Sorry but several parts of your post don't make sense. The timings (arrive 16:00... Eventually at 15:50?? And whatever you're saying about lounges at the end??) Also check in issues are an airline issue not an airport one yet you didn't identify the airline?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,108 ✭✭✭✭ted1

    Corrected the time to 16;50.

I had lounge access which costs about 30 euro, arriving in the airport nearly 4 hours before your flight would generally give you 2 hours in the Lounge. I didn’t have time to get in.

the whole place was a **** show

Since I got a great steer here for my last flight 2 weeks ago I figured I'd pop in again for advice.

So the family are flying to Malaga from T2 on Sunday Evening at 1900.

Taxi is booked for 1530 so will be at the airport by 1600

Here's the question, and its a 2 parter.

    1. Do I bag drop the night before or go through bag drop the day of?
    2. With Aer Lingus you get a 10kilo carry on that you can check in for free. Will the bag drop take them too?

    Cheers.

You can't drop a bag the night before, it's only for early morning flights.

Aer Lingus now charging for 10kg carry on (certainly on routes I've flown), check in is free?

You can't bag drop the night before for an evening flight. Only for early morning flights.

This is from the DAA website so I presume it is accurate. Thats what I'm going to go off anyway.

Ah OK. That settles it so. Will try and move the taxi booking up an hour to give us some extra time. Cheers.

    Presumably arriving at 7am for a 930am T1 flight,on Saturday morning hand luggage only,fast track access,will be fine ?

Will we be let into the terminal immediately or is there likely to be a queue?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,194 ✭✭✭Jarhead_Tendler

Should be more than enough time. First queue was 90 mins 2nd queue was 30 minutes on Saturday morning terminal 2

Just on point 2, the answer is yes. We checked in 2 x 20kg, 1 x 10kg that's normally carry-on and 1 x folding buggy. This was all done with the assistance of the AL staff member beside the machines.

To anyone who pays for parking, fast track or a lounge - if you don't get to use them through flight cancellation or delay or whatever....forward the email to DAA and ask for refund and they'll normally do it.

Anyone fly out of T1 this morning around 6.30 just wondering how was it? Flying out of there next Monday morning with hand luggage and see if I get there by 3am I should be ok going through security.

Security isn't so much of a problem as far as I can see. It's the bag drop that is the challenge.I would leave a good 2 hours, if you are not checking in bags. And that should see you with a good bit of time to spare oncethrough security. If you are checking bags....I'd leave a good bit more time.

Flew to Lanzarote with Ryan Air (T1) on Sat 18th at 14:00.

Got there a little earlier than the 2.5 hrs recommended.

Bag drop took 5 mins - I've always found Aer Lingus bag drop to be way messier than Ryan Air

Walked down and joined the queue to scan boarding pass - 10 mins

Security queue - 20 mins, which included one of our bags pulled for additional screening. The staff could not have been nicer.

Went to the Marquette for a pint and got some expensive food. Daughter went to Burger King and queued for ages. We had another pint.

Walked to gate - boarding called on-time. Walked down the stairs and waited for the passengers to disembark from the incoming flight.

Apparently some kid puked while getting off the plane so we had to sit on the stairs for an hour for a clean-up crew to arrive

When we got to T2 at 2.45am, Security was closed. There was already a queue of 20-25 people waiting for it to.open. We asked a DAA employee what time it would open and she said 3am. And it opened bang on 3am.

We came through the airport (T1)this afternoon. It's absolutely filthy. Had no hassle as we only had carry on so no need for baggage collection but the amount of bags just left there was unreal. Also there was a long queue of people whose baggage had been lost.

Are fast track passes being honoured in T2 currently? We bought them a few months back before all the disruption started. And if fast track is open, how much time is being saved going through security vs the regular queues?

I went through T2 in early June, a week after peak mayhem and fast track was open with no queue at all. Regular security had longish queues, I'd say 45 mins to an hour judging by my previous wait time in May for similar length queues.

I should add that fast track wasn't being actively sold at the time, whereby it seems to be now which will most likely change things significantly.

fast track was open on Sunday but moving slower than the regular Q. So I didn’t bother using it.

Yeah I've bought it for T1 for early tomorrow morning but don't have great hopes of it making things much faster. Planning to arrive around 4am for our 6:50 flight with baggage to check-in, hoping it will be enough time.

Wednesday evening handy enough I'm hoping. was originally supposed to fly early Thursday for a Montenegro connection from Gatwick but wasn't ar$ed with the madness.

Advised time with check in bags is still 3.5 hours so fingers crossed for you. That's the really busy time in T1

Might be a silly question but can I check in all the bags under my family booking or do each of the people have to be there to check-in the bags under their names? Trying to figure out whether I should go earlier but am trying to avoid bringing young kids out earlier than needed.

We went through at 11.30am on Sunday morning, T2 with Aer lingus and it was no bother whatsoever and that was with two kids including a 5mth old baby!

Key is to check in online and then just do bag drop at the airport. That took about 15-20 mins checking in 3 bags in each person's name etc.

Then about 30 mins to get through security. Yes big long queues but well managed and you just keep moving all the time. My husband said if this was an American airport that would be norm anyway!

I did nearly have a heart attack😱 when the guy told me all the baby formula had to be tested as they were premade ones that your not meant to open until using and we had a long flight ahead but thankfully he just meant in a machine and not opened.

We were through and all at 12.30pm and couldn't believe we had time for lunch.

Now they definitely need more food places airside. The place was packed. Don't go near Burger King, queue will take forever, we just got something in food court.

All the boarding gate areas are also choc o block but sure your not there long.

Overall a way better experience than expected.

Dropped my wife off at T2 this morning at 5.46 a.m. She had Fast Pass. She rang at 5.58 a.m to say she was through security. That's very good in fairness.

Anyone know hoq long before an evening flight Aer Lingus will allow use of the bag drop kiosks?

Loads of info telling you this info if you are flying early but seems to be a mystery for eveing flights.....

Our flight was 2.45pm and we did bag drop at 11 30am if that's any help with Aer lingus.

This is exactly what I wanted to know. I've a 2.45pm flight with Aer Lingus next Wednesday too.

My wife flew out on Friday from T1 and returned yesterday through T2, she said Dublin was a model of efficiency compared to Dusseldorf, though Airlingus had cancelled the early flight, she was booked on the evening flight. She described Dusseldorf as like big room with one desk to go through and no lines, just lots of people milling about pushing
