Honestly, I don't know , stall, prepare better, cajole Putin but the point being , why is Biden even bringing this up at this late stage. Ukraine was never getting membership of Nato or EU for that matter, those were the main issues Putin had, Zelenskyy stirred things up and here we are.

I reiterate, Putin is a pig but surely world leaders could have figured out a way to reign him in.

Zelenskyy has been lauded as a great leader, I beg to differ , he's been playing games , pitting leaders against one another , more recently he has been focusing on how this conflict will affect Europe, world hungar , I've a message for Zelenskyy, it already has and all that's going on right now is the prolonging of this mess by shipping billions in arms to Ukraine and achieving nothing essentially apart from Ukranian citizens suffering.

We are essentially right back were it started , namely the east coast of Ukraine and areas around crimera.

Zelenskyy has one major concern now, who's going to pay for this, he'll soon find out who's his real friends are .Also watch this space, Talks in Moscow, Paris, London, leaders queuing up to meet Putin, Deal done and Zelenskyy left looking like a fool, disgusting as it seems, but we've been here before, Putin will be back shaking hands and world leaders licking his Arse.

I don't think it's as what you describe here on boards. Imo.

The majority have upmost sympathy for Ukrainians and their plight. Unfortunately, it's becoming a situation in Ireland where the Irish are being forgotten about with increasing utilities, food prices and lack of housing to contend with. Interest rates set to rise, fuel prices, and the general cost of living. The middle man, taxpayer, is continuing to be squeezed. Hospital waiting lists are increasing by the hour and you need to foresee an illness two weeks ahead before getting a doctor appointment.

Meanwhile we are now paying for more people on social than ever before, yes, Ukrainian people can fill the void in hospitality, but with hotels being filled with their own people, there is little need for tourist hospitality. They don't speak good English or have children that need childcare so they cannot work. People need to wake up and see that the majority of these refugees will not work and will claim social welfare. None are spending that social welfare money or integrating in our society, all monies are being sent home, as food, bills, clothes etc are being paid for here. A massive drain on our resources.

As I said, I don't think anyone on boards doesn't feel sympathy for Ukrainians. But the pandering to them needs to stop.

Some attitude telling me to move on when I asked a question on something YOU brought up. And I normally respect your contributions.

that the situation is dawning on many out there, that this situation is probably irreversible..

that decisions now are going to be felt by citizens in their country for decades..

that we are not even close to experiencing the dreaded impacts..

Yes it is a fine line. But that's kind of the point...if they can sell the rooms in the market and people pay for them then that's the price. It is the government's policies, however, that have sent the prices soaring

Admittedly there's some outlandish stories but in the main most have been sympathetic towards Ukrainian refugees but let's be honest, there's a limit to people's tolerance levels at some of the shenanigans going on.

People up in arms about a suggestion about an extra social welfare payment during the summer and yet not a word about the vast sums being spent and thrown at this crisis. Yesterday reports of a women receiving a letter seeking repayment of €208 in disability payment to her son who died a few days previously.

Two tier welfare and refugee system

If people saw the same supports being given to everyone, including Irish citizens and if they were not witnessing the almost abandonment of this government when it comes to dealing with existing crisis, they may have more tolerance, but frankly all they see is a Government more interested in virtue signalling and not giving a toss about urgent problems at home.

I apologise but I answered your question and you kept coming back and on a topic I felt was going off topic, my initial post was infact in response to another comment about gouging, I didn't infacr bring it up.

I apologise, I was trying to avoid going off topic .

One older guy (seems to have/run and animal shelter) looking for a place to take him in with 35 Cats & 7 Dogs.

I'm sure it's not easy letting go, but who the hell would house somebody with 35 cats & 7 Dogs.

Imagine that arriving at your doorstep 😂

    Like fúck they have.

Insert horrific story about a woman getting a refund letter after losing her child, bloody Ukranians, something something.

Absolutely nothing to do with this thread. 🙄

No worries. I don't feel you fully answered it but as you say it's neither here no there! Ceasefire agreed!

Meh at the rate war fleeing refugees are taking up employment here it may encourage some of our own work shy to get the finger out.

    Every cloud and all that.

Take that up with the poster and don't be suggesting the majority are uncaring and offensive.

I should remind you about you calling me a creepy curtain twitcher who behaves strangely around Ukranian Women 🧐🧐

    I'm reminded off.......

