Stove Supply and Fit Cost

Insert stove, all the materials + liners and then the fitting.

The stove was 450 as I got it in a sale and its nothing fancy. My house is tiny so didn't need a bigger one. I think is a 4kw from Boru

We got our existing fireplace widened, new lintel, liner, vent and a freestanding stove supplied and fitted last year. Got 3-4 quotes, all were €4-5K. Dublin.

Just jumping in on this, I see most posters are referencing liners for their stove install - I take it this is a chimney liner?

We are currently looking at replacing our open fire with a stove, have 2 quotes in so far, one supplier said they'd line the chimney whereas the other has said they wouldn't as house is only 12 years old so no need to.

Anyone got any advice/insight into this and the pro/cons for lining?

We are getting a stove installed and the fitter won't install without a liner even though it's a new build. I was told regulations were the issue but not 100% on that.

Anyone recommend a reputable/approved installer in Meath? I can provide the stove.

Also quotes above for 3-4k seem utterly wild, it is usually an hour or two simple labour, and a decent size stove is usually about 1100 (or less if in the trade)

Biggest issue with gas fireplaces is generally the fireplace itself may not be capable of taking the direct heat generated by a solid fuel fire. Some thing to do with expansion joints in hearth and back insert.

I have a gas fire and in my case the whole fireplace would have to be changed, plus the cost of the stove on top.

In the end I cut a piece of plywood for the opening and siliconed the edges to stop the draught as we never used the fire anyway.

Get some one out to have a look at the fireplace and give you a estimate.

Would take someone like myself who has not done it before 10x as long the first time. That is time i do not have. But please do not try run an argument that you are paying for massive experience, it is not open heart surgery or replacing an engine in an airliner, do it once and have the inexpensive tools to hand and its piece of cake - hence why most neighbours installers are in and out in 90 minutes. Do not get me wrong, I wouldn't begrudge anyone doing well, but an hour, even call it two hours work, and maybe an hours travel, and a bit of depreciation on basic tools.... is not 800 euro of value!

I got a quote for stove and install in December for 1750.

Had two installers with shops give a view on this. One quoted with a flu all the way up, other one said it's just the adaptor at bottom as any chimney built in last 20 years will be absolutely fine (which makes sense to me).
