How much are children getting weekly in payment? I’m not talking about childrens allowance or back to school allowance or clothing allowance.

Its the international protection I am on about.

Also, the 1500 francs you highlighted, you didn't actually read how long that was for either..

It didn't say, but what difference did it make?, he was there when the war broke out.

So he was entitled to 380 quid a week and he already had accommodation, but he decided he was better off living in some sort of "centre" in Ireland getting 200 quid.

Sorry lad, that doesn't pass the smell test, that's before you even get on to the sham relationship to share a bed together. Nonsensical.

Anyway that's my opinion on the tale, I think someone might have been pumping you with smoke.

We will have to leave it there. Cool story though. 👍️

Funny that you only commented on the part that "it didn't say", on the one page you skimmed over. You didn't read about status s either. Which would answer your questions. So not only are you incapable of discussing, trying to deceive with nonsense and/or twisting the facts to suit, you now are quoting paragraphs about something that you aren't actually reading. Is this your first boards discussion or have you been getting away with this sort of thing for long?

It's yourself that you're smelling, and I'm not surprised it isn't passing. It's probably stuck to you.

    You are deflecting.

I'll ask once more, why would someone who already had a home and access to far better services and more cash, leave that to live in some sort of centre in Ireland and get less. I mean you painted him as a welfare tourist, didn't you?

Admit it, doesn't make sense does it?

I am not deflecting, you are not reading. You seem to think you are somehow going to figure something out by asking those stupid questions, but you haven't even looked at why some of them can't be applicable to him.

Where on earth did I say he already had a home?? You are gone from twisting, to just making up random sh*t now.

I'll admit nothing you twist/deform/make up makes sense. As you were, and good day.

P.S. Try reading what you are using to backup your queries or 'facts' sometime, you may get the answers without having to post the questions. You should go back and read from the first post and the stuff you quoted too.

If only I owned a hotel - I would pick the biggest number I could think of n tell these clowns to ring me back when they are prepared to pay it! I wouldn't be waiting long!

Garth brooks tickets still for sale, saying the lack of hotels in Dublin n sky high prices putting punters off

Where on earth did I say he already had a home??

    Below

Neither were living in Ukraine. The guy is from a Russian area of Ukraine and is pro-Russia, and has a Ukrainian passport. I don't know if the female is too. He was doing nothing in Switzerland when the war kicked off, heard about the refugee status that they could claim, and by talking, going online and asking around he decided that Ireland was the best option. Came over, met her in the centre and they agreed by posing as a couple they would get housed faster.

Unless of course he was homeless? But that would have been even more bizarre he would have been given a home and given better services and more cash in the country he was actually in.

going online and asking around he decided that Ireland was the best option

The best option was the country he was actually in, where he would have been given immediate protection, but he decided to move to Ireland to live in some centre for less.

    Truly bizarre.

When asked how many tickets are left, a spokesperson for Aiken Promotions said there was a “handful” on sale ahead of the country superstar much-awaited performance here.

On Ticketmaster, it notes there is “limited availability” for his tickets, which are priced at around €88 including booking fees.

However, it is expected to completely sell-out, with the singer taking to the stage on September 9, 10, 11, 16 and 17.

Last Friday saw Aiken Promotions releasing a limited number of standing tickets now that production details for the stage set-up have been finalised.

A small number of tickets are also on sale privately on websites like Adverts.ie and DoneDeal with many of them being offered at face value.

I have heard of 5 single females staying in one bedroom in a hotel in this town so you could pack them in rightly 😬

Sounds horrific, even more bizarre the jealously towards them on here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,566 ✭✭✭enricoh

So tickets are still for sale, n the lack of hotels n sky high prices are putting punters off boggles, yeah?!!

Now, many hotels near Dublin Airport, like the Travelodge and the Holiday Inn, are booked up with Ukrainian refugees.--

We found a twin room at the Travelodge Dublin Airport North in Swords for €318, but with taxis rarer than hens’ teeth most nights, the outskirts are far from ideal – unless you plan to hike it home

Tickets are still for sale because they printed more, it's in the article.

What are we talking quarter of a million people or more descending on Dublin? And you are someway surprised about lack of hotel rooms and profiteering?

How many articles from the past decade would you like that states this is not new?

A biggish house down our road has to have around 20 staying in it. Garage was converted just beforehand. Knowing the lad that owns it he ain't doing it for e400 a month- unless he has had a road to Damascus change recently!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,566 ✭✭✭enricoh

Here was me thinking hotels were for tourists, business trips etc. When the government block books entire hotels for Ukrainians, the hotel down the road no longer has any competition n can charge accordingly. Who would have thunk it boggles? Literally no-one! It's a thing called supply n demand.

Quite simply in the aftermath of this I'll be doing research on hotels... not just rates and amenities but what guests they were housing, feeding and facilitating during this situation...

Try book to suit my needs of course but ... also rewarding business who backed irish people..

The needs of irish people to have rest, recreation for their wellbeing.

At least a hotel room is en-suite. I know of 3 single, unrelated females sharing a room, bunk and single bed, shared toilet and kitchen facilities with numerous others. Yet, some here begrudge them a safe place to lay their heads.

They can always get a job and pay their own way like the rest of us instead of begging for handouts. A novel idea, I know,

How do you know that they’re not?

All 3 are working, but private rentals are impossible to get. They’re also learning English through online classes. They don’t want to be a burden to anyone. All want to return to Ukraine and make full use of the learning opportunities that have been afforded them here in Ireland.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 524 ✭✭✭DelaneyIn

Kyiv is back to normal. Why is the taxpayer paying for them to stay in a hotel room? Why are we paying for their meals and board? They should be charged a nominal amount each week.

The party is over. Huge swathes of Ukraine are back to normal. The country is twice the size of Italy. Absolutely no need for them to be here clogging up accommodation and living off of Paddy. It it time for them all to think about going home. What will assist them with this decision, is the state cutting down on welfare and the handouts.

Why can't schools be used to house these people? There are dozens of community centres that could be given to refugees.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 29,711 ✭✭✭✭_Kaiser_

I said several years ago on this site that migration would become a key election issue in the years ahead. That our open door "come one, come all" policy would come back to bite us.

    Unfortunately I was right.

The problem here isn't the actually genuine refugees. It's the lax system we have created and the self-serving weak politicians that have encouraged it.

The problems we are seeing now were inevitable but have been dramatically accelerated by the current situation. So long as we continue to invite Ukrainians and anyone else to come here with the promise of excessively generous supports, it'll only get worse.

The only question now is how long will Paddy continue to put up with coming last before he finally has enough?

As we saw during the anti-drugs protests of the 90s that led to things like the CAB, and the Irish Water protests that led to the whole charging regime being scrapped entirely, Paddy does put up with an awful lot, but he does have his eventual limit.

We're not helping anyone at this stage.. Not ourselves, not the actual refugees, and certainly not the Ireland we'll be leaving for our children and their futures.

And yet posts like this remain.

But I'll ask you a genuine question MaryAnne?.. How much is enough?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 29,711 ✭✭✭✭_Kaiser_

Why should they be? Haven't we already done enough?

Honestly.. What do you and some of the others here actually expect?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,541 ✭✭✭✭hotmail.com

    Everything possible should be done.

The government supported by migration supporters are all in favour of this.

Schools, empty buildings, army barracks . Everything should be given along with billions of euro to accommodate refugees.

Large areas in Dublin 4, Dublin 6 should be used to house these thousands of people in particular.
