This looks brilliant from the trailer alone.

On FX and can be streamed on Hulu.

    Starts June 16th

Based on the bestselling novel by Thomas Perry, “The Old Man” centers on Dan Chase who absconded from the CIA decades ago and has been living off the grid since. When an assassin arrives and tries to take Chase out, the old operative learns that to ensure his future he now must reconcile his past. With Dan Chase flushed out of hiding, the FBI’s Assistant Director for Counterintelligence Harold Harper is called on to hunt him down because of his complicated past with the rogue fugitive. When Chase proves to be more difficult to apprehend than the authorities expected, a highly trained special ops contractor is sent to pursue him as well. While on the run, Chase rents a room from Zoe McDonald who draws on reserves she never knew she had in order to survive the day when she learns the truth about her new tenant.

Supposedly coming to Disney+ in international territories as a Star Original. Either way, one to check out!

    Another teaser.

I really want this to be good.

3 in and this is very good so far. Great acting/characters/staging.

Premise sounds a bit cliched to me. We’ve seen it done before. Jason Bourne, etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,349 ✭✭✭Frank Grimes

Yes, I don't think it's anything like Bourne really. I'm enjoying it so far, Jeff Bridges and John Lithgow are always great to watch.

I'm wondering whether or not there is some significance with the woman who arrived at the bus stop at the beginning of episode 3. She was Jessica Parker Kennedy, the one who plays The Flash's daughter. She appeared in a flash and then she was gone. She doesn't get a mention on IMDB for the series, and it doesn't get a mention on her own page either. Odd.

Great little thriller and Jeff Bridges kicking butt at 72!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,111 ✭✭✭✭ejmaztec

I've now decided that she's a hit woman who intended to take out Julian Carson, but as he didn't get on the bus she'll save the hit for another day. I'm only thinking this because Julian survived his encounter with Jeff Bridges, and had he not survived, there would have been no reason for her being in the episode.

    Renewed for a 2nd season

No sign of this on Disney/Star.

Is it not meant to be coming?

Just first watched Ep 1. That was great. Car fight was brutal. Loved the dogs. Jeffs gonna give Liam a run for his money.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,669 ✭✭✭✭fritzelly

He's already at the finish line waiting for Liam to finish the first lap

    The flashbacks are cringe

Enjoyable I think but not overly original or anything

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,415 ✭✭✭Dave_The_Sheep

Really enjoying this. Curious as to why the hitman was left alive, it doesn't seem to make sense on the face of it that Chase would let him live, and he's careful enough not to simply forget about him or assume Carson was dead. He'd go back to finish the job for sure.

Unless the writers simply gloss over that, which would be very disappointing.

Jeff is looking great in this after his dealing with cancer and covid over the last few years and lithgow is on great form i was not sure of the flash back story but im starting get it understand its role in the story.

Really enjoying this. They've done a great job introducing each character and giving us an insight into what's driving them. In particular, Jon Lithgow's character is quite sympathetic with his family situation - a different show would have him as a generic bad boss etc so I give them credit for rounding out the characters.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,335 ✭✭✭Heckler

3 in. The romance happened far too quickly. Would have been more involved if that traffic stop went the other way..

    However I will abide.

Great scenes this week between Lithgow and the daughter throughtout the whole episode the 3d chess being played.

He shot him in the chest, his vest saved him, and with swat a few minutes out, no time to check...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,878 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

Joel Gray does sinister so well.

The Old Man that was done nicely.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,878 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

Nicely set up now for the second season with that ending.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,669 ✭✭✭✭fritzelly

That was too damn short a season - I want more

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,991 ✭✭✭Johnny Storm

Excellent acting and directing. A couple of the plot points seemed a bit contrived but, overall, one of the best tv shows I have seen for ages.

Agree. Good tv shows are hard to come by these days and this was one of them. Great acting and directing. Roll on Season 2. I hope it has been renewed? 🤞

Decent watch with two brilliant actors. The twist was predictable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 541 ✭✭✭fran38

There's so many comparisons between Amy Brennemans character here and who she played in Heat.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,987 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

Still no sign of this on Disney?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,928 ✭✭✭✭_Kaiser_

Just finished this now. That was excellent! Really hope there'll be a season 2.

As great as Bridges is in this though (and he is!), I'm going to have to hand it to Lithgow as the standout.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,349 ✭✭✭Frank Grimes

It was posted earlier in the thread that it's been renewed.

Not on Disney here till end of September. Very strange given Disney own FX.

Personally I'm finding it hard to see the show the way everyone else seems to have....I thought the first few episodes were brilliant but the last few were awful and complete nonsense plot wise.

The actors are pretty faultless, great performances.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,625 ✭✭✭theoneeyedman

Watched this last week, was pretty good.

Well acted, good enough writing and characters, if a little convoluted of a story. There was a major plot twist late on thay was predictable enough I thought, but still..... Worth a few hours of your time surely.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,595 ✭✭✭✭siblers

Enjoyable without being anything amazing. Set pieces were very good, very good performances etc but the actual plot was fairly thin and not all that engrossing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,136 ✭✭✭✭is_that_so

Yeah I felt this way about it. Very lacklustre ending to it but loved the old boys throughout. I actually thought it was supposed to be a one-off limited series but now I see there will be a season 2.

I loved the first two episodes but Amy Brennemans character was just insufferable from when she was introduced and I found it very hard to get interested when she was on screen. The finale was a mess.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,937 ✭✭✭De Bhál

4 episodes in to this on Disney.

Pretty good so far anyway. Good casting, although Lithgow always comes across a bit hammy (to me anyway).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,415 ✭✭✭Dave_The_Sheep

Ten seconds, two to the brain, end of plotline, makes far more sense for the character. Anyway. Not a huge deal, just silly. Will move on and look forward to season two.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

I finished this and was surprised to discover that was the end of the season. I thought it was very good for the first few episodes but thought it really fell off in the last few. I don't know if Bridges' health issues were a factor in that or not? There's very little action from him towards the end.

The plot twist was pretty obvious as mentioned and it's hard to buy that Lithgow's character couldn't at least contemplate it. I'd agree with the criticism of Brenneman's character too. I thought she not only added little, but that she actually took away from Bridges' character.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 796 ✭✭✭MICKEYG

Enjoyed it but very American in the way the old American guy can handle three cars full of Morroccon police very easily an dath CIA guy was able to kills 5+ people who knew he was on a certain palace.

    Amy Brennerman seemed unnecessary too.

Whinging over, would watch the two leads all day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,937 ✭✭✭De Bhál

I'm up to date with this, Lithgow's overacting is ruining it for me, every scene. Still though, a good show

Their interactions and weird relationship are one of the most interesting parts of the show to me.

I'm three episodes in and enjoying it. It blends the personal and professional quite well.

Hmm, more of a sometimes above average to mixed bag affair. I never warmed to the Afghanistan flashbacks - dull. And that Range Rover piece in the finale, sheesh. Good casting with the younger Harold.