The pot calling the kettle black 🤔

People in glass houses throwing stones 🤔

I never called you creepy, I called you innocent in fact, but a strange middle aged man approaching young girls on the street minding their own business could be construed by them as creepy behaviour.

It's quite worrying you can't grasp that concept.

Now I imagine the 22 young girls and women living with the one fella probably don't actually exist, but still the point remains.

Quite an extraordinary contradiction in your way of thinking. You appear to have distain for those on SW and yet delight in SWA and other allowances being handed out like confetti to Ukranian refugees, I'm some what baffled and confused 🤔 and even more baffling after you complained about nasty comments on this thread and then talk about work shy getting their finger out 🤔🤔

I would well believe the stories of Ukrainian people expecting things to be free because I live down the road from Citywest hotel and have heard it from staff in the leisure centre there that the same thing is happening. Men and women coming in looking for free hair cuts massages etc and telling staff no we don't have to pay were from Ukraine.

I'd love to know what they're telling these people when they bring them in and what is going on behind the scenes that we don't know or hear about.

I've seen a lot of pandering and empty support for Ukraine in Ireland since the start of the war but the longer the government openly **** its own people over to look after 1000s of strangers there's going to be serious backlash.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,350 ✭✭✭airy fairy

But of course Ukrainians will take work that the Irish won't or can't take.

The Irish aren't getting free accomodation, (yes HAP but not fully covered), they are not getting their utilities and food paid for....the majority of ukrainans are still being housed in hotels, so of course they'll go to work and don't have to pay bills that Irish do.

1000s of war fleeing refugees taking up employment in such a short space of time appears to have hit a nerve with you.

Very strange for what is a massive positive and commendable overall. Of all the things to an issue with. 🤔🤔

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 42,958 ✭✭✭✭Boggles

They have no choice but to live where they are put for the time being, what that has to do with 1000s of them gaining employment in such a short space of time is anyones guess.

Make hay while the sun shines of course. Why else? Our minimum wage, coupled with social welfare weekly, and no outgoings, win win even for 2/3 months is a whole lot if savings, especially from looking at their wages in Ukraine.

And nobody could blame them, we, as a society, our government representatives, are allowing them to do be able to do it. But it's so, so wrong that this is perfectly legal for them to do it.

It's fine. I know the feeling so no need for apologies!

    Yup,

I wouldn’t have believed it myself…until I witnessed a gang of them walking into a gym I use connected to where they were staying just expecting to waltz in and use the gym facilities free gratis and then getting all ignorant with the girl who explained they could be members but they have to pay the full fee like everyone else…even though the gym is supposedly full, a waiting list in operation as it’s one of the best facilities of its kind in the country but no, they can skip the list, immediate membership….they just expected it for nothing!!! :o

370 euros for 6 months but.. “ no you don’t understand, we are from Ukraine, it be free “ I could have collapsed… asked for 2 euros a day it works out as, but roaring at staff when it was requested… fair fûcks she gave it back to em.

Bit of trouble brewing over the €120000 per month hotel bill in mayo https://www.breakingnews.ie/ireland/mayo-council-at-odds-with-government-over-cost-of-housing-ukraine-refugees-1318699.html

Sweet Jesus, this is the Cheeky charity who took it upon themselves to bring in unaccompanied children without informing anyone 🤔, noticed there's a change in Director/Secretary at this charity.

Lots of very unflattering reporting today about refugee accommodation, the Fluffy narrative changing and Irish media starting to wake up.

That story makes me laugh! Was that the crowd who decided of their own bat to bring in 90 refugess without clearing or with anyone? Anyways, Whether it was or wasnt, if the charity brought them in and sorted their accommodation then maybe they should pay for it and not expect the taxpayer to! Maybe boggles is from mayo? Sounds to be right up his or her alley!

I did say when this started that the Ukrainians absolutely would not tolerate the way we have treated other refugees in this country. I got a bit of stick for saying that but these don’t come from a third world country and so will have higher standards.

We invited them here so are responsible for them. Locking them in hotels for extended periods is not acceptable. If they have no money, organising haircuts and gym facilities are basics that they should get.

If the Irish were in their shoes can you imagine the carnage we would be causing.

Just saw that article myself, and noticed the one below it.

What's the craic with this though. Flying in injured soldiers? I see it's part of a directive but why would they bring them so far for urgent treatment?

I also liked the last few lines. Like our service is top notch 😂
