Risky enough one, both with the court case still hanging over him, and the general behaviour associated with the case even if it's not ultimately deemed criminal.

Mane for £27.5m is an absolute steal. Bayern are masters at getting value for money. He's a work horse, a goal getter, is rarely injured and seems like a bloody decent bloke off field too.

The first signing synonymous with JK's reign to leave, Nunez at well over twice the cost has some seriously big boots to fill. I see alot of comments about LFC getting his best years, talking up his poor run of form prior to the afcon etc, alot of posturing tbh, he is a massive loss to LFC.

I love mane, i think a lot of people forget how good he was the year before salah signed, and took the attention. 6 years of solid service and no bad feeling when hes leaving, a proper legend

Good deal for all involved I think. He's 30 and wanted a change and a big contract.

I thought Mané was almost done as a LFC player, at least as a guaranteed starter, until Klopp moved him to CF in Feb. He was brilliant the last few months of the season.

It'll be interesting to see how he gets on at Bayern. Hopefully he does well. Liverpool have been good at moving on players at the right time in recent years.

Fabulous value alright, could well see him having another 3 or 4 great seasons. And has the huge benefit of being able to be rested over there every now and again in the league to keep him fit and sharp.

I'm surprised Liverpool settled for less than they were initially asking for, but I suppose with everything he's done for them he's earned the bit of leeway to make the move he wants happen.

Liverpool signed Thiago from Bayern for a relatively cheap price, I guess that was reciprocated for this deal too.

On one hand, ~30m is cheap for Mane but on the other hand, he does only have one year left on his contact and was free to talk to other clubs about moving on a bosman.

Brilliant servant for Liverpool, only time will tell if they sold at the right time or not.

I haven't seen many Liverpool fans have wildly diverse reactions to the sale of Mane. Most are philosophical about it. He's 30, in the final year of his contract, wanted out, and we've gotten a reasonable fee for him. Not a great amount, sure, but it's not pennies considering he could sign a pre-contract with Munich in January. Players get older, they move on, it happens. Salah will likely leave next season too, so be it if it comes to that if he doesn't sign an extension. Players aren't slaves and can do what they like.

Nunez has signed for twice the price as he's 8 years younger than Mane, that's a lifetime in football. He's also on comparatively modest wages. Sure he's not the finished article like Mane but not many early 20 somethings are. When Klopp bought Mane and Salah there were doubts, there are doubts again about Nunez, it's nothing new. Liverpool fans hope it's a success, rival fans hope it's a flop. Klopp wanted him badly enough so that's fine with me.

I remember people laughing and signing songs about VVD when he signed for a record fee - they haven't aged well. I see similar joy now at Mane leaving. A look at the RedCafe thread on Mane and you'd swear it was Utd he was after signing for such is the giddiness.

Forest open talks with Taiwo Awoniyi from Union Berlin after meeting his release clause of €20m.

Berlin only bought him from Liverpool for €6.5m last year, and will get 10% of any fee.

The Athletic are reporting that Brighton want £50m+ for Cucurella. A waiting game to see now if Man City pay that. They have form with paying £50m+ for full backs.

Not sure on Sterling's contract situation but this seems like a low fee.

Sterling having a Christian Vieri esque career moving around the big teams in the PL.

3 years younger than Mane and being let go for the same price seems strange.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 61,272 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

    Could this really happen.

Van Gaal tells Timber if he joins Man U doesn't play every week he won't be in the Dutch squad and would miss out on the World Cup then.

Suppose can't blame the lad not wanting to miss out on a World Cup.

Van Gaal getting his own back at Man U for sacking him?

Fair enough for a strong football nation, if you are not playing regular football you don't make the national squad, I doubt if it's player specific.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,452 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

Maybe because he hasn't been as prolific a player as Mane?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 61,272 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

    Seems similar enough really.

Their last 6 years seasons have been pretty similar in terms of league games & goals

Sterling 194 league games 85 goals

Mane 196 league games 90 goals

Cup games over the six seasons.

    Sterling 98 games 14 goals

    Mane 83 games 30 goals.

    Interesting.

Sterling to me has been a bit part player for city of late.

Do the figures change a lot if you don't go back 6 years, and instead try last 2 seasons? That might show their more recent form. 5 and 6 years ago is a long time.

    Mane 69 games 27 goals.

    Sterling 61 games 23 goals.

Sounds like he'd be worth a punt then?

It was mentioned that Madrid were interested a few months back. I think at 30-35million he'd be a good buy for them. He'd score plenty in la liga given the amount of chances they'd create for him.

Probably cheaper if going abroad maybe he wants to stay in the Premier league

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 61,272 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

Sterling also only a year older than Grealish

Paying 100m for Grealish and letting a proven consistant talent in Sterling go for 35m really doesn't look like good buisness.

Maybe Sterling just wants out and like Mane at Liverpool, City aren't going to stand in his way for the service he gave the club.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,350 ✭✭✭POKERKING

Last year of his contract, doesnt want to sign a new one(altho leaks he wanted same pay as KDB and guarantee of game-time if he was to sign one), if city dont sell him this summer he walks for free next year. I get the impression he thinks hes too good for a lot of clubs interested so leaves only chelsea, real or barcelona imo. I reckon he goes on free next year to Barcelona thats my guess.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,880 ✭✭✭ArtyM

That's a very good price for Sterling.

Good player and really puts in a shift.

I think he was England's best player by some distance at the Euros. Ran himself into the ground in every game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,758 ✭✭✭Ottoman_1000

I cant see City agreeing to that price. As someone pointed out, same price AS Mane but he's 3 years younger. It will be close to 50m I reckon.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 35,109 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

The difference might be that Mane was still very much valued by Liverpool as a player, while Sterling seems to be the latest of Pep's penchant for pushing good players out of his plans.

This would be an interesting transfer for Forest.

Awoniyi couldn't play for Liverpool because of work permit issues and was constantly loaned out. Had a brilliant season in Bundesliga after getting a permanent transfer, scoring 20 goals in all competitions.

I like the signing of Aguerd by West Ham. One of the better defenders in Ligue 1.

On Sterling, I thought he did well for City closing out the season. Didn't score as many goals as previous seasons but he linked up well and helped them in some tricky situations. He'd be a very good signing for Chelsea.

Man U linked to Antony today it does seem very strange for a club of it's size that should have a worldwide scouting network that the only players they seem to being linked with are Ajax or former Ajax players.

It's like they just got a new manager in and asked him does he know any players that might want to join as we can't find any.
