Casemiro looks like it's done €60m then €10m in add-ons

The comparable wages to DDG who earns in excess of £350k a week in wages.

    WOW that is mad money.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 13,227 Mod ✭✭✭✭Cookiemunster

The article it says that United’s offer is not close to the double-your-money package that has been suggested in the Spanish media, so is it really mad money to give him pay increase join?

BTW De Gea doesn't earn in excess of £350K. That's the max he can earn including bonuses. (I wish the UK press would stop reporting bonuses as a given). One of those bonuses (that every Utd player has) is a 25% wage increase when in the CL. So every Utd player took a 25% cut on last season for not qualifying for the CL.

He is a super player no question

One thing is for sure the Glazer do allow united spend money although the mess up other parts last summer they singed, Sancho,Varane & Ronaldo

This summer Martinez , Eriksen , Casimero , Malicia & more to follow,

Not bad windows at all ,

They just need a good director of football ,

I'd imagine when they get new owners director of football will be the first thing sorted

Real Madrid will have brought in the younger Tchouameni this summer, along with Camavinga last summer, to add to Valverde and have their new midfield settling in together, while also still having Modric & Kroos to keep things ticking along. Succession planning at it's best.

You'd have to be wary of Real Madrid being happy to sell one of their big name players, who has won it all. Do they think the hunger has gone? Or is it just the money side of things and they couldn't say no? Man United have been burnt in the past with players at a similar stage in their career like Schweinsteiger, Di Maria, Varane and even Ronaldo to a degree.

Big money and he is on the wrong side of 30. Man United will have to hope he gives 2 top seasons at the least because in 2 or 3 years time, they are going to be on the hunt for another DM while Casemiro sits on large wages. Those 2 or 3 seasons better be worth it. It's a risk IMO.

He is still an unreal player,

I understand rival fans trying to pick holes in in it but the lads is still brilliant,

He is only 30 younger than, Henderson ,Thaigo , KDB, Gundogan ,Kante ,Jorginho, some off the best the Prem have,

He is ahead of our very over Fab for Brazil

The chap was MOM in the Super Cup the other week , so not showing signings of slowing down ,

He'll add steel & experience to Untied exactly what they need ,id think he is a better signing than De Jong would be for them right now ,

Real Madrid wouldn’t be letting Casamiro go unless they think he’s past it, like Varane, its crazy money and wages for a player that age, it smacks of desperation from Man Utd.

If I was a United fan I'd be happy because he's certainly an upgrade on what's currently there. Probably big money and big wages but that's where they find themselves at the moment.

My main worry would be, how will he play when he has Maguire, Shaw, Rashford, etc. beside him compared to the WC players he's used to playing with.

The answer to why Madrid are letting him go if he’s still good is clearly the money… it’s just a great fee, especially when they say got his long term replacement in already. Probably quicker than they’d planned the succession, but 60m is a lot.

He’s an excellent player, and someone who will make the midfielders around him, and the defenders behind him all better. Sure, it’s reasonably short term, but that’s better than the situation they’ve been in for a few years now, if just not having that sort of player at all.

The banging on about overpay is a bit cliche. At this stage of the window there wont be many deals NOT overpriced.

Casemiro is costing only 12m more than Gibbs-White for feck sake.

Like this week Newcastle have had two 20m+ bids rejected for Joao Pedro who struggled to get ahead of Josh King at Watford last year.

I think high wages and long contracts are more the concern of fans than transfers fee's ,

Its the high wages and long contracts that make it impossible to sell some players & makes dressing rooms harder to manage,

You have guys there the club don't want & who don't want to be there,

It makes transfer's that fail impossible to shift ,

The argument is also guys Gibbs - White have reseal value , Older players do not ,

Not saying he is not a good player. He's a brilliant holding midfielder and Man United need a holding midfielder. But it's not as clear cut as that.

It's clear that ten Haag wanted a De Jong type player in DM someone who is comfortable taking the ball off of the keeper, or CBs and progressing the ball quickly via dribbling or passing through the lines. Press resistant and able to cover the ground freely. But also win the ball back and make interceptions, cover his defence etc. Like what Busquets used to do, or Rodri does now, Jorginho or Fabinho on top form etc.

