Noticing more references in the media that casually conflate Covid virus symptoms and the symptoms due to aggressive lockdowns. This is similar to how they decided for us that for Covid the death-from vs death-with was a non-question*. It's hard to see how these framings serve an "abundance of care" policy.

    * You'll get surprising answers to this question from your personal doctor friends :-)

The indo are still giving it a push but I think the general public are quite rightly far more concerned with personal financial issues than covid.

Just out of hospital for an unrelated reason and I had a throat swab while in.

Can that (not detected) test tell me whether I have ever had Covid19 in the past?

I am fully boosted and they also took about 4 blood samples the day before.

No your swab would not be able to detect if youve ever been infected.

The blood tests requested would have been related to the reason you were in hospital.

You would not have been screened for previous covid infection.

It's Eilish O'Reagan's alarm. Paul Cullen, for all his challenges to NPHET in 2020, is at it too, every so often. It's a well-oiled strategy of referring to growing case numbers, silly statistics(40% rise) and an "expert" to raise the alarm and you've a clickbait piece ready to go.

Her Twitter claims she’s on the ‘wrong but right side of the mask debate’ and signs off her article tweets with ‘Please wear a #mask’.

    Best ignore.

I wouldn’t be too sure about that to be honest. A good few people in my wifes office now saying they’re worried about going in because “the numbers” are rising again. I know what you mean but if we learnt anything during Covid it’s how many utterly stupid people there are in this country.

I see that the Chinese are struggling to keep Omicron at bay despite their 2 month lockdowns. It seems that as soon as they eased the lockdowns it started going up again. Looks like parts of Shanghai going back in to lockdown due to outbreaks as soon as they opened up. The Chinese government are really kidding themselves. I feel sorry for the poor sods.

Pat Kenny earlier in the week with the line "It hasn't gone away you know", now the Indo and the IT coordinating articles with a similar tone. I spy some sponsored COVID clickbait pieces that have less to do with COVID and .ore to do with vested interests flogging something else.

What is telling in the IT article is that it notes that cases in the community are hard to track at the moment due to testing and tracing being wound down. It almost seems like a funny joke as this is effectively an admission that the last two years people were only aware of COVID because of all the testing carried out and that not testing would create less of an issue with covid.

"It almost seems like a funny joke as this is effectively an admission that the last two years people were only aware of COVID because of all the testing carried out and that not testing would create less of an issue with covid."

It's the zero-covid eradicationist mindset where the worst fear for them is that the virus will become harmless to the extent that it is no longer tracked and nobody cares about it.

Covid hasn't and won't go away. What has gone away, much to the annoyance of the media, is people's fear of it. People have other worries now, reality is covid through advertising, click bait headlines and text lines has been a cashcow for the them, particularly the broadcast media.

Here we f****g go again. The finger wagging has begun

“"The level of infection is on the rise and you can see our change in behaviour over the last few weeks. We are longing, all of us, longing to get out and travel."

” our change in behavior “? P***s off, it’s living your life as far as I’m concerned.

There is nobody i know in the real world talking about Covid. I pop in here the odd time when i see the thread on the first page and it's very quiet, just a few posts every few days.

The Examiner, IT and RTE in almost a coordinated manner, releasing stories about COVID in Ireland this evening, along the lines of "it's being monitored still". On the same day that there is news that the US drops requirements for international travelers. It really does seem like they are trying to keep some sort of light shine on COVID solely so they can drum up some hysteria in the autumn in the typically uneventful respiratory virus season.

It's so obvious the COVID hype is driven by a few vested interests, it always has been, but I'm glad that the vast majority can see through the scam for what it is and don't give two thoughts to COVID anymore.

My sentiments exactly. There are a few posters on here who are obsessed with Covid, to the point that it's unhealthy.

Nobody, and I mean literally no one in my group of friends and family, talks about Covid anymore. I wouldn't even know it's still a topic of conversation if it's wasn't for this thread.

And I know I don't have to read the thread, but I do like to keep abreast of the meaningful events like the one Micky just posted in relation to US.

That's only because they're all over on another thread saving Ukraine, one short wolf-whistle though and they'll come racing back here chanting for lockdowns and mandatory vaccinations. We have shown ourselves to be a nation of subservient proles, we are so repressed the very idea of debate was abhorrent. Remember though, the polls tell us we are the safest/happiest/best educated/... Oh hang on, our children can't afford the rent being charged by those charitable BTR international funds ;-)

Go out and about nobody is talking about covid or the war apart from price of fuel and inflation these days.

Covid now the top story on 9pm RTE News, I better dig up my comfortable easy to breath through cloth masks for round 25 of this.

Think we’ll be ok for a while. One of the new advisory body is spending the weekend writing for his paper on how coffee will save our lives.

    Coffee >flimsy masks

Rarely bother with COVID stories anymore but this is beyond absurd. If ever there was evidence of the complete futility of Zero-COVID.

Feel sorry for the Chinese people at this point. It's a completely futile exercise that's going on there, but their leadership will never admit to being wrong, so they are basically stuck in that cycle for the foreseeable future.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,647 ✭✭✭Micky 32

Yep they were warned that Omicron can’t be contained. It’s too transmissible. Their policy isn’t sustainable.

Having escaped it for over two years, I've finally succumbed to it. The headache is like the worst hangover ever x 100. The hardest thing is trying to care for, and isolate from my OH, who was diagnosed with kidney cancer a few weeks ago.
