Gonna be a Novak and Kygrios final.

Anybody reckon 5/1 is good odds on tatjana maria today? I feel like a womens semi final should never be 5/1. They are pretty unpredictable affairs

Wouldn't dare make a prediction there - she has defied the odds and taken out some substantial opponents in the previous rounds.

I might have missed something, but why is Kyrgios favorite v Nadal? Is Nadal hobbling around or something?

Yeah im of the same thinking , 5/1 seems decent for a small stake. Jury is still very much out on Jabeur in the slams too.

Information is sparse enough - try googling the issue and you'll several articles querying how rigorous the system is. Sharapova is the most famous example but that was, what 8 years ago. Who/ how many in the top 50 have been found with an issue in recent years? The sport is either remarkably clean or the alternative. Power and endurance are both required in the modern player, both areas that have attracted help from substances in other sports. Then you look at some of the women players and only speaking of their body shape and build, they must do a fierce amount of work in the gym and/or could they possibly be bulking up muscle by the likes of steroid use? Then like Glasso says, there's also a very wavy line between treatment for pain and enabling someone to perform better. I honestly don't know but at same time I don't believe in some of what we see.

Anyway, like to see the German Maria progress today but she's had a good run and it may come to an end now.

In the mens, I wouldn't rule out Norrie. He's shown great resilience to date, the crowd will be 99% behind him, that'll rattle Novak a bit and worth points at critical moments.

All logic says that Krygios should be beat Nadal in his current state.......but.............

You could make a lot of money by backing Norrie then at over 10 to 1

Personally I'd be surprised if he can trouble Djokovic

I wasn't really surprised that Sinner had the capability to really test Djokovic (and could have won) but it would surprise me if Norrie could do the same.

Djokovic has a reasonable record at Wimbledon when facing crowds rooting for the other player also!

(btw - PED drug cheating speculation is not really encouraged - that's different to the points the cyclists brought up)

Kyrgios's serve has been very strong.

Nadal was not that convincing yesterday

of course not writing him off - just explaining the odds

Nadal v Kyrgios has all the hallmarks for a bad tempered classic - hope it is😎 it's hard to predict what with Nadal's never say die attitude and Kyrgios's service game is impeccable at the moment

*Nadal never flinched when he was asked about Kyrgios in the post-match interview, the crowd went ooooooooooooohhh but he didn't respond, hard to tell how he really feels about Nick the Prick

Norrie doesn't have a prayer. Can't see him winning more than 10-12 games, let alone a set. Djokovic is the best grass court player of the last 10 years, Norrie is a bit of a journeyman

I reckon Nadal will outlast and outsmart krygios

Nadal will be using all his time wasting tricks to frustrate him

Nadal is far to smart to publicly say anything negative about him.

It's a very difficult match to call. The reality is Kyrgios hasn't played anyone good so this is really his first big test against an proven grass court player. I still think his movement and all round court play are lacking. His serve is elite but he gave up nine break points against Garin who converted only one of them. The big question mark is Nadal fitness.

Against Novak his chances are even less. I wouldn't have Kygrios ahead of Berretini and look how he got on last year. I think novak game is much more suited to big serves who lack mobility compared to guys like Sinner, Alcaraz or Nadal because his accuracy is so good.

I can't see Kyrgios winning it out, he's playing the two mentally toughest opponents in the men's game, they won't be affected that much or at all by his antics. If Nadal is as crooked as is being made out, then Kyrgios has a chance to make the final, but, I think if he made the final he'd impode once Djokovic got on top. Can't really see Norrie troubling Djokovic, would be a massive upset if he got through.

Kyrgios doesn't have to play anyone specific to lose, he's his own worst enemy - as has been seen time and time again.

Hmm.. we'll see. Norrie will have huge support, seems very fit and dogged. Djokovic can be rattled, years are moving on.

seen as none of the three left have a hope of beating Novak on grass, I can't be the only one who would like Kyrgios to beat Rafa?

A Kyrgios v Djokovic final is the pro wrestling style drama we all deserve.

Norrie krygios final I would like . Imagine the Brit crowd all cheering for Norrie and Krygios winding them up!

Tatjana Maria comes back again and takes second set. You'd have to admire her, good if same tactics all the time - strong defensively and gets a lot back. But can also attack and has a decent first serve when it goes in. All rounder.

Edited to add: obviously not all round enough! Hope Jabeur goes all the way now.

nah, Kyrgios miming an injection into his arm on every change of ends towards Djokovic would be far more entertaining 😁

That's unlikely to happen, Kyrgios and Djokovic are besties since the AO debacle 🙂 https://www.eurosport.com/tennis/australian-open/2022/nick-kyrgios-says-he-feels-quite-embarrassed-as-an-australian-over-treatment-of-djokovic-in-visa-row_sto8702745/story.shtml

Although Nadal says differently now, I suspect he’s still a bit sore about Acapulco 2019.

Glad to see Jabeur didn't throw away her easy draw. Hoping Halep can win here, think a final with Jabeur could be a great one.

I'm not saying he bested the others in slams overall. This is the problem with retrospective analysis, it loses the context and reality of the time, in favour of a broader hth look back of games they played.

What that doesn't show is for a time, before injuries, Murray had the number of all of the big 3. A broad retrospective look won't show this. Stats and figures can be twisted to suit a narrative. Before injury he became the dominant player. Nadal threw the kitchen sink at Djokovic in his prime and struggled. Murray at his peak battered Djokovic on several occasions.

Slam count doesn't tell the full story. Nadal wasn't twice as good as Bjorg

Yeah, Rybakina is 100% Russian. I wonder if we'll see from gloating from Putin if she wins it.

You have to look at the overall records.

Federer doesn't go around saying that he was better than Nadal on clay at his "peak" because he beat Nadal on clay that one or two times as he would be laughed out the door

He wouldn't want anyone else saying that either

Either would Murray for a similar argument in his case

Let's look at the record of Murray vs Djokovic

Djokovic is 5 of 7 (71%) in slam finals vs Murray.

Djokovic leads 25–11 overall in the head-to-head and 11–8 overall in finals.

Despite being "battered" (at Murray's alleged "peak") I'd say that Djokovic is happy enough with his record against Murray.

They haven't played on-court since January 2017 by the way, before Murray's injury so not sure how any statistics can be manipulated!

a noticeable number of empty seats at the games this year. My re-collection was that it use to always be a sell-out (pre-covid) ?

    Pricing?