How many of those attributes does Casemiro possess? Maybe he has the passing range but we haven't seen it at Real Madrid over the last decade(ish) as he had Modric & Kroos taking care of that department at Real Madrid. Maybe Eriksen is going to start a lot more games in CM for Man United and be that man. But that's a lot of weight to put on the shoulders of a man playing with a pacemaker. I wouldn't trust Mctominay. Bruno is more of a forward than a CM.

Add in the age, fee & wages on top of that. And the question marks over motivation and why Real Madrid are happy to sell.

Maybe Ten Hag has realised after the two games that he is naïve to think he could come in a try to make United play in the Ajax system in season one, Personally i think Casemiro is exactly what United midfield needs right now & they can in the future evolve into something else,

I think its unfair to question Casemiro motivations, he was integral to Madrid last season & was MOM in the Super cup only days ago , He has seen Madrid buy a 100milion young man in his position maybe its just time for him and Madrid to part, They have history of letting players go who still plenty to offer Ozil, Di Maria, Ronaldo and co

Wages are huge but United can afford them so i don't see the problem ,

I wonder does it mean Ronaldo is staying ?

Surely he'd have been on the phone to him

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,952 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

€60m isn't overly bad even if he only lasts three years.

I really hope United don't get De Jong as well and he stays at Barca because it'd be so funny if they couldn't register all their new signings!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,954 ✭✭✭✭yourdeadwright

They have registered them all but Kounde but PEA is about to leave so that should do the trick ,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 355 ✭✭Pat_bottom

Sorry but noway can anyone argue that 60m to sign one of the best dms in the world and upgrade from mctominay and Fred is a bad deal.

The man is nominated for ballon D'or he is coming off an excellent season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,919 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

    great deal.

fascinated to see how he works in a system of players that currently struggle to progress the ball, seen as Modric and Kroos do that for him at Real, as they should.

but he'll stop a lot of the leaks at the back, there is surely no doubt about that. if he can't at least stem a huge amount of the flow, then it might be a lost cause.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 61,272 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

We all heard that last season about Varane as well who was 28 when he joined no one can argue that £41m to sign one of the best CB in the world is a bad deal.

Di Maria who was 26 no one can argue that £60m to sign one of the best attacking mids in the world is a bad deal.

I guess the old saying could be right if you throw enough against the wall something is bound to stick.

I will say shows again that the Glazers aren't afraid to open the check book and buy a player the manager of Man U wants.

Does ETH really WANT Casemiro or is it a quarter to 2 in the nightclub situation. His name was never mentioned all summer.

The club also has to ask why has ETH spent 3 months waiting on deJong the Glazers backed him on that and agreed a deal with Barca.

it’s has been widely reported from the very start that de Jong would not and did not want leave Barca yet ETH has held out right up to the closing weeks of the transfer window when the season has started

The Glazers and club have to think of the club long term and if ETH isnt looking for another midfielder other than deJong then the club has to be

Pepe was one of the more memorable disappointing transfers in recent years. Thought he'd tear it up in the PL

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 61,272 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

No need to force deJong out of the club now I'd say with PEA's wages off the books if this move happens.

So many big money deals in recent years that have been brutal in reality - I reckon Pepe must surely be close to top of that pile.

Unai Emery asked the arsenal hierachy (at the time ) for Wilfried Zaha , a premier league proven left winger , they got him Pepe a right winger from the french league who's style of play totally didn't fit with Arsenal , he works better in a counter attacking team (where he came from at Lille) there was also talk of Raul Sanlehi and backhanders with one of his best mates (artur canales) involved in the deal , Sanlehi was since pushed out the door for supposed irregularites

In short as an Arsenal fan i was buzzing when we signed him he just never got going at all he did score a good few goals in the europa league funnily enough just couldn't find his feet in the league , don't agree he's as bad as 80 million pounds for Harry Maguire though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,040 ✭✭✭irelandrover

Pepe has done less damage to his team by not playing than Maguire has done to his.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,731 ✭✭✭Schwiiing

Pogba, Maguire, Kepa and Coutinho to Barca are ahead of Pepe for me. Pepes transfer didnt break any records at the time.
