Truth is Dempo.. that you're all over this thread. And if others don't agree with your analysis, you attack them.

That's fine, doesn't bother me in the slightest, but don't accuse others of not raising points of discussion, just because you consider them invalid :)

And yes, many Irish people are too precious - tents and modular housing etc are all valid means of addressing accommodation.

I've explained in great detail my concerns over this decision, so won't rehash points I've already raised but briefly it's the Irish government's decision to suspend participation that is a continuation of their Virtue signalling Policy given as we know full well there's zero controls and vetting as it is.

Besides this , there is literally no room at the Inn regardless of good intentions.

I've attacked no one but certainly will defend myself when required , and counter argue if someone clearly making outlandish claims.

I sense its my objectivity that bothers you 🤔

Again, you hold no monopoly on this or any other thread and I wasn't aware posters had a quota on their opinions.

Could you please desist on focusing on me and perhaps focus on offering a contribution.

So you want the government to restore visa free travel for people in possesion of international protection in the EU?

    Right.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,197 ✭✭✭✭Dempo1

You are aware they are actually doing this 🤔

Dempo1 please re-read either the Independent.ie or the Gov.ie link that you yourself linked to. Unless I'm reading it wrong, this is actually a positive move on behalf of our leaders in protecting our borders. Arguably, 'too little too late', but a step in the right direction nonetheless.

With all due respect, which part of this decision do you disagree with?

What are you on about? They've just removed visa-free travel to Ireland for those in posession of international protection in safe EU states. Do catch up.

“getting €230 a week and are allowed to work 20 hours a week.”

And he knows this for a fact? I thought that the single rate was €208? As for working…..Single parents are allowed earn €165 a week before losing any of their payment.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 432 ✭✭head82

You're correct on the actual payments but you're just being pedantic here. The actual principle is the same.

No they’re not! I think you misunderstand. We have suspended visa free travel along with the rest of the EU

i think that there is some confusion with people thinking that we have suspended the new EU ruling for a year. Suspended the suspension, as it were. Some of the wording yesterday was clunky and I can see how some might have interpreted it that way

but rest assured, we are in line with the EU in suspending the visa free travel

OK let's look at this a basic level and in the context of the Ukrainian refugee crisis.

The move by Government has essentially suspended their participation in essentially greater controls , visa requirements etc. This seems to me to be very odd and primarily as a result of the Ukrainian refugee crisis , they've admitted as much.

So their justification is to essentially permit free passage for those with international protection, this seems fair , but and there's a rather large but .

Firstly why would those with international protection be traveling her via Europe , I presumed and open to correction, once a refugee applies for refuge, asylum etc, they do it at the country they've landed in, really no need to travel on and pick and choose destinations.

Now in the context of The current situation, Ireland has suspended participation when others have not. We know there's practically no controls in relation to the EU Directive, that's pretty obvious, so would it be a stretch to think abuses are going to increase 🤔, not decrease, Essentially, folks heading here under the EU directive, circumventing Visa requirements etc, let's not forget the Directive supposed to be Temporary.

My concern is not particularly the suspension of greater controls , its the fact there's a free for all already happening , little or no controls, we've not a clue who's a genuine refugee or not , not even a passport required. But not withstanding all this , as I and others have said , there is NO ROOM AT THE INN ,regardless of good intentions .

That's my take on it, I don't expect people to agree, but the situation is out of control and few could realistically disagree with that .

Finally, why exactly does the Taoiseach feel the need to defend this recent decision 🤔

You’re going to have increases in fuel and heating, goods and services with interest rate increases on they way. The government have pretty much said they have done all they can. It’s not going to be a pretty picture in the next few months when tax revenue drops and interest rates rise.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,197 ✭✭✭✭Dempo1

I clearly am getting confused , so I better shut up , this decision seems to have different meanings to different people, so I'll retreat from this particular argument as it seems to have set people off .

But that's the bizarre aspect of this. The rest of the EU has not adopted this policy apart from France (and the UK but they're no longer in the EU). So for Ireland to take a stance on this is somewhat encouraging. And dare I say.. slightly rebellious.

Ya, I am being pedantic. I detest lies being flouted as fact. Makes one wonder what ever lies are being broadcast in threads like this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,551 ✭✭✭batman_oh

Sure that doesn't matter, we should continue to express virtue by letting an infinite number in as we have so much capacity in accommodation, unlimited free money, thousands of bored doctors with nothing to do and empty schools needing students

    FYI

No Media allowed in to look at facilities, in sharp contrast to the previous Photo OP'S by various politicians.

As well as being pedantic you should also get your facts right before posting

You accused me the other day of doing nothing but moaning about the RC . So far from the truth actually but dont let facts get in your way of accusing people . Nothing annoys me more than to be accused in the wrong

I'm very disappointed there was no feature on the first arrivals to the new tented village on the news headlines at 6.01, one would imagine the government would be proud of the new camp, no government minister to cut the ribbon tut-tut

The whole thing is a scam from start to finish- I felt that way too until I saw all the fighting age men swanning around in better cars than you or I, all paid for by the crucified Irish taxpayer.

First thing that must end is the automatic welfare “entitlement”- its economic suicide but would expect no less from economic dunces like Martin and Varadkar

I m glad they've suspended the 'no Visa required' to enter Ireland _ it was crazy. This should be permanent and they should deport those who took advantage and came here under false pretences. I cant understand how they ever allowed it in the first place. Dont they care about our borders? Or who comes in here?

I also believe giving social welfare and childrens allowance to Ukrainian s should be stopped. They are fleeing war and were glad of a roof over their heads. Certainly an allowance should be given but not this ! Sometimes I feel we re trying to kill our own country. We re only a small country of 5 million _ there has to be a limit.

You'd assume Mcentee and Varadkar would be doing a TikTok video or something?

On Rte radio 1 just now a head of an NGO and an Irish woman in Germany who is married to a Syrian refugee complaining about the new rules.

Your man says we are bound by EU law to provide suitable accommodation to all refugees

Your one complaining that she has to get a visa for her husband muhammad so he can come to Limerick to meet the family.

Not much talk about the **** show and the system abuse.

Roderick is a threat to social cohesion

Welfare shopping- they can stay the fcuk in Germany.

I heard some members of the public on the radio earlier giving their opinion on the tents. One foreign woman said it reminded her of WW2 and the Jews. I thought that was over the top but thinking about it, the optics of Ukrainians being bussed to a location and then herded into tents would not look good.

IIRC, I was responding to another poster, you took offence and responded as if I was responding to you. Once again, I’m being pedantic about facts being actual facts. I certainly did not accuse you of anything.
