to show the UK library. It was driving me demented. And when I phoned customer services turned out was just a simple as changing my account details

May be different now, but is worth a shot

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,383 ✭✭✭S.M.B.

It's never clear if Irish Prime users won't be getting EEAaO or whether it'll appear randomly in the days to come. Unfortunately it's why I add a little UK disclaimer to my posts when I see an unexpected new addition.

Has “Elementary” vanished from Amazon Prime? I was in the middle of season 6 and it’s suddenly gone!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,290 ✭✭✭BruteStock

Al the Rocky films have been thrown up. Time for a re-watch. Rocky Balboa is a highly underrated mature and heartfelt character piece. Its just as good as the ones with Mr.T and Drago.

This is very very false info, it is indeed different now this was the case about 2 years ago not anymore at all.

There is no crossover on some titles and some delay on certain titles too we seem to still be somewhat an after thought with some new releases, Everything...Everywhere is now showing up now for instance but the UK library is not at all more extensive as it once was in comparison to here (Prime sub only, not the pay extra abilities not available here) in fact at the mo a justwatch comparison by region brings up over 1k more movie titles in Ireland than the UK equivalent.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,383 ✭✭✭S.M.B.

It's odd that there is a delay with the major titles. Tenet was added here in the UK yesterday. Is it available in Ireland yet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,386 ✭✭✭Wrongway1985

Yes it's there but jaysus I didn't think much of that fwiw.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,036 ✭✭✭youcancallmeal

Might watch it again with subtitles this time, hadn't a clue what they were saying when I saw it in the cinema

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,383 ✭✭✭S.M.B.

It's fairly low down my watch list but I might check it out at some point.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,360 ✭✭✭SuperBowserWorld

I couldn't bear to watch those movies. I really think Peter Jackson lost the plot. Awful looking.

Been watching the first 2 seasons of The Boys. Antony Starr is absolutely brilliant as the Donald Trump Superman. It's funny and brutal but uneven at times.

  • Registered Users Posts: 767 ✭✭✭Lefty2Guns

I done the same as I hadn't a clue what some of the muffled dialogue was about. Made so much more sense when you know what they are actually talking about. The film went up in my estiamation after the second watch.

  • Registered Users Posts: 767 ✭✭✭Lefty2Guns

The Boys is top class. Homelander is a brilliant bady/goody.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,965 ✭✭✭Nigzcurran

The boys is one of the best things ever made

Everything Everywhere All at Once now available on irish prime. Very different but good fun.

    The Contractor

Chris Pine plays an American special ops type soldier that joins a private contracting firm to help pay the bills.

Usual Mark Wahlberg type USA ex army affair. (he's not in it note)

Actually not a bad film at all. Like I wouldn't pay money in the cinema to see it but for a Thursday night at home it's perfectly adequate

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,383 ✭✭✭S.M.B.

Some high profile movies just added (here in the UK at least).

Lena Dunham's Catherine Called Birdy, an early 90s YA adaptation is supposed to be decent.

Ti West's X, just added too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,386 ✭✭✭Wrongway1985

    Ya they up there.

Might watch X later in fact. His 'Pearl' movie that came out recently shares story/characters I believe but haven't read too much around it apart from that.

One of his previous films 'The House of the Devil' is quite good I thought and it's actually on there too, one for the Halloween watchlists.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,383 ✭✭✭S.M.B.

Yeah, Pearl is the prequel and Mia Goth stars in both but I'm assuming she plays different characters.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,109 ✭✭✭The Raging Bile Duct

Just reading up on Pearl, Mia Goth plays the hero and villain in X which I never copped when watching the movie. Pearl is the origin story of the villain from X.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,745 ✭✭✭flasher0030

I was just reading that as well. I didn't cop ut either.

X is a bit too out there for me. Didn't really enjoy it. Maybe I took it too serious. Was hoping for a bit of a tense slasher movie. But it got a bit ridiculous.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,290 ✭✭✭BruteStock

The Stranger 1995 . Biker gangs in the desert. Recommended. Producer /Director Donald_P._Borchers will answer fan questions about th picture on his youtube page

After watching X, I looked it up and saw the Pearl movie was coming. didn't realise it was so soon. Must give it a watch.

Didn't realise that The unbearable weight of massive talent was on Prime. Meant to catch in the cinema and didn't.

If you're a Nick Cage fan it's a must watch. I checked it out tonight and really enjoyed it. Perfect Friday with a couple of whiskeys unwinding movie.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,383 ✭✭✭S.M.B.

Is Freevee available in Ireland via Prime Video or a standalone app? It's Amazon's advertising supported streaming platform, previously called IMDBtv.

If so I would strongly recommend High School for fans of Tegan and Sara/90s music/coming of age stories. It's one of my favourite shows of the year.

Anyone started James May in India yet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 899 ✭✭✭DrZeuss

Yeah finished it a while back, decent again from James. The only thing, I felt like it needed another few episodes, like he only scratched the surface of India.

Absolutely agree, watched it in a single day while doing chores - and quintessentially James being James, but felt very short - like they were just getting going and suddenly over.

Still the scenes of James at the Holi festival looking like a raver from the 90s...

Amazon being sued for there sneaky ad free price increase

Amazon Sued Over Prime Video Ads: Class-Action Complaint Accuses Tech Giant of ‘Immoral, Unethical, Oppressive, Unscrupulous’ Conduct

For years, people purchased and renewed their Amazon Prime subscriptions believing that they would include ad-free streaming,” the lawsuit says. “But last month, Amazon changed the deal. To stream movies and TV shows without ads, Amazon customers must now pay an additional $2.99 per month… This is not fair, because these subscribers already paid for the ad-free version; these subscribers should not have to pay an additional $2.99/month for something that they already paid for.”

The case was filed on behalf of Wilbert Napoleon, a resident of Eastvale, Calif., who says he’s a Prime member. “Plaintiff brings this case for himself and for other Amazon Prime customers,” the suit said. The complain alleged that Amazon violates Washington State and California state consumer protection laws that prohibit unfair competition and deceptive business acts and practices.

Amazon’s conduct, as alleged, “was immoral, unethical, oppressive, unscrupulous and substantially injurious to consumers,” according to the lawsuit. The suit seeks unspecific monetary damages, including punitive damages, as well as an injunction to block Amazon’s alleged deceptive conduct.

Asked for comment, an Amazon rep said in an email, “We are unable to comment on pending litigation.”..........

Watched Reality. The whole film is the actual transcript of an interview with a whistleblower in the US that happened at her house. Checked it out as it has 94% on rotten tomatoes and thought it was excellent. It's only an hour and a half as well.
