That sounds like a helpful and informative thread if you ask me.

Will you post a link so I can see what people are stockpiling in case I’ve forgotten anything.

It's amazing how other stations seem to be going weeks and weeks on old higher priced fuel, without a new stock of cheaper fuel

Yet a few months ago they were getting deliveries every other day, and having to increase prices.

Yeah, some places had 2 price increases per day at one point. But don't call it gouging.... someone might get offended. :)

The elephant in the room here is still the duty cut of 20c by the government.

Fuel would have to have dropped to about 159.9c-ish to get back to near pre-crisis prices once the duty is added back on. What are the chances of that? At the moment, we're actually looking at fuel still well over the €2 mark once duty is restored.

I think we're in this cycle for the long haul and the more it goes on, the more people will just accept it. I don't hear anywhere near as much furore about fuel prices now than when it all kicked off a few months ago.

I seriously cannot see the duty being restored this year at least. It would be political suicide.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,335 ✭✭✭Miscreant

Absolutely it would be political suicide.

My point is that fuel would have to get at least another 20c to 25c cheaper to reach close to parity with what it was before this price crisis, and that is with the fuel duty not reapplied. A drop of 40c would be needed to get it back to near parity if the duty is to be restored.

We have a long way to go yet!

    I agree,

However at the moment there can be almost 20¢ price differential between stations.

They must be making more profit per litre than they ever have. I can't see them rushing to get prices down.

As long as prices stay up, the government will probably leave the duty cut in place, and the petrol stations will continue to coin it.

Unfortunately it's a commodity that has to be bought, they have us over a(n oil) barrel.

Currently €1.74 for petrol in Go Cabra, looks like it'll go lower in the coming days.

that place has been consistently leading the way in their price cuts

id never noticed it before, never paid it any attention, despite driving past it countless times. Now it’s very much on the radar, so probably will work for them in the long run

They're only open a couple of months or so (was sort of under construction but effectively built for an absolute age).

I'd say they're aggressively pursuing market share, which is great for us. The nearby Circle K's are between €1.84 to €1.86. That's a big difference. You can’t put help feel there is a lot of gouging going on. The only other petrol station that is in or around the same is the Circle K on Ushers Quay which always seems to be able to be a good 10c or more below the other Circle K's.

Refined petrol is back to normal pricing but diesel is still double

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,623 ✭✭✭John arse

    Oil down below $92 today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,227 ✭✭✭creedp

Course there is gouging going on.. never waste a crisis to make killing. Still waiting for the multiple posters who patiently explained to the rest of us the extremely technical reasons why pump prices had to unfortunately increase daily or multiple times a day so retailers could isurvive as oil prices increased but don't have to reduce as oil / refining prices reduce.

    Unleaded E182.9

    Diesel E180.9

Youghal Applegreen was E185.9 and E182.9

Not sure what's going on in my local garage petrol and diesel both dropped to 189.9 from 191.9 and 193.9 yesterday morning, diesel changed back to 199.9 today, sometime after lunch.

Must have set it wrong yesterday is my thinking but that's nearly 20c per liter more than some other posters are reporting

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,487 ✭✭✭vickers209

More increases this week another 3c+ vat being added today and 2 smaller rises earlier in week

now back up to €1.95 inc vat for diesel

Garages will start ticking upwards again shortly

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,335 ✭✭✭Miscreant

Petrol and Diesel are at 170.9 here in Italy at the moment. Not looked into what their taxes are to see if the 20-odd cent difference to Ireland is hidden in there.
