Sounds like you just came out of the confraternity meeting to post that!

So you agree with me when I say that our homegrown bigots who lack empathy for those fleeing a war should be ashamed of themselves?

Yes. They use the word may because it is more accurate than saying "If you do not qualify as a refugee, you most definitely will be guaranteed to be granted subsidiary protection". The "may" being that it is not automatic. For example, if a person from the US applied for subsidiary protection, they would likely not be granted it.

However your conclusion is wholly inaccurate. The State would be obliged to grant protection to someone rather than send them back to a warzone against their will. The reason for "may" is not that they can choose not to implement it for genuine cases, but so that they can refuse fake claims such as my example of a person from the US above.

A Ukrainian could also be in the position that they identify as Russian and would be in danger of being prosecuted or even shot as a traitor if sent back.

Must be great to be so above the plebs not to bother with a measly 800 euro a month. Glad you're so humble and down to earth regardless of your colossal wealth

Yeah. 'Tis great alright. Thanks. Three houses. One in Castlebar, one in Dublin and one in Brussels. You try it sometime.

There you go. It only took a handful of posts later for the true colours and bigotry to shine through again. No doubt, your M&S jumper couple will be soon added to the "stunt" list. See below referencing the stunts of all the women and kids being packed on trains while the Ruskies were only doing an oul' bit of harmless raping and murdering and torturing in Bucha and elsewhere.

    Tried and tested stunts.

What made me go…..”ok, there is going to be trouble here” was when at the beginning of this shîtshow free accommodation, free healthcare and FULL social welfare payment was going to be given to them..

As soon I heard PPS I knew. How exactly do you revoke a PPS that your entitled to. 🤔

I would like to rid the country of some of those who try to accuse people of being far right, bigots or racists because of their legitimate concerns on this issue and why it isn't being controlled properly.

Forget about this article, it may have been shared before.

Folks can make up their own minds , but one part stood out for me .

"The Palamars, who are from Zaporizhzhia, have been staying in the Hydro Hotel since mid-March. From her new base, Tanya has still tried to run her business back in Ukraine"

"This week is my salon’s fourth birthday and this would have been the high season for my business, with lots of weddings and student graduations,” she says. “But the salon is still open and we are still getting some weddings and I am in touch with my staff every day"

I ask a very simple Question, if the staff are still running this Business, why the need for the owners to be here 🤔

    I'll leave it at that.

Why would they come here.. ‘ to escape war ‘ .. yet expect their staff to work on ? Bizarre.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,199 ✭✭✭✭Dempo1

Donald, we are nearing me reporting your constant accusations of Bigotry levelled at me, I'll ask politely you cut it out.

The tried and Tested stunt I was referring too was the the use imagery of children leaving on Trains last March being used continuously throughout this thread cynically, no Bigotry in me highlighting this fact , wether you like it or not .

    Now good night .

This tired old routine of calling anyone who has a problem with the current open-door policy a bigot, or racist, or selfish, or uncaring, or xenophobic, or whatever is REALLY getting tiresome!

The only argument being offered to justify it is more of the same superficial virtue signalling and attempts to pull on the heartstrings, but unfortunately feelz and grandstanding don't really do much good in the real world.

The supposed warzone is a section of the east/south east of a massive country with a huge expanse of land to the west that is still offering hotel bookings, and which is being bypassed (along with the breadth of Europe) by opportunistic and greedy people chancing their arms on the back of their GENUINE countrymen who actually DO need help.

If you want to complain about anyone, then that's where you need to start. Not the Irish people who have already opened their hearts and wallets to these people but are now being blatantly taken advantage of by not just economic migrants, but our own Government who is putting their welfare ahead of our own real and serious needs.

The "think of the children" argument died on its ass at about the same time as the posts in the Facebook groups from chancers appeared looking for the best way to get to the land of freebies (often from perfectly safe locations).

But beyond all that is the 2 apparently very inconvenient and uncomfortable truths for some

    - first, the country is full and we can't even support those we've already taken in, let alone even more,

    - and second, as reported by even the IT last week, the overwhelming majority of the general public have concerns and think that a limit is needed. I suppose they're ALL 'bigoted' and 'lacking empathy' are they?

Back to twitter with you. That stuff tends to play better there than anywhere where there's still a dose of cop on.

My observation exactly and it's articles like this that infuriate people and it just astonishes me that media and Journalists don't get how ridiculous and contradictory these articles are.

These are certainly not like the Elderly refugees mentioned earlier. I've said it many , many times despite an impression of me by some, there are genuine refugees and there's these folks 😏

"I am concerned about my parents and brother, who are still there and tell me everything is fine as they don’t want to worry me.”

Her staff, customers, business and lying family are all still over there. Sounds like this is paid holiday.

There is no doubt an element of worry, but if they can all still plod away over there, while the 30,000 per day return (or whatever it is up to now), then it does seem very odd that they are here.

In her defence... it seems like she may be planning on going back. Her choice to come here and not to the countries next door, may be just for some extra cash to open a 2nd salon on the other end of town.

Although, who knows. Maybe she just suffers from paranoia and thinks everyone is lying to her, not just her family.

My local university, elderly you see are certainly in the minority… men and women, healthy adults 18-60 a plenty, walking around enjoying the amenities, yet groups representing them wanting the EU and it’s citizens to do more for them.

It went on that they are looking to rent in clare 🙄

These and many, many articles we've all linked , coupled with extraordinary stories both locally and on SM have at least some merit and alonh with the shocking incompetency evident at ports of entry , accomdation farce, freedom to go back and forth to a supposed war Zone being highlighted or queried being somehow equated to Bigotry is just offence.

Will you just go to bed. One goodnight will do.

Definition: First hit on google. https://www.lexico.com/definition/bigotry

Bigotry: obstinate or unreasonable attachment to a belief

You appear to have a belief that all these wealthy Ukrainians are foregoing their jet-setting lives and coming over here forever to live in a tent in Gormanston beach and get 200 quid a week. I would categorise your attachment to this belief as both obstinate and unreasonable.

Report all you like. I stand over it.

"It went on that they are looking to rent in clare 🙄"

Yeah I read that after, as I was reading through, but maybe she was lying? Allegedly at least 3 members of her family are liars, who's to say she is not too?

I'm just not sure which to believe. I mean she doesn't state anywhere in the article that she & her family are planning on going home, but she is keeping her business going over there. I'm assuming she has a few bob tucked away. Her family are telling her everything is fine there, so she is looking at longer term accommodation here for the foreseeable future. Makes sense.
