Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Assuming Leclerc starts on pole, there's a great opportunity for the likes of Russell, the Alpines and Norris, to start from second.

I was just about it say. Is the grid basically going to be LeClerc, Russell then whoever you're having yourself followed by Max in 6th?

Could be a bit of fun watching Hamilton, Perez and Sainz squabbling for 15th tomorrow.

It's probably going to be Leclerc,Russell,Alonso,Ocon, Norris, Verstappen then maybe Ricciardo, Haas or Aston Martin

De Vries replacing Albon for the rest of the weekend, looking forward to seeing how he gets on.

Albon is a big loss for Williams. That car has speed, could maybe have been in line for a point or 2. Maybe de vries will get good work out though.

I love the Audio Lap idea on Sky. Just gives us a chance to listen to the cars and get a break from the commentators

Max looking good this weekend so far, 3 tenths up on LeClerc with no tow. He’ll start the race in 6th at best yes? Karun keeps saying 4th unless I’m not listening properly.

If De Vries owns Latifi in qualifying, that has to be Game over for the Canadian surely.

Won't Max's starting position depend on how they apply the penalties. Let's assume Max gets P1, Sainz P2 and Hamilton P3. Max gets demoted to P6, but will he go back up two places when Sainz and Hamilton get demoted? Or do the next two behind Max go above Max? Which would see strange.

You might be right. Maybe Sainz and Hamilton penalties will be applied last because they are back of the grid type penalties. Happy out if Max starts 4th.

De Vries put in a decent lap there all things considered. Alonso could end up second on the grid for tomorrow, reminding Alpine what they’ve lost. 😂

The risk is that both Sainz and Hamilton are used to draft Leclerc and Russell, and don't qualify above 6th, in which case Max will be 6th but that shouldn't make much difference as he seems unstoppable this season.

Lance Stroll will win today as a result of all the other drivers retiring due to a pile-up in the first corner.

How was Danny Ric in fp3? I assume way off the times still? Be mad if he did another worldie, especially with so many penalties in place...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,386 ✭✭✭✭dulpit

9 drivers now with a grid penalty of some sort. Makes the system a bit of a farce really...

De vries drove for aston in fp1 and now Williams for the weekend, can't imagine too many (if any, at all) have ever drove two different cars on the same GP weekend?

Be interesting to see how he fairs considering he's a rumoured choice for Latifis seat next year, really needs to take this opportunity. Big, warranted pressure on Latifi

He was down in 15th place, 9 positions and almost 6 tenths behind Norris. Not a chance he’s winning the race tomorrow. In hindsight they should have let Lando fight him for the win last year imo.

Are sky just re-hashing old clips instead of a proper built up?

It was meant to come on air at 2pm and that’s been cut to half and hour.

I wonder if DeVries will be interviewed later on about the difference in drivability of the two cars .

They've reduced the number of components allowed, increased the number of races in the season, and also introduced a new fuel this year and the first major changes to the cars since 2014 which has involved a lot of repackaging, all of which has made this situation almost inevitable.

The whole reason for this rule was to stop bigger teams throwing money at new engines every race (or even multiple times per race weekend) - with the budget cap rules in place they should just say use as many engines as you want within your budget and let them work it out for themselves, the same as they now do for how often they replace aero parts, floors etc.

Part of me thinks it's intentional because as farcical as it is on Saturday, the mixed up grids can make for more interesting races on Sunday.

Latifi looks like he could end up being back to 21st in a 20 driver championship

Albon getting appendicitis might be the worst thing to ever happen Latifi's motorsport career

Quite a few cars locking up,

    Sainz with a cracking lap.
