Wink, Nod , Wink ., so to speak , I jest of course 🙄

I believe due to alledged "Emergency Measures " normal tendering practices and rules don't apply, you know like all the other rules that don't apply 😉

There'll be a few investigative Journalists making some enquiries on ownership of these hotels and shall we say , Political connections 😉

What roof? Housing is not fixed, so with no roof over their head what roof?😉

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,727 ✭✭✭skimpydoo

It's a valid question. How were the hotels chosen and who owns them? FFG has a habit of taking care of their own.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,637 ✭✭✭maninasia

wtf ..transfer ownership on Monday and they announce the huge deal.

Owners want to remain anonymous but getting 12 million govt contract?

"Transfer of ownership was completed on Monday, with staff and guests at the hotel briefed on the change.

Workers are understood to have been assured of job security. Head of operations at the new centre, Paul Walsh, declined to identify the new owners as "it is only fair and dignified that our staff are first given the details", he said.""

I smell something rotten and its not the seaweed on the beach.

Don't believe public tender processes apply as Government dealing directly with owners of Hotels 🤔 obviously questions will be asked about who owns these establishments if ownership hidden behind shelf companies 😏 possible political link's etc etc

The Emergency Measures enacted during Covid? Which is no longer seen as an issue as all testing is now being done through GP's.

Is The Maltese Falcon and the Beef Baron involved again, like they were with their hospitals?

I'll have to make some enquiries, so to speak but I believe it maybe a wexford based consortium with "Private Backers" but will need to clarify, so to speak 😁

No, I'm thinking emergency measures under the EU Directive, , accommodation crisis, so to speak ,facilitates , Shenanigans, etc etc.

Of course let's not forget, Government never saw the housing crisis as an emergency before , all very odd 😏

No, I can hear it being prized opened slowly on the top of a mountain in the midlands 🤣

This is just extraordinary, I know a number of hotels are being purchased rather mysteriously, with the exception of very high end, gold chip properties, anyone with a basic understanding of how the Hospitality sector is doing in Ireland, knows its not a terribly clever investment at the moment, unless of course...............................

I'll say no more, so to speak 😁

A lot of people are getting worked up over an article that's 3 months old.

I know some of the Ukrainians in the quality hotel who were moved from Kerry. Those that can work are doing so in youghal.

They don’t have an excuse to circle the woke wagons and enable extra votes for themselves by virtue of their concern and leaping to action stations for our new arrivals…

Two thirds of people on social housing waiting lists here wait over two years… that’s going to get an awful lot longer..

Questions have continuously been asked, but the contempt that this government has had, and continues to have for citizens it is paid by to represent, ensure the wellbeing of and work for is staggering… basically treacherous.

its like if you went in to buy a BMW… picked one, handed over 70,000 euros and the salesman hands you the keys to a 3 year old Skoda. That’s what living here has become. “ they need it “

Of course I agree but we also know the Woke wagon has been on an uncontrollable circular motion at a steady speed for quite some time. We of course also know government & housing charities have been sticking their two fingers up at those on housing lists also and not at all shy about it

Correct, the Article was from the 1st of August, there was indeed knowledge of 2 hotels in Youghal being completely used to house Ukrainian Refugees, this was discussed at length on the Thread months ago, infact I believe I first highlighted this in the context of it impacting on the local tourism and general economy of the area, I was of course ridiculed by a small number at the time.

Then a month ago in the very same newspaper and I linked it, local restaurants livid, describing the impact as being worse than Covid restrictions, of course those who previously ridiculed, strangely silent.

What yesterday's new article did however bring to light was the actual contract details and indeed the mysterious new ownership of the Youghal property, the timing of this and indeed the "Awarding" of conttact to house Ukrainian refugees.

Wait, what? The "local tourist economy" (late May to mid-September, dead the rest of the year) is "decimated" because there's now people in the hotel 12 months of the year, and - according to this thread - they're all loaded as they're getting full social welfare and are rocking up to local hostelries to order platters of prawns and prosecco.

It's one or the other, it can't be both.

Wait, wait , wait , have you any idea how important a Hotel, let alone 2 hotels are to the local economy of a Town heavily reliant on Tourism 🤔

Wait, wait , wait how much do you think Ukrainian refugees are spending in the local economy. 🙄

Wait, wait, wait , we're are the Tourists staying 🤔

Wait, Wait ,Wait , what about the other facilities no longer available, Function rooms, Leisure facilities etc etc 🙄

Wait, wait , wait , what employment opportunities does these Ukrainian refugees have in the local economy, if its practically shut down. 🙄

Wait, Wait, Wait , I'll hang on for your further thoughts and analysis 🙄

So the platters of prawns and all-day prosecco story was bullshit, then. Glad we're agreed.

Ah now a hotel full of refugees are not going to be spending their money localy, a cat would figure that out, instead you pick some posters anecdote as some sort of gotcha comment, its absolutely true that hotels block booked by the government with our money to house Ukrainian refugees/economic migrants adds little or nothing to local tourist economies, a fools gold in the long run, but the tetrarch capitals of this world will coin it in as always

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,376 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

Are these hotel contracts being calculated on full going rate per room I wonder?

Or is the taxpayer at least getting some sort of reduced rate for buying an entire hotel out, including during off peak seasons?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,199 ✭✭✭✭Dempo1

We agree on nothing , are you again referring to a Bar/ Restaurant in Dublin 🤔 please enlighten me as to what that has to do with Youghal , were Ukrainian refugees, if they so desired would be lucky to get a Toasted sandwich in Youghal 🤔 I know people living there and the only thing that's moving there is Thumleweed.

Another deflection from an ill informed post you've made 🤔 carry on ....

As I said yesterday, it's now gotten to the point where supporting "refugees" is also supporting discrimination against natives and EU citizens living here.

All the money that has been diverted to this cause and private businesses (with the same old nonsense of "commercially sensitive" being used to hide the specifics from the people paying for it - us!) will have to come from somewhere... Namely the taxpayer and cuts to the services they are actually entitled to expect from those taxes.

I've had enough of the excuses and whataboutery being put forward to explain it. It's treating the Irish as second class citizens in their own country - shut up, pay up, and deal with it essentially!
