"I have less to say of import than a pebble"

    Fair enough.

"Donegal County Council is investigating another alleged breach of planning regulations in relation to refugee accommodation.

The latest case relates to works carried out at the former Village Court bar in Kilmacrennan.

Major renovations, it is alleged, were carried out there in recent months without planning permission.

It is believed the former pub now houses a number of Ukrainian refugees.

“A case has been opened and is currently being investigated,” a council spokesperson confirmed to Donegal Daily.

Back in June, we also reported that the local authority is investigating an alleged breach of planning regulations at Orchard Crescent in Letterkenny.

Locals claimed that works were being carried out to change a storage area to refugee accommodation without planning permission.

The council is also investigating works at another premises in the town which is reportedly being done to accommodate refugees."

No, just people with houses apparently.

It's one of the more delusional claims to be fair.

+100%! Exactely, I was groaning when I heard Wainwright saying this!! Jaysus, we always need to be seen to be good and decent, cap in hand, welcoming, apologetic, subservient. Refugees will obviously NOT always be welcome if there is no room!! Or if public opinion is turning. So why say that?

The dogs in the street know that Irish are suffering and quietly furious about how we are being treated! Why caveat his response with "nonetheless refugees will continue to be welcomed in Ballyvaughan"?? Lets call a spade a spade and stop all the simpering apologetic behaviour!

Boggles, are you claiming that people who fail to master English are functional members of Irish society? Do I really need to spell it out for you Boggles that those who fail to master the English language, have very limited employment opportunities in this country? Really?

Oh, I read your post. Save that mortification for yourself Donald.

    You'll need it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 43,030 ✭✭✭✭Boggles

I think your views are at best myopic and in reality completely idiotic, xenophobic and have not even a toehold in reality. But thankfully there would be a minority view of the permanently outraged and weak minded, who in reality would not be what you would call functioning members of Irish society anyway, so I suppose, irony?

Similar to relationships, there is a strong undercurrent of abuse at play here.

The generally generous nature of Irish people has been weaponised (mostly by cute hoor Irish people!) into a spinalectomy, used against us.

You'll find many a people and country's where you'd be denied the steam off pss if you needed it, yet here we are collectively going down with the ship with incessant sorry-about-thats and is-there-anymore-i-can-give-maybe-the-skin-off-my-back.

The spine needs to be put back in.

So, Boggles doubles-down on his perverse logic. Let's examine the rhetoric.

"Myopic", your impressive throughput on this site, suggests you don't get out very much. "Idiotic", a poster who introduces Josef Fritzl into the conversation to make some sort of point. "Xenophobic", I might be concerned if it originated from anybody but you Boggles.

There you have it. A poster who believes him/herself grounded in reality, whilst simultaneously believing that mastering the English language isn't an inhibitor to participating in Irish society. It's Boggles..

Perhaps people who think not being able to take orders or understand simple instructions will not hinder their employment opportunities do not work themselves.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 43,030 ✭✭✭✭Boggles

The Fritzl thing clearly went over your head. Whoosh. 😂

And again I don't believe I would actually have to say this but no you don't have to master any language to get a job or be of value to society.

The painter I use is hearing and speech impaired, very tidy worker also gives an enormous amount of his time to the club. But again no value to society according to some. It's fringe lunacy. But thankfully like I say a small minority of online malcontents.

Might only be implying this so he doesn't have to communicate with you. Just a thought. Lol.

I've heard of one local place, and they where literally digging a basement into an existing building on the sly, just so as they could get more refugees in for the big bucks.

Oh-oh.......better not let Mr. Mastery-of-English-is-required see that post........... They will doubt your ability to be a "functional member of society" ............

No Boggles, the Fritzl reference didn't go over anybody's head. It's just highlighting standard discourse for you.

Again, it's there for all to read. Boggles believes that there is no imperative for incomers to Ireland to learn English, in order to participate in society. Lunacy and fringe views are your daily bedfellow Boggles.

Perhaps some people have only ever been employed in roles which required them to be being constantly given "simple instructions" over and over again........

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 43,030 ✭✭✭✭Boggles

Tut tut, lets move those goal posts back again.

Those who fail to master the lingua Franca of this country have limited opportunity to ever become economically active

So... some unscrupulous landlord tried something on, word got out, it's reported in the local paper, and is being investigated? That'd be a good thing, so?

Boggles logic: Not speaking English does not limit economic opportunity in Ireland.

Seeing as your two-line post contains syntax and casing errors, I'm certainly doubting your competence Donald.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,131 ✭✭✭malinheader

Where did I mention over and over again. As I stated, people who probably don't work wouldn't understand. You have made my point.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 4,431 ✭✭✭TaurenDruid

Yup, they'd be right, too. My local has an immigrant barman, he's here for years, absolutely shite English. Still an excellent barman. I've a contractor working for me, good spoken English, shite written English. Still one of the best techies I've ever had.

So I take it that your works requires you being given simple instructions to do things?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,131 ✭✭✭malinheader

No I give instructions. As simple as they need to be for someone to understand.

Wouldn't be a safe work place if people couldn't understand health and safety and work procedures would it.

These superheroes of migration aren't worth debating on that level.

They cannot utter a word to the prime problems, instead they try to argue over inconsequential froth. Their level.

It gives the pretence that there's some kind of equal footing on issues. It's a mirage.

Is functionality and competence in language something of concern for large swathes of extra people? Of course it is. It SHOULD go without saying. However, you get the invariable pushback of trite nonsense like "a person doesn't NEED to speak a language competently, why, there was this one time I was in the garden with Uncle Bob, it was a pleasant day, though I can't be sure now that I think of it, anyway, the price of butter..something something I know a bloke with no tongue that could lift a tractor THEREFORE a huge migrant population doesn't necessarily need to speak english".

    Bullcrap bottom feeding.

Same with the other poster. I print out the text of one article citing multiple incidences of planning permission violations with regard the goldrush of migration in frankly crazy scenarios, I specifically mention one of which I know wHere a basement was being built...

and of course all other evidence of reality is immediately cast aside, and the poster insists its unbelievable, and that I better provide exact proof of that one super specific thing or ELSE that means there's no problem with this unsustainable migration.

It's all shite. These people have nothing to say about anything, they'll sidestep all of pertinence to just obfuscate with go-nowhere non-ideas of no importance.

There is no point in reacting to such trivial stuff.

The bottom line is that there are far too many people in this country and it is, quite worryingly for some, becoming nigh on impossible to ignore.

I worked in the US for years. I remember one Indian fella we had in as a specialist consultant for about two years for a critical platform migration. Before he came to us, he was in working in Germany for about 3 years on a similar project there. It was probably costing the guts of 10k a week for this fella.

I asked him about how he liked living in Germany and he said it was fine but that he never learned any German at all in his whole time there.

im not friends with any Ukrainians on Facebook, the only ones whom I knew in real life were two people from there in old jobs a long long time before the invasion..

yet my Facebook ‘suggested friends / people who I might know ‘ list is populated a lot with for some reason Ukrainian girls in their 20’s….they have seemingly zero links to my current friends on Facebook as it would tell you, yet 40-50% are…Ukranian, female, in their 20’s ? Erm how does that transpire… ALL seemingly single in fact none are shown in a profile pic with a boyfriend or indeed even a family member or friend, just solo pics… odd.
