Free /discounted travel with CIE card in London

You do realise they're two different countries, right?

It entitles the CIE/IE/BE/DB employee to a 75% discount rate on the products listed below. Mainline GB trains are listed as ATOC/GBPR. The ferries are a special flat rate (maybe £6).

It's actually a better entitlement than what GB railway staff get, mainline railway staff unless old British Rail before 1996 don't get discount on London Underground for example, and again only long established Underground staff get discount on the mainline railways.

I think that the poster is making the point that travel schemes can cross international borders between the UK and Ireland, which the other poster seemed to think didn't happen.

In the case of the staff privilege scheme, it is a legacy from the past (a good one!) of the nationalised public transport networks.

The process for ex British Rail staff is that the attendant in the ticket hall (Borris closed down all the ticket offices) can set the discount on an oyster card from the ticket machine with a special code and I presume that would be the same for you. However you're supposed to have a form from the staff travel office before they do this. Some staff are more knowledgable than others so you might need to shop around. You'll need to apply for a FIP card, I used to have one, worked all over Europe for 50 to 75% off of fares.
