F1 2022-Round 16 - Monza : Italian GP

Lot of people have already metaphorically handed the trophy over to Verstappen but for the last couple of years the same was said about Mercedes-Benz and they only got their engines through, not the car.

With the news coming from the UK you can imagine Sir Lewis Carl Davidson Hamilton MBE HonFREng will want to pull another Brazil pull through on his noble German steed in honour of her majesty.

On a more serious note could Queen Elizabeth's passing (if it happens) disrupt the weekend? Although only 3 teams race under a British licence, many teams are UK based.

Cancelling the grand prix just because the Queen died would be awful decision, thankfully the FIA have some sense

Especially as its not even in the UK this weekend.

Yeah it would make zero sense to cancel an international sporting event in Italy because the head of state of another country died.

The Monza event in 2001 went ahead just a couple of days after the September 11th attacks, Ferrari ran a special livery out of respect.

I expect some of the British teams may do something similar if less extreme for this race.

Just a reminder of how absolutely beautiful cars were back then.

There's a lot of technicalities to the rules depending on exactly which parts were changed and when so a 25 place penalty starts ahead of everyone with a back of the grid penalty. However there was the same situation with Leclerc on the Friday of the Belgian GP and they ended up with a back of the grid penalty once it all shook out.

Tough crowd. Wouldn’t get my hopes up for the circuit but the grid penalties should provide more overtaking.

In theory yes. But some penalties are specifically back of the grid, so they go behind the people with x place penalties, even if someone ebds up with a 25 place penalty. I think.
